BREAKING NEWS: 8/28 Wed 9am, Archer on Today Show with Brooke Shields and Al Roker

I want to know where they got the highlight reel in the beginning of JA lagging the cue ball two rails out of the corner, not hitting the rack of balls? That was fantastic. I'm glad they replayed that twice cause I almost missed it the first time.

there probably was no footage to be found of mega-champion Johnny Archer making a great shot or busting open a rack, nice and proper.

I agree that two rail practice lag was the nutz. and to show it twice, a treat, indeed.

thanks nbc.

So Sears gets these guys to do a live ad of their gaming products. Great marketing if they actually made you think it was anything other than an ad. Hope they got paid!

JA came across terrific for what he was given to work with-as good as he could have done.. pool? .0001 more interest now!

call, text, tweet - NBC

unreal. just watched it "live".
did yáll catch Johnny chalking his cue after making the shot?

what we DO have the POWER to do, is BLOW UP NBC's inbox.

Social games got a bump in front of how many millions? Yeah, we were surely expecting more airtime. Would've been great for Johnny to have had the time to pump the M Cup and show an 8 second clip of someone sinking the winning ball in a Cup.

Let me ask... If our expectations had been ZERO and we just happened upon it on TV, what chatter would there be on AZ?

Tongue in cheek:

JAM: "Johnny was on the Today Show!"

MahnaMahana: "I friggin hate trick shots, this will doom pool!"

RobertaAgnor: "Johnny's hair looked so stylin', loved the shades!"

CJ: "It would have been an easier shot had he used TOI!"

Primo: "I'd have had Brooke upside down on the table!"

Neil: "I made that shot in the finals of the annual boy scout championship!"

KK9 <-- just poking fun, but gotta ask - Johnny, why did you re-chalk your cue after the shot? lol

I may be jumping to a conclusion, but I would think the footage would have been supplied by JA. Either way, this is another reason why Pro Pool needs an experienced marketing person/team to promote their game.

And I am laughing at all of the people posting after they saw the trick shot and seemingly disappointed. JA posted that it was going to be a trick shot. What did everyone expect?

Like I sent to Cleary the other day - so the ABP will be coming out with a trick shot tour, perfect. That is what pool needs. (sorry but I saw this coming)

I do think JA did the best with what he was given to work with in the Live portion. He stretched it out as long as he could even getting in a high five with Brooke. I have seen JA live promotions before - besides playing championship pool obviously - that is what he is good at.

edited to add: I'll bet more people try that shot today in a pool room than play a game of Bonus Ball. Even after 2 million dollars was spent on attempting to promote BB.

I thought the table might collapse....did you see those balls rolling around?

At this point, any kind of mass market exposure for pool has to be positive.

Way to go, JA....well done !!

I learned...

The 20 second segment taught me that Ping Pong is more important that pool and shuffleboard. It was obvious both Brooke and the guy had played before.

Ping Pong 1 Pool 0

Brooke's a pretty big gal. I realize she was wearing 4" heels, but Johnny's like 6' 2" and she just towered over him. A tad more meat on her bones as well. She'd probably move the balls a bit even on a one-piece Diamond slate.;)

Yep, they certainly seemed to have more fun with, and give more time to, ping pong. Looks like ping pong won the home recreational "fun" gold award, with pool and shuffleboard finishing in a dead heat for second.

Get on board Fox !!!

Hello, Fox Sports 1, did you take notes on this total disgrace of the sport we love ?

:groucho:

they could have at least picked a better footage for johnny archer...a montage of mosconi cup or johnny archer breaking like a scorpion......

they chose to promote the most boring part of the game. lol lagging

JA did good though with what he had.

Lol his hair did look nice, so did the shades!

After watching that video, I truly feel there are only 2 words that can describe the segment:

Dancing

Monkeys

LOL, playing one pocket is the pool equivalent of playing shuffleboard. :)

Disappointed on so many different levels.

1. Hype - Not blaming the thread creator, Johnny's FB page, or anything else. Many say some exposure is better than no exposure. That clip makes that debatable.
2. Info - The video of the lag (twice) was so wrong I don't know what to say. Nobody could find a better 5 second video than that?? Mentioning is 100+ titles was nice, but I'd have preferred that 5 seconds go towards "Captain of upcoming Mosconi Cup". At least then people might have Googled Mosconi Cup to see what it was about.
3. Shot/shooter - They (Today Show, us fans, pool in general) would have been better off with Venom doing one of his trick shots than that poor excuse of a shot.
4. Somewhere in the thread/FB, it was said Johnny had to come up with an extremely difficult shot. Please tell me this isn't the best you could come up with. Granted, he may have had to scale back a bit when he saw the equipment, but even wingshots would have been possible on this table. And it would've shown up the 2 handed shuffleboard guy!!

I was 13 and my brother was 7 when I did the more difficult version of this shot where I had the CB on chalk as JA did, but my brother had a cube of chalk in his mouth with a ball on top and I shot it out of his mouth and into the pocket.

At 13 I didn't need the dead combo to increase my margin of error. And I made the shot 9 out of 10 times!! Of course my mom freaked when she saw us doing this, but it was fun.

I feel bad for Johnny and am almost embarrassed for him.

ANY press is better than no press. But agreed, it could have been better. and worse.
