If you go to onepocket.org there is a picture of the board from 1963. I have also seen similar pictures from numerous years where people are posing in front of the board. In an old book called "First five years of chalk up" they covered the tournaments and have pictures of the board.

in 1961 only One Pocket was played and only 16 players played:
Players: Rudolf Wanderone, Larry Johnson, John Vevis, Danny Jones, Jimmy Moore, Bill Staton, Johnny Irish, Hubert Cokes, Earl Schriver, Eddie Taylor, Joe Procita, Chris McGehean
1961 Results:
John Veavis $2,000.00
Jimmy Moore $1,000.00
Hubert Cokes $500.00
Rudolph Wanderone $400.00
We will soon be publishing a list of all of the winners of all divisions for each year along with monies won. We will publish the players lists of several years and more as we get them. This should be onsite within the next 45 days.

I've found lists of the winners, but I'm looking for something/someone more in particular. I think that I had sent you a PM on 1P.org a while ago with no response, but I'll send another and see if it jogs your memory.

Larry...I believe Jerry is referring to here! :grin: Interesting how Jerry says there were only 16 players, in the '61 event, but there's 21 players (plus the Jansco brothers) in the picture. 
Notable ones in the pic (but missing from Jerry's list) are a young Danny D, and Wimpy right behind him...not to mention Cisero Murphy, as the only black player. See ya Tuesday!

This may sound crazy, but here I go,
Bottom Row (L-R) Jimmy Moore, Danny Gartner, Al Coslosky, Paulie Jansco, George Jansco, Alton Whitlow (Babyface), Ed Beauchene (Detroit Whitey), Danny Diliberto, Norman Howard (the Jockey).
Middle Row (L-R) Bill Staton (Weenie Beenie), Hayden Lingo, Billy Burge (Conrbread Red), Eddie Taylor, Tugboat Whaley, Don Watson, Luther Lassiter, Joey Spaeth.
Top Row (L-R) Bunny Rogoff (Pots and Pans), Jr. Goff, Cisero Murphy, Earl Schriver, Jack Breit (Jersey Red), Tom Cosmo.
I don't know the second guy in the middle row (maybe Johnny Vevis). This just goes to show how far back I go. I first went to Johnston City in 1963 (I was 19).

Well, Jay, I'm still trying to find more information on that certain player that so far you've been the only one to recognize out of a small handful of those I've asked. I'll get ahold of him by the end of the weekend to ask a few more questions, unless I can escape the house and go ask him in person tonight. After that, I'd be interested to see how far under the radar he stayed and if there's anybody else on here that may remember running into him. It's one thing to hear stories from a person, it's another to get it from a different angle(a spectator or somebody they played).

I just stopped about 1 month ago as I was driving by Johnston City and took some pictures of what it looks like now...(not much).
I have also just picked up some very, very old pictures taken inside and outside while the tournament was going on. These photos have never been published and frankly lots of folks I dont know.

You never cease to amaze......what a memory! I can't remember people I met yesterday. How many hours did you spend with that crew? I did notice that "Shorty" wasn't in the picture....hmmmm,..interesting.....they would have had to put him in the front row just to be seen.

steve booth still might have a couple of these prints available.
beard and cardone are a couple of the few still around that might know first hand. i think island drive might have been beating around southern illinois during that time frame as well.
