New Acquisition - Alex Alpert

Just wanted to show off a new cue that I got from Alex Alpert...

After seeing the cue that he created here, I contacted Alex and said, "Make me a bumperless hoppe with a steel joint, everything else is up to you."

It only took about 6 months for him to complete and there were great pictures and communication spread throughout this process. Below you will find what Alex came up with no input from me.

Keep in mind that this is Alex's 6th cue. I don't know how he was able to come up with some of this stuff on his own, but I'm highly impressed. He takes constructive ideas to heart and is willing to take any input from the customer to better the cue for that individual. I can only say that in my case as that is exactly what he has done.

The rings, buttsleeve (has kind of an abstract window/double oval thing going on), and ivory plug were all his doing, as was a nice surprise - the bridged veneers. And while it may look great in pictures (and in person), the true test is when you actually put it to work.

I haven't played but probably 6x in the past year, and over the weekend was able to get away and play in a 9b tournament, which much to my surprise, I actually did fairly well in.

I have typically played with either a Tucker or a Searing for the past ... well, several years, and was pleasantly surprised when I started hitting them around the table. The cue has a nice firm, solid hit to it, with a lot of feedback throughout. It's a bit noisy, if you will, but I'm used to that as I've been a steel joint/ivory ferrule/bumperless bigot for quite a while. *disclaimer - in now way am I comparing this cue to a Lord Searing or a Master Tucker.. That would be sacrilege...

Surmise to say, Mikey likes it. Good cue, great guy to deal with. He won't leave you in the dark and really cares about getting you what he promised. Yes, I know my pics suck.

Wow I've not heard of the cue maker but that's an outstanding cue..

Alpert Cue

That veneer work is very nice.

Congratulations !!

Any information on the cue maker you can share?

I don't know of another maker who's first cues were of this quality. Here is cue #4.

Holy crap!

I love blue veneers and that cue blows me away.

His sixth cue?!

Wow.

I very much like the figure-ground reversal on the butt-sleeve "propellers". Nice twist on an otherwise-ubiquitous design element.

looks great ross....alex makes a killer looking cue...i have talked to alex several times about making a cue for me was very nice and willing to give me all the info i needed...

Uh, yea... That's pretty hot. Awesome design. I really enjoy looking at fresh designs and not the same old tired cookie cutter stuff.

Thanks for sharing,
Chris

That kind of work in his sixth cue?!?! That is almost approaching Big Daddy territory.

Love the veneer work and bridged points.

Yup, it's a great cue ESPECIALLY considering the experience of the cuemaker.

Now that I have my camera charged, I can post slightly better pics. Note those are gray paper veneers, not glue lines... :D

Have gotten a couple of PM's asking for contact info, but in the link, that is him - posting as "Trepla", but you can also email him at alex@gilbertandbecker.com

and I think Jamie still has that one for sale as well...

Talk about coming out as a Cue maker with a bang! IMHO, this is unreal! Less than ten cues and he is producing work like this! Beautiful veneer work. What's not to like about the veneer colors. I like his style.

This really is a great looking cue! Classic and modern all in one. I also love how he took elements of the ring design and point inlays into the butt sleeve. Nice continuity of design.

Congrats on your new cue.

I have to comment again after those closeups.

Stunning work for an experienced cue maker....for the sixth cue....absolutely amazing.

Imagine....he will only get better.....it boggles the mind.

Thanks for the compliments, there is definitely quite a bang for the buck over that of other "sensations".

If/when Alex starts making more, I'm certain the wait list will grow, as will the price.

Is Alex actually Tony Zinzola?

I'm not knocking your cue or your thread Ross so please do not think that. But..... Ummmmmm........

That cue looks exactly like everything Zinzola has ever built right down to the extra long points and the engraving on the bumperless butt.

Also, the fact that Alex lists his location as the neighboring town to Tony makes me scratch my head. Lol
