BREAKING NEWS: 8/28 Wed 9am, Archer on Today Show with Brooke Shields and Al Roker

1. They had Willie Mays on play one crossing over shuffle board shot

then

2. Johnny had Brook lie on the table and he had the CB on the rail on a pieice of chalk, and shot it over her into a dead combo at the ohter end of the table.

then

3. A ping pong champ played with Brook and the host. The ping pong champ used his iPhone to play.

The whole thing was probably 90 seconds.

Billy Mays, aka Texas Billy, legend in shuffleboard.

Yeah about the only way this would have been good for pool is if Johnny would have basically walked off the set disgusted saying "Saying, I'm tired of this crap! Pool is so much more than this. We dedicate our entire lives to this game and I'm not going to take part in casting it as some sort of stupid carnival game! I'm outta here!"

Better than no exposure, but not by much..... I agree, the whole segment appeared to be rushed through. Typical and not surprised at all.

Dopc.

that was weak, imo.

no interviews, just an intro for the shuffleboard guy, johnny, and a ping-pong champ.

1st shuffleboard guy makes his trick shot where hit knocks two disks or whatever they call them off the playing surface by sliding two other disks crossing them over diagonally at the target disks. I could prob make that shot 5 out of 10 tries. they mentioned it was a smaller shuffleboard table than normal.

then Johnny had a fun interaction with Brooke as she laid down on her back across the cheapo table which, btw, made no difference - they could have done this on a dining table if it had a corner pocket. Brook was only there as an obstacle for Johnny to shoot the cue ball over her face. he placed the cue ball on I believe, a cube of chalk (or a few cubes) and he then crouched down to strike the underside of whitey to send it over her face then rolling into the wired combo that was waiting down by the corner pocket. I think, unpracticed, I'm making that one 6 or 7 out of 10 times. His entire spot was maybe 60 seconds.

Then the ping pong guy played with a racket first then with his i phone against Brooke and the male host (don't know him).

All in all this was pretty much a waste of time.

not to be a negative nellie, just there was nothing good about it as far as promoting pool, no discussion with johnny, and the shot he got to take really must not have looked all that impressi=ve to folks at home. I don't think so, anyway.

Am I wrong in how I interpreted this segment?

Was there *anything* redeeming for pool?

best,
brian kc

Weak? That was weaker than last summers piss. No wonder the general population has such a low opinion of pool players.

This would have been better

If JA has missed and smacked he in the face with the cue ball it would have made every news cycle.
That would have been much better for pool.

Well, now that we've finally had TV exposure again, brace yourselves for the coming tide of new players entering the game. TCOM x 1000 IMHO.

I wanted to watch this live but my wife informed me that she cancelled the cable TV months ago because we never watch it. Now I know why. Looks like I haven't missed much. Anyway, thanks for the link. If this kind of exposure is what JA thinks is good for pool, we need a better spokesperson.

BTW where was my main man Hatch? I thought he was supposed to be the "lovely assistant".

Pool again, with shuffle board and ping pong, has been thrown under the bus . I am now embarrassed that I called friends to watch it. It certainly wasn't Archer's fault. The powers that be give pool no respect.

It would have been more impressive if Johnny would have shot it over about a 1/2 foot to the right over the higher portion of her body, it just grazes the back boobie, and then you hear Brooke go oooooo that tickled, while he still makes the combo. The camera pans on Johnny who smiles and says to the camera "You should see what I do on date #2".

I agree that was pretty weak overall.

better than that even would have been if Johnny would have gone on full tilt and, with his cue, beat the living crap out of the old guy, what was his name, Brandon Shuffleboard or something like that, then provide the same for ping pong guy, maybe even finish him off with a few smacks with his i phone, then jump up on the pool table declaring pool the victor.

yeah, that would have been better.

that...

I want to know where they got the highlight reel in the beginning of JA lagging the cue ball two rails out of the corner, not hitting the rack of balls? That was fantastic. I'm glad they replayed that twice cause I almost missed it the first time.

Seems like if they wanted a trick shot, they should have called a trick shot specialist.
Just sayin
