Who's the best TV pool commentator

Sid Waddell and Jerry Forsythe

In addition to my vote for Jim Rempe, I have to agree with JAM -- the combination of Sid Waddell and Jerry Forsythe just has that magic chemistry that flows through to anyone listening. They play against each other well. And it seems Jerry's straight-laced nature seems to really pull the hilarious one-liners out of Sid!

[no "e" on Forsyth, though] ;)

I alwayed like to listen to Buddy Hall call a match, he would call the correct shot everytime before the shooter ever got to the shot, and best of all he explained why the shooter was playing the shot in a certain way, the guy's these days just talk about what a great tournament their having, that is when you get lucky and see a Televised Men's Pro match.

Some have some wisdom to share, There's something to be learned from the old timers. They have seen it all. Kim Davenport, Billy Incardonna, Danny DiLiberto?
There must be more to choose from? That's my top three though.

I like Nick Varner and Jim Wyche. Another good one is the fellow who did commentary for Earl and Effren`s race to 120 in China years ago. I cannot think of his name but I have always liked his softspoken style and insightful comments. I am sure someone out there will know who I am talking about.
That guys name is..ahh tell you in my next post. Gotta check my archives. One of my favorite videos anyway.

thought of another great commentator: Robert Byrne!

A buddy of mine had a box of old accu-stats vhs tapes, and the 3 cushion ones were very entertaining to watch, not only for the play but the great commentary by Byrne! He used to have a partner with an English accent who's name escapes me right now, but those two were a great duo!

Bill "Weenie Beenie" Staton is my all-time favorite...

Then in no particular order:

Grady
Billy I
Buddy
Varner

Honorable Mention:

Freddy "The Beard"

I was thinking the same thing. He knows so much about the game. I'm surprised no one mentioned him sooner.

IMO Billy Incardona is the best.

I always enjoy Buddy Halls work. Jay Helfert is a real pro at commentary and understands how to keep things moving and interesting. Sarah Rousey is someone I always try to get in the booth because she is as funny as she is knowledgeable. Mika has sat in a few times with TAR and I really enjoyed his take on things. Thorsten is one who you dont hear much from but is one of my favorites. Jerry Forsythe is another professional that does all the little things you dont even notice until the next guy doesn't do them.

Commentary is hard to do well and really good commentary can take a good match and make it great.

My dream is to one day get Alex and Earl to commentate on a match between Shane and Bustamante. Just imagine the possibilities.....
