Anyone Have an Idea Who She is?

That's what I was thinking (that Al would be really old, not that you're kinda old now).

Maybe you know my friend from Detroit. His name is Augie "Gus" Giordano. He'll be turning 70 years old soon but still plays strong. Last time I played him, a couple of weeks ago, he clobbered me in One-Pocket. It was a humbling experience. I'm sure he hasn't been in Detroit for possibly 40 years.

(didn't mean to hijack the thread but since we have confirmed the gal pictured is Palmer, I figured no one would mind)

I didn't/don't (that I can remember) know Gus. I lived in Ann Arbor (sorta going to school) in the early 70s and spent a lot of time in Detroit, some at the Capital Cue Club/The Rack, some at Cushion and Cue in Oak Park (where I first met Palmer Byrd).

What I remember from The Rack is that Cornbread Red was the most fearless and aggressive person I had ever met, which still holds true today.

Palmer Byrd, on the other hand, was soft spoken sweet and a nice friendly person. I'm glad to hear she's well.

Palmer is definately doing well she plays pool in the leagues here in CT. Her game is not what it use to be but she still is a strong competitor and a very nice person.

Palmer Byrd's Palmer...

I heard back from Palmer and here is what she wrote, which includes info about what's written in the buttsleeve of her palmer cue:

"...I believe that I was using my National cue stick, so it was early in my career....Yes, I still have my Palmer. In the buttsleeve window it says "The Byrd." --PB."

Mystery solved, Kevin .

I'd like to own the Palmer Palmer (for my typical week or two).

Thanks

Palmer Byrd...

is a great friend of mine too. Her name is Vallaincourt now; she lives outside Hartford, CT. Her pal Madelyn Whitlow was married to Babyface for 8 years; yes, he was quite a bit older than she was. GF

OMG Mully. She is old enough to be your mother. :)

Oh my, look at those hips and thighs. Yum. I would spread her on a cracker.
MULLY

True, but back then I don't think I would have known what to do with her. You may have had that same problem.

Not in that photo she's not. What an incredibly sexy woman she is.

I for sure knew what to do with her, but she wouldn't let me (smart girl that she was).

National Chalk

It's not a Palmer cue.

It's not a Viking cue.

The following information comes directly from Palmer Byrd via a good friend of mine - Palmer said the cue in the photo is a National. She said National Chalk made cues for a while & it was given to her as a gift.

She loved the photo - she has never seen it before.

National Chalk was Chicago based and had Dick Helmstetter and Craig Petersen working there in those days, getting their start in cuemaking. Many of the people at National also worked for Herman Rambow first. Burton Spain spent time around both places too.

Palmer was the Ms. America of the pool world back then. Unapproachable for most of us pool room bums. Out of our league in other words .
The top players back then were a very young Jeanie, Geraldine Titcomb and Gloria Walker. Dorothy Wise was the reigning champ though, until Jeanie took over. I think Gail Howey was Pat's wife. He was a very strong player. Marcia Girolamo was another cutie pie!
