I've talked to NUMEROUS custom cue makers over the years and all of them were nice to me.
I've had two cues made by Richard Black, one by Mike Pancerny, and one by Dale Perry and I would recommend all of them. I know some people hate Dale Perry, for whatever reason, but he has been nothing but exceptionally helpful and friendly to me.
Richard Black and I go a long way back...I had him build my first cue back in 1978...just a few years after he first started. A couple years later I had him make me another one. He once told me that I called him from more places in the world than any other person he had built a cue for. I have talked to him from several states, from Japan, from the Philippines, and from Turkey. He once directed me to Dick Helmstetter in Iruma, Japan to replace an ivory ferrule on the second cue he built for me when I lived in the Philippines. Helmstetter was nice, as well, and showed me around the Adam Cue Company. He also offered to "spot" me as many cues as I wanted so that I could take them to the military bases and sell them at whatever I could get out of them, above his prices to me.
I think MOST cue makers are customer service oriented and friendly or they soon lose business. I don't care WHO you ARE...if you treat me other than friendly, I DON'T do business with you.
Aloha.
