The crowd was a little louder Tuesday night and the refs had to work harder at keeping them quiet for the shot. Sadly, the bar ran out of Guinness. The alternative here seems to be Carling's.
Barry Hearn (the head of Matchroom Sport which produces the event) attended tonight and visited the teams in the practice rooms. The ratings on Monday were very solid -- I think the competition was soccer/football -- and better than in previous MCs. Maybe the move to mid-week helped after all.
While it was disappointing that the evening (early morning?) ended in a 5-5 tie, that's not such a bad result at the half-way point.
As far as the betting odds, they have very little to nothing to do with the actual abilities of the contestants. The goal of setting odds is to get equal money backing each side. That way the bookie is guaranteed to win regardless of the outcome.
Angel Levine, one of pool's greatest fans, was in the audience, greatly improving its appearance. On a related point, it was Michaela Tabb's birthday and we all sang Happy Birthday to her.
The same two fans who sat behind me two years ago were behind me again Tuesday. Like many in the audience, they appear to be in their 20s in contrast to US pool audiences which tend to be grayer. There are lots of people from the Continent present.
The installers for Diamond came down from Finland. It was a long trip partly by ferries and partly through a couple of feet of snow.
Sky Sports is doing the TV part of the production. At one point they had a crew of 30 or so finishing up the set. I don't know if you can see the carpet under the table but it's blue with gold stars in a circle -- the European Union symbol. The stars were cut out by hand and glued into holes cut in the carpet. The logos and stars for PartyPoker.com on the arena walls were not just stuck on. They are specially made pieces that stand out from the walls on posts to get a 3-D effect.
I hear there is a high roller who is betting over $100k per night. Or maybe that's euros.
The entire crew, including commentators and such was fed a proper English dinner about 5PM. I settled for lamb, carrots, potatoes, cabbage and gravy at a cafe across the street for about $9. With tea. If you don't demand otherwise, tea here is served with milk in it. You get used to it after a while.
I got by the British Museum for a few hours in the afternoon. Admission is free as are the guided tours. Donations are gratefully accepted. The Circle Line (underground, tube) which is the line at Bethnal Green (York Hall) goes direct to the BM (Holborn station).
There's a 30-second shot clock (60 seconds just after the break shot). I don't know how the players can shoot with the 5-second warning beeps sounding. Some of them wait until almost the end of the beeps to shoot. No one has run out of time yet.

Hey Bob I think its funny that you think its strange that they put milk in their tea. My grandmother was from Poland so growing up we always put milk in our tea. Its like coffeee to them over there. Not busting your chops but I just found it to be funny.

From those stats its right on the monney that they both played tough shits off of each other. Liars figure but figures don't lie. I don't even see how you can argue with these stats in place
It's nice to see the American team NOT trying to tell thier partners how he wants him to shoot and where to leave the CB every shot. These guys all know what there doing and how to get position. If their partner doesn't ask them how to play the shot he should be silent. Johnny A is a great player and the American team wouldn't be tied w/o him but he needs to give the "shoot it my way" a rest. Telling the player how to shoot his shots just puts more pressure on him to shoot someone elses way.
If you've ever sat with a few top pros watching a match you would hear more than one way to make most shots and get the same outcome. JMO. Johnnyt

Yeah, but did he ever steer his partner wrong? I saw him tell Shane to shoot a carom into a combo with the opposite English Shane wanted...Shane was dubious, but went ahead and did it, getting perfect position through all kinds of traffic; had he shot it with running English like he wanted, he'd have been stuck for sure. JA may be giving alot of advice to his partners, but it's good advice...he's got a couple of decades' experience on everybody.
Is there a rule on how many matches a player can compete in per day? If not, JA should play every match...

No argument from me. It was the way I seen the match go down. It would seem you guys are big Shuff fans and thats fine. We will see how things shake out at the end of the tourney. What I have seen from him so far is he is struggling and making a lot of bad decisions. Maybe its the pressure. This a great Cup so far! And I fully expect it to go down to the wire. IMO the teams are very evenly matched. It will all come down to who handles the pressure the best on the final day.
P.S. Johnny was a great choice, he is like having a playing captain on the team. Plus, he plays great under pressure!

This is an excellent point. TMI is the Internet expression for too much information and that can hamper the rhythm of a player in a hurry and can negatively impact a person's game.
The only time that I would disagree with your thought on this is that if you are playing pool with someone who is opposite handed and there is a choice to which side of the ball you can play to. If one of the players forgets that the other player is opposite-handed and plays a shot to their partner's weak side, I wouldn't hesitate to remind them in the future.
Prior to playing in the Mosconi Cup, the players should be practicing playing with both opposite-handed partners and same handed partners, just to get them used to thinking both ways.
