Mosconi Cup 2011!!!!!

I'm an American and want our team to win. With thats said: Team Europe is just flat out better. Coupled with the "***** like" bickering regarding Earl and now Deschaine.......the USA really doesn't have a prayer.

Personally I would love to see Putnam's punks boycott the Mosconi cup because of Earl.

This team is the property of the USA/fans. This isn't the personal possesion of Johnny Archer or anyone else. They need to stop acting like it is and go play f#%^&*@ pool.

Lastly: Shane needs to distance himself from this bullshit. Its not his style and I would hope he doesn't start getting caught up in this crap.

Very well said . IMHO

As for Archer and company not playing if Earl is on the team, let's just wait and see on that.

...stupid rich athletes ...

Nice...from the 'leader' of the newest proposed pro-player organization...4th grade antics.

Lookin' good, professional pool! You will note sarcasm.

How bout you zip the lip and make the best of it for the group? We'd eat you, if we were ants.

Actually I love the Mosconi cup concept and would love to get behind it with my heart and my wallet but I just can't as long as all of the player politics are involved.

In addition I think they should hold voting for the people's choice at the actual points tournament venues. Those are the people who are supporting the players by attending the events so they should be the ones to decide. A player should not be able to come to the forum and solicit people to go online and vote for them. Online voting means Pocketpoints everywhere can cast votes.

First Matchroom bends to the will of JA and crew, and now with that precedent set they are starting to want to dictate on every player that might get on the team because they "just don't like him". Thats what you get when you start to give people an inch like this and allow them to dictate terms.

What I want to see is the top 3 on the team, Mike, SVB,and Cory, 3 fairly young players with alot of heart. Make Earl the non-playing captain of the team and let him pick the last two players. I would love to see Earl captain the team, IMO his pride in his country and put into that type of position he would be a very strong positive force for the American team and from a non-playing position the fans cannot try to shark him.

I haven't watched a lot of Dechaine matches--and he's a great shot--but he doesn't seem like Mosconi team material to me. Forming a team of five guys that get along and support each other is more important than the most talented team. Hasn't Ryder Cup taught us that yet? It sure has started to reflect it in the Mosconi Cup.

I like Van Boening, Deuel, Hatch, Morris, and Moore. Or throw in someone like Shuff or Frost.

The Mosconi Cup is 9-ball race to 5. Any top 20 pro can have a good week and become MVP. The crowd is what makes this event geat. Johnnyt

 Not a bad idea..........

... The top three get in plus two wild card picks. The next points event is TS in August. ...
According to the AZB info at http://azbilliards.com/racetomosconi.php the remaining events for US ranking are:

World 9 Ball Championship 25 June – 2 July
Turning Stone Summer 11-14 August
Beijing Open 15-28 August
The US Open 9-Ball Championship 16-22 October

Right now Dechaine has a good lead and three players would have to pass him to eliminate him from automatic selection.

And I see on the WPA calendar that the Mosconi Cup is scheduled for December 8-11, and presumably at the MGM in Las Vegas.

Do you think that the crowd will be as into it as much as the europe crowd was last year?? WIll there be a stream with Justin or just a pirated feed from Sky Sports???

What does everybody think?? What would you like to see?? Please keep Earl out of this topic.... We all know he aint playing :o

no where is like York Hall in east London, never will the American version of the M-cup have a venue like that or the vibe that crowd has. Not even close those guys give us the 5-out and the pop in terms of venue and crowd support. Believe me I'm pulling for the American team and will be there doing what ever I can to ensure that we win, but our live audience just aint into it like they are there, the Brits drink us under the table too. they are cool and I respect them. I think their mannerism comes from football(soccer) and carries over into pool. Snooker in the UK is much like pool is here in America. The M-cup is wild in the UK. Were much more tame. BUT OUR BOYS WILL SHOOT THEIR NUTS OFF THIS YEAR!!!!! RALF, MIKA, BOYES, DARREN AND WHO EVER ELSE WATCH OUT WERE COMMING TO WIN-so grab your little weenies and take cover. :P

all in good sport and fun,

Fatboy

America has some very cool places they could put on an event. Heard that once a tournament was held in Grand Central Station in New York even, that is a hell of an event location. The problem in America is not that there are not some cool spots to run an event, it is more that they just... don't. Instead they put it into a casino convention center.

Hell, set the thing up in the outdoor area in front of Caesars Palace, make the event free to watch for anyone on the strip who wants to check it out. You would fill the stands, people would be having a blast out there at night with the Vegas lights all around, a loud speaker with the commentators introducing the players, get hot women dressed in roman Toga's walking the players down a roman looking pathway like roman warriors coming to their triumph celebration, THAT would be the way to do it in vegas, instead it will be in the back of a casino in some bland convention space. That is the fault of Matchroom not having the initiative and ingenuity to do it right. It sucks that the people in charge have no clue or simply don't want to put in the effort.

An outdoor venue wouldn't cut it at night and during the day the lighting would suck.

Let's see...Mid December in Las Vegas and the outdoor temperature can be freezing or below with cold winds howling across the desert. What a perfect environment for pool!

You should do your homework before you say Matchroom lacks initiative. They are far and away the most innovative promoters of professional pool. They are even considering building a York Hall type venue inside the MGM Grand this year to help create the atmosphere. And you can bet that plenty of those raucous Brits will make the trip to Vegas in December so American fans better be ready to compete in the noise and enthusiasm department.

I believe that is an out of date article. The two international events were dropped from being Mosconi points events and were replaced by two Seminole events (the one at Snookers and the Miz event).

You are right also. We don't need champions such as Earl who can hold up to the pressure. We need polite people who know how to dog it.
His record says it all

I want Earl to make it and play, its the one that complain about him I can care less about.

.......

There is no way in hell Matchroom will bend to the will of the players. If they can defend putting Earl in, they will. They do whats good for TV, period.

As I said in another post:
I just love the way the American Mosconi team is bonding before the big show in Vegas in December!

"I dont want to come out and play if Earl plays"

"Mike is such a bully"

Go Europe

Matchroom does a great job with the MC here in Vegas. They are still selling pool in Vegas in though. You could do it in the middle of Las Vegas Boulevard and it wouldnt make a difference. I suspect they do it in Vegas because its the easiest place to get some British fans to come to.

They basically spend a shit ton of money to set up bleachers, lighting and a pool table in a big empty room at the MGM. I've been to two of them and while it's a cool deal I usually only go once or twice as to me the whole affair, while a great spectacle and unique in pool is not really my thing.

I honestly do not know why they even do it in the U.S. anymore. If I was them I wouldn't. They do their best to make the atmosphere as intense as the European venues but it just never seems to match up. The players are going to go where the money is so they dont care where its at.

As for the political stuff on the US team I think some people need to spend more time playing pool and less time talking about what they are gonna do.

Lets just wait and see who gets in, Matchroom confirm the top three will be in the team (whoever they are) and the other two picks are theirs.

As to the real question asked, there is no way the US Fans will ever get behind the team the same way the European Fans do and there is no place like York Hall in Bethnal Green. Could the US get closer to that, again in my opinion, yes closer maybe, but not in Vegas. Perhaps in New York, Philly, Chicago, Atlanta or some other big City on the East Coast.

It was great being there last December, the European Fans were fantastic
and unless you were there you will never really appreciate just how intimidating a venue it is. There were times betweens racks and matches when the whole place was vibrating, literally, a soccer match would be the only comparrison. But those same Euro Fans making all that noise, were also some of the nicest people. Outside we met and talked with many of them and all of them were great it was a real pleasure to meet them all.

Sarcasm noted.

I have to say, I've lost a bit of respect for JA recently. His whining and posturing reeks of juvenile jealousy.

He played Earl a couple months back in that exhibition match and got spanked pretty easily...He didn't mind the free paycheck then, so I don't see why Earl's possible MC participation would upset him?

FWIW, Earl has a better win/loss record in the Mosconi Cup than Johnny.
