There were also regional payouts and the American Billiard Club Association is actually paying out about 120% of what it took in :)
Obviously without sponsors we won’t be around too long with that formula but we do plan on having ALL of our players fully sponsored, playing for free and the association having industry sponsors so we can provide players, the industry and our fans with our own self reliant organization.

Be part of the solution and get your local club on board for Session II starting Oct 28th. American Billiard Club Association

Hope you win, Joe. Great event. Bravo for getting this innovative new pool movement going!

American Billiard Club finals

I am really hoping that some of the other Rooms (and players) take notice of this program.

If you are a player that wants to see how you 'stack up' both locally, regionally, and nationally in a NON handicapped event; THIS is for you.

Minimal travel necessary to see how you can do. Play for 7 weeks in your local room (ONLY one rooms per area). Now a talented or determined player can test their mettle and still have a real life and job.

All play on 9' tables.
Only 8 players allowed for each location.
7 week session
Matches can be scheduled by the players.

6 session scheduled per year - so many opportunities. With 32 rooms (256 players), there will be over $200,000 in prize fund annually!

This could become the future of pool in the US. Please read the original post for contact info. CSI is proud to be involved in this project.

Adam was a huge help getting things going down in Orlando and a prime example of a what we want to see more of; High level player that works full time, leads a responsible lifestyle but still wants to compete at the highest levels possible.
We're going to need a few guys down in Orlando to play against him in session II, seems a few players feel they bit off more than they could chew?

First off good luck I know you have been working hard at this..

Now a question..

Is this your league? In other words ultimately is it your goal to turn profit with ABC?

I ask this because I am very surprised to see you playing in it as well as being the owner.

I hope the tournament and your league is a great success and that out here on the west coast rooms by into the concept.

I cannot say enough about my experience with this league! I hope others see how beneficial this can be for everyone and GETS INVOLVED!

Go Gordy!!!

Ken

p.s. Sorry Joe...gotta pull for the home team!

Thanks Frank, i have been working hard but that's because I have REAL chance at making a dream come true; A real tour that current and future players can compete on without having to beg, borrow or ****** to play on. A tour that is self sustained by the pool playing community itself and not just someone else.

Turn a profit? If we succeed in building the product we intend on, something like golfs Web.com Tour I hope we can turn some kind of profit. Right now as Mark would say "We're just trying to figure out a way not to lose too much" The main goal is to build a self sustaining organization, one that can pay the bills and put on at least 6 national events a year without busting the pool players.

As for me playing, you're right to be surprised, I am too. I had no intentions of playing and when a room north of Boston (60 miles from me and about 90minutes around 5 6 pm) had only 7 players I filled the 8th spot for them, I would have much rather played at Snookers, 15 minutes from me. I checked with Mark and he thought it was okay and I thought it would be nice to be right in there to see how the players felt. At the NE regionals we had 12 players and 2 were going to qualify for nationals, didn't think I would be one and nobody at the tournament had objections to how things went, the regionals were awesome and we all had a good time with the format. Once I did qualify I offered to pay as much of the player fees for next session for all the players that came in last place at each of our rooms (cuz I know they all showed some heart and support) and that is what I'm going to try to do with any profits I make. Finally, I really didn't want to play because this means I cannot do commentary for at least the first 3 rounds of the event, something I really want to do because nobody knows all the ins outs and benifits of what we're doing as good as I do. So I asked Mark if I could or should withdraw but he didn't think it would be a good idea for us to be switching players after the fact.

I spent all this weekend sending invitation to rooms all the country (about 100!) and am really looking forward to the left coast becoming apart of this. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...53870714.1073741826.1351791311&type=1&theater

The founders are Mark Griffin, Don Owen and myself. We are very lucky to have two guys like Mark and Don that are willing to risk money to build something they believe will be good for the sport.

Joe,

This is awesome! I was happy to be a part of the first session and look forward to the next!

I agree with Mark G, I hope more rooms and players get involved.

Thanks again for all you do Joe!

1. Looks awesome, I hope it comes to a pool room near me. Thanks for putting in the hard work to get something new started!

2. I had a similar thought to Joey. Speaking from experience running and playing in my own tournaments, some people think it's fishy when you win your own events. I did it anyway, but while trying to get something new and big off the ground, it might be better if the first big winner is not Joe T. Since I doubt you want to literally throw a match, maybe consider replacing yourself with the second place finisher from your home room, or a randomly drawn player from the entire field?

This is just a suggestion, I don't mean to dictate how you run your business. The more important point is #1.

That is a huge purse for 8 players.

Way to go, Joe!

Thanks Joey. It is a pretty good prize fund, especially for the first time out. I think most of the real beauty of the format is hidden. We’re so use to saying “How much is added?” that we don’t look at how much it costs? The worst thing that happens to an ABCA player is they play 7 matches of rotation locally, about 17hrs worth of table time and tough competition and as Majic stated, they’re out $175. (This upcoming session it would be $105 for players choosing to compete with Amateur status) So while we’re not piling on the BIG SHINY $$ displays I believe we are saving players a lot of it by having them earn rather pay way to the SHOW. It’s going to allow current and future players a sensible addition to their pool careers. None of it works if players don't support whatever proactive room owners we're lucky to have. So I encourage every player to ask their local room "Are we going to have 8 players playing out of here in the next American Rotation Championship series?"

Congratulations, I highlighted the part I like the most.. I recently quit playing in any form of handicapped pool including leagues and it has improved my game already..
