Nicest Cuemakers

I've talked to NUMEROUS custom cue makers over the years and all of them were nice to me.

I've had two cues made by Richard Black, one by Mike Pancerny, and one by Dale Perry and I would recommend all of them. I know some people hate Dale Perry, for whatever reason, but he has been nothing but exceptionally helpful and friendly to me.

Richard Black and I go a long way back...I had him build my first cue back in 1978...just a few years after he first started. A couple years later I had him make me another one. He once told me that I called him from more places in the world than any other person he had built a cue for. I have talked to him from several states, from Japan, from the Philippines, and from Turkey. He once directed me to Dick Helmstetter in Iruma, Japan to replace an ivory ferrule on the second cue he built for me when I lived in the Philippines. Helmstetter was nice, as well, and showed me around the Adam Cue Company. He also offered to "spot" me as many cues as I wanted so that I could take them to the military bases and sell them at whatever I could get out of them, above his prices to me.

I think MOST cue makers are customer service oriented and friendly or they soon lose business. I don't care WHO you ARE...if you treat me other than friendly, I DON'T do business with you.

Aloha.

best of the cuemakers

Since we have the bad arrogant cue maker thread I thought I would start the other side of the coin by posting a few of my interactions.

Ron Haley - Super nice guy to talk to and was my first custom cue I ever ordered directly. I don't think I ever spent less than an hour on the phone cause we would just get talking. He always took the time to explain the process and kept me involved in the design process. Have several more on order with him.

Tim Scruggs- Had a refinish done by him. Very plesant on the phone and delivered the cue on time when promised for a little less than quoted.

Andy Gilbert - Just a great all around guy and his wife is very knowledgable when it come to cues as well . She helped me lay out a sweet design that Andy is building as we speak.

Murray Tucker- A wealth of information and hooked me up with some great yellow ferruls. Now if he ever gets around to building me a cue ....

John Showman - Ordered a cue from John and he was great to talk to on the phone very pleasent. Sends me a Christmas card every year.

Joel Hercek - Would give Ron Haley a run for his money in the nicest cuemaker I ever talked too contest. Very willing to talk and share his knowledge of cues and cue building and design. Responds to his e-mail every day from what I can tell.

Other nice makers that I have spoken with and was treated very well by are Steve Klein, Keith Josey, Paul Dayton, James White, Jerry Olivier, Travis Nicklich, Mike Webb.

Let's here about some good experiances you A-Z er's have had.

Mike Erwin deceased but still the best living on thru his son.
Steve Lomax good guy wants to help you.
Ron Kilby honest and easy to talk to.
Guys at OB cues. They have the moral character of times gone by. Honest, really care about your experience with their product and service during purchase.

Ling Chou Lucasi is the custom cue maker that made my Lucasi custom cue.
All he really wanted was a new bicycle for making it.
He is 14 years old and the senior cue maker at his factory in China.

Bob Dzuricky,Tom Gedris from Triplecross cues, Andy Gilbert,Jon Spitz,Richard Chuddy
All have been very, very nice to me and have been in contact all the way thru building proces.
Have great custom experience with all of them. However Bob Dzurizky's customer service and kindness can hardly be beaten.
Tom Gedris is also one of nicest for sure.He will help you whatever is the reason and will no spare his time on that.

Skip Weston was more than easy to deal with on my two he crafted for me, Olivewood veneers on my ebony nosed one. Skip was great, communication was excellent imo, since some ideas are brainstormed over e-mails and phone.

only one

When I dealt with Meucci they were polite, goofed my order up and cue showed up late, they seemed very disorganized. The plain Jane Sneaky Pete I finally got shoots very well for me though.

Pat Diveney made my other cue. Cue is perfect for me and I love it. He was polite, never seemed to be in a hurry when we spoke and kept me informed during the build process. Cue showed up when he said it would. He has my buisness forever. He is a very talented and honest gentlemen.

I'll second Paul Drexler. It's been a pleasure working with him on my first custom cue order, he has been nothing but patient with all the changes that have been made, informative on the questions I ask, he responds to emails the same day most of the time and overall is a pleasure to work with. On top of that his trade-in program is unmatched AFAIK.

Forgot to add Royce @ OB Cues as another that makes you want to keep giving your business to after working with him.

BHQ Brent Hartman

Brent Hartman of BHQ is a really easy guy to talk with, responds quickly, and will do whatever it takes to make sure you get the cue you want. I was unclear on a process Brent would be using on my cue and it was hampering us from finalizing the design. When Brent figured out where the problem was coming from he offered to send me a couple pics and maybe a short video to explain it. The afternoon he called me and offered up his idea I was excited and the next day I had the info.

Pictures worth Many Many Words
After seriously 3 pics and about 30. Sec. of video I totally understood why many of my wants wouldn't work. Brent also had done a new design and sent that over too. I loved it and after a moment of thinking I called him to give my approval on the design and to give him artistic license on the rings and any and all remaining details. Giving up control over something. I have thought of doing for almost 20 years..but it was done. I decided to be happy that circumstance allowed me to shop for my woods and find some amazing stuff. Initially I wanted to be involved in just about all the choices involved in the making and designing of my cue.

Many Thanks to Brent for being patient, helpful, knowledgable and most of all honest. If I wanted the moon and he could only deliver a smaller closer star as his best alternative he would tell me...and then tell me what he could do that would be just as cool or cooler than my request. After putting him through this little back and forth quite a few times I realized I had already made the most important choice of the project all by myself...no not going from a plane Jane to a Fancy Schmancy Butterfly Cue...or my wood selections...it was my very first choice....I chose Brent to build my cue.

Joel Hercek

I've spoken to all these cue makers, and met some in person, all very nice and totally class acts. However the single nicest cue maker I've ever met has got to be:

ERNIE MARTINEZ

He has had a rocky past, but no one wants to please more than Ernie.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Ned Morris.... The man is amazing. His work is second to none, pure amazing works of art that plays like nothing else. Every cue is one of a kind cause he doesn't copy anything and he builds everything by hand, no cnc's for him. He's this nicest, kindest most genuine man I have gotten to know during the process of him building a cue we designed together. He sent pics throughout the whole thing and spent hours in the phone with me talking about everything from cues, cue building to everyday things that's going on in each others lives. He makes you feel like family. He actually offered to donate a cue to auction off to raise money for the family of a friend of mine who was murdered. I am a friend for life. Ned if you see this, I love you like a brother. GREAT PERSON, GREAT CUE MAKER!!!!! MORRIS CUES!!!!
