sometimes I feel 'old'

I lurked awhile but finally signed up in Feb. 2004.

Had been on RSB and a little on alt.sport.billiard (?) back in the late 1990's.

I know I 'met' a few people on the forums and then got to meet:
Lou, Jimbo, Fred (Cornerman), Barry Szamboti and a couple others at the 2000 US Open straight pool at the Rosemont Ballroom (?) in NYC.

So I amay not be an oldtimer - but a lot of my friends are!!

Mark Griffin

(I also re-met Johnny Ervolino, met Kevin Trudeau (carrying Mike S. cue stick, saw John Schmidt - and a bunch of others. That was a good event - even though the tables were easy and the high runs were everywhere.)

Eric...Well Sherm remembers being on RSB in the early 90's too. Shepard (from Argonne Labs) turned me on to it (I knew him from Chicago). He was one of the most regular posters there.

Gayle from MD contacted me, through CCB, in 1995, and invited me to her home to give her and her husband lessons. I ended up staying a week, and giving 70+ hours of lessons to a whole bunch of her friends.

I came here in 2000...

OK, now you are throwing a curveball. If I'm correct, AZB and CCB wasn't around 20 years ago! Come to think of it, I don't think RSB was either.

Have you been on CCB that long? I didn't get there til 98 or 99.

I only recall Sherm and Bob Jewitt from RSB and the pool newsgroup that preceeded it. That had to be circa 93-95?

I can't even recall the user name I even had back then but it might have been CueKing. I may still have an issue of Table 1 stuck in a box somewhere. There were several posters from RSB who had articles published in it. I wouldn't be surprised if more than Bob and I made the trip to AZ....

I remember drivermake, breakup and Tom Ferry too....loved the posts all of those guys made....as well as several others that are no longer here..I lurked here for at least a year before becoming a member.

I prefer to remain in the shadows......somehow, it's easier that way!!

Gary

Gary,

After all these years, I've kept the last private message Tom "Old Has Been" Ferry sent to me. Never knew what a great player he was till he passed on. Thanks for remembering him.

I dug thru my old Agent newsreader and came up with this from back in 1997. I think I had a hard drive crash at one point and lost everything, so nothing earlier.

I started posting to Azbilliards some time in 1999 - or 2000 - ???. Prior to that, I had been on RSB/ASP for quite some time. I also remember playpool.com - they had a chat room which at the time was pretty cool. CCB was also cool - they would do themselves a favor over there if they just nuked the NPR Forum. JMO.

I remember that in March of 2003, Mike got new forum software and was unable to transfer the old posts from the site (prior to 2003) so everything was lost with the click of a button, and we all had to re-register.

Thinking about it, it really doesn't seem like that much time has passed This place has had its ups and downs, but most of us treat each other like family. I've made a lot of friends through this forum, and reconnected with people I hadn't seen or heard from in ages.

There are many other forums out there, but in the world of pool, this site and this forum have no equal. I am glad to have been a part of it since the early days - and for merely participating - I have been blessed immeasurably. Thank you Mike Howerton for all that you have done and continue to do for the world of pool - without you none of us and none of this great info would be here.

I miss breakup and your ongoing, good-natured feud!

Hey Watchez...thanks for reminding me again of my advancing years.

I guess I will grudgingly admit to "old school" status; but ONLY if sjm is admitted as well ("youngest old schooler" is in his avatar).

Anyone who has not crossed swords with drivermaker or can't remember IMMSHARMA (his secret aiming system reminds me a great deal of all of the CTE brouhaha) is probably NOT an old-schooler.

P.S. - anyone who does not remember breakup or the breakup/Betmore feud is NOT old school.

I'm not an old schooler on here. I'm just a very prolific newbie, starting out in 2004. I had been using the resources of AZ Billiards to promote tournaments for several years, before I discovered the forums. Once I got on here, I've never quit posting for more than days at a time. This is my "home room" now!

In the pool world in general I am definitely an old schooler, dating back to the hey day of players like Eddie Taylor, Ed Kelly, Ronnie Allen, Boston Shorty, Lassiter, Cornbread Red and even Harold Worst. I saw 'em all and yes they could play a little too. It was a great time to be a kid in the pool world.

haha, fυck yeah forte free agent! I remember using that. While everyone else was on RSB, I was on rec.games.video.arcade talking about virtua fighter, street fighter, etc. Or trying to get porn from binary groups where you'd be dying for one missing part out of a grainy old 30 meg video. You couldn't watch until someone reposted that damn part.

I didn't get into pool until a few years later. Still, I've been on about 4 years, enough time to start to see patterns.

starting writing books,
took another look.
posted again,
sitting in my den,

I write unrestricted,

With this site being around now for quite the time and me being gone for a period of time, it appears to me that lately there has been more of an influx of new members actively posting than in the recent years. I used to read posts and threads and know most people involved. Now I don't know many of them.

Makes me think, who are the Old Schoolers of AZ -

Trigger, Blackjack, Cuaba, Fast N Loose, Fatboy (well only Fatboy1 not Fatboy2), Hangemhigh, JAM, JB Cases, JoeyA, Manwon, Ribdoner, Rossaroni, Williebetmore, Spidey, Houmatroy, Mikeyfrost, lfigueroa, Terry Ardeno, Corvette, JCIN, Jay Helfert, Saw, ME....I am sure there are a slew more but those are off the top of my head.

I wish that the owner of this site (Mr. Howerton) did not not erase the history. It should have shown who the real long standing posters are.
