Playing better while medicated

Maybe they needed to dump a load.

I know my game goes to hill when I'm constipated...but you don't really need any more information than that.

I've got my "recommendation" letter and use it. Do I know if it helps my game, of course not. Do I think it does, you betcha! And if it doesn't, I'm to "medicated" to worry about it.

It doesn’t work for everyone I’m sure. From the late 1950’s to the late 1970’s I did enough 8 balls to powder a ski slope. I also did a good amount of black beauties. They both worked for me at the time but I’m paying for it health wise now in my 60’s and 70’s. Johnnyt

I can't believe that no one has said yet that...............................

(play better medicated)

I know some alcoholics that can't shoot worth a crap until having a few drinks.
Does that mean that alcohol makes them better players? Absolutely not.
It means they can't stop shaking until they have a drink to calm the nerves.
I suppose the next question will be "Will steroids give me a better break?"
Whatever you need to do to be mentally focused and balanced -- that's what wins games.

Do any of you find you play better while medicated? I've seen a lot of players not playing so well make a trip to the bathroom after not playing so well and come out world beaters.

I once spoke to a great player named Tommy Baker who told me he loved to bet it up with guys on speed. He said they will barrage you with offense if you let them, but as soon as you shoot back and put heat on them, they get twice as nervous and crumble. I think any kind of drugs in a long gambling match is a bad idea. I won't mention any names here but I have seen players play for 3 days before and the guy jacked up on drugs was so busy finding his mixture he started dogging it and lost a ton of someone elses money:-).

Marijuana cannot be legally prescribed anywhere in the US. It is a common misunderstanding that it can be legally prescribed.

In states that allow "medical marijuana" they utilize a doctor's recommendation, not a prescription. The vast majority of doctors willing to do this are generally one or two steps from losing their license already and are simply bottom feeding for income.

.

Doc, you are mis-informed. Certainly as far as Texas law goes. I know for a fact that when my son-in-law was going through chemotherapy about 13 years ago, that his cancer doctor PRESCRIBED marijuana to him in pill form. He picked up his scripts twice, once at a Kroger (food store) pharmacy and again at a Walgreen's. Pill form/tobacco, it doesn't matter, it's still cannabis (and, if I remember correctly, the word "Cannabis" was on the prescription label).

I don't call it bottom feeding when a doctor tries to alleviate one's suffering from the effects of chemotherapy. Others may see it differently though.

A pastrami sandwich and black cherry soda from Katz's deli gets me straightened out right quick. Days when I am real off, I top myself with steak fries.

It's the truth. Whether or not you like it has little to do with it.

If you want to call me ignorant you will find yourself very unprepared.

Backing up your claims should be pretty elementary for someone who went to medical school. Waiting for your reply since i'm "very unprepared"...lol :p

I don't use any type of drugs or even smoke for that matter, but last month I was prescribed Prednisone because of an allergic reaction (hives) to something I ate at PF Changs and that stuff had me playing like a damn robot. I had super focus and never got tired. I think it has an effect similar to Adderall... I got about 3 hours of sleep every night for 2 weeks. I played great pool but hated the way it made me feel. I was feverish and jittery all the time. Prednisone is some strong stuff!

do i know you from speepleton's/meadowthorpe shopping center? LOL!

I find that I play more consistently and deliver a better cueing action after smoking bath salts along with six or so shots of Skol brand vodka with an accompanying bottle of Night Train Express to nurse in order to maintain my higher level of plateau. After this mixture, I'll give the world the 8...
may have been danny beale's all star billiards on winchester road.

Did some meds for 7 days.............

Do any of you find you play better while medicated? I've seen a lot of players not playing so well make a trip to the bathroom after not playing so well and come out world beaters.

I hurt my back real bad about a week ago. Right in the spot that I broke it back in 1999.

After 2 days of ice I finally went to the ER bent over like I was 115 years old.

They gave me about 10 valium and 10 Oxys. They wanted to give me a shot but I drove there myself.

I'm playing in a special tourny that I play in every year and needed to practice. So I've been playing some, not much though, on these meds.

The valiums were OK. They are a muscle relaxer But the oxys were terrible to play on, not to mention my social life skills were crap.

I can see after these few days why a player would want to take these. They are kind of dead to any outside interference that there is. The bar I play in at home was just crazy with drunk players. Hardly even bothered me.

I might need to take some kind of meds to play in the near future. But I will tell you it deffinitely will not be Oxys or vicedin.

If someone is taking these to play they are sacrificing their life to make a few balls. Huge price to pay for a little success.

I'm good to go now. I just have pain. Don't feel crippled anymore.

My advice to any young players out there that think they will get an edge with some meds think twice. It can turn you into an almost instant loser in life.

Could even kill you.

Playing pool, music, chess, giving a speech requires free unaltered memory banks. There is conscious and unconscious memory banks, many books seem to agree that unconscious memory is temporary and requires refreshing all the time, reason we practice pool.
Conscious memory on the other hand if it is not free, effects how the unconscious memory behaves.

Pain, guilt (any cause), smoke or drug addiction, worry, fear, sad for what ever reason (physiological issues), lack of sleep which is a result of some of these issues, all takes big chunk of the conscious memory, you are continuously thinking about them, and flooding that memory. Pain medications certainly helps mask the pain, more obvious if you have back pain, you will play better if pain goes away, but i think after time, more dose is needed, and that is when i think trouble starts
Physiological issues are much harder to deal with, and unfortunately the best cure is that the cause is rectified if and where possible, otherwise addiction to drugs becomes biggest memory robber.

Ironically, pool does make you mask some of these issues temporarily, and could free some memory! who knows could be the best med in the long run..

I don't know the truth, but are there any proofs, reports or statistics showing that doctors are more likely to recommend cannabis if/ when they risk loosing their license, or that more than 50% of doctors who have recommended cannabis to at least one of their pasients, are close to lose their license?

Prednisone will fix what ails you. It's very hard on the liver and the side effects can be severe. It's a steroid. Makes me jittery and prone to sweating, not good on the pool table.

After a 10 day course I'm feeling right with the world and 10 yrs younger. For the next few weeks I play better because the aches and pains aren't there to distract. Nothing lasts forever though.

Another issue with cannabis is the anti-doping legislation when playing in sanctioned tournaments.

I don't think many drugs will help your pool game, but if you are addicted or have an illness, then sure.

I don't believe alcohol helps neither for most people, but if you have more alcohol tolerance than you oppenent and you get him/her to drink the same amount as you, then I guess it will work.

I agree Prednisone the cheapest and most effective temporary drug for 95% of aliments, and the worst side effect causing drug, it deactivates the immune system which reduces inflammation everywhere. Because it cures temporarily it frees part of memory that continuously thinking about the pain, allergy, it brings back some senses lost like smell, and taste, it gives you high energy, which makes us feel so great, which help our general health feel which has a direct effect on how we play pool or other mental activities.

Nootropics

Nootropics such as Aniracetam or Sulbutiamine may help your mind work better but, as others have stated, recreational drugs won't make you play better unless you are an addict and need them to calm your urges.
