never a dull moment around hereMaybe the softer copper nail did not last , so upgraded to a steel one.
It probably is holding the tenon repair into the shaft as well.

Yeah I've seen a bunch of those around. I was once told that there was a guy who worked for one of the pool table service companies who did this when the ferrule was loose. I guess the nail also causes the tenon to expand slightly and make a loose ferrule tighter also.
an older plain jane joss. no butt plate. bad wrap. great looking curly maple! the ferrule was some concoction of apparently silicone caulking built up to the shape of a ferrule with a tip glued on top- no nails!. gave $29 for the cue then $100 for rewrap, new ferrule/tip and a great job on a new buttpiece/bumper. shuddered a bit when i first saw the shape the cue was in but it does look good now. a local guy here in the Hickory area, tim monk,did himself proud on it.
