I am cutting that ball in the side pocket every time I see it. It's not a difficult shot and the side pocket is a big pocket, the shape is natural for the combo next. Just have to shoot the combo with the correct speed, the 8 can go just about anywhere since it's in the middle of the table. Easy out really..

An old Mosconi Cup situation.
What shot do you like here?
I see four options.
• Cut in corner
• Cut in side
• Bank combo
• Safe
I personally like banking soft into the 6, soft enough that the 4 hangs near the hole.
The bank will pick up natural roll since I didn't slam it, and IMO both balls are very likely to go.
Soft speed should also decrease the odds of being hooked by the 5.
Draw and a full hit with right spin to hold the cue ball so it slides up a bit, but (ideally) isn't near the rail.
This is a (tightened?) brunswick btw.
What do you think most pros would do here?
For me, no contest....I'm cutting the 4-ball in the side...
......load it with left english so it's still spinning on the second rail...
...this way, you either carom the 9-ball softly or hit short of it for the 5-6 combo.
On standard pockets, you could cut it in the side and load it up with r), going side, side, top, side rails to end up on top r) end of pictured table.
I would prob shoot the 4-6 to not make both and the angle described above is good to get cb off the side rail...

Youre absolutely correct. I went down and set up the shot. The cut to the corner is much thinner than it looked on the diagram. After trying it, a cut in the side or a safe make the most sense to me.

I just played the shot and videos it. My favorite by far was cutting the 4 in the corner, and playing the CB between the 8 and 9.

Thanks a lot for posting the videos - that pretty well sums up the options.
I have a suggestion to try for you. On your 5-6 combo's, what you can do to control the 5 ball position better, is roll the 5 at soft speed toward the very center of the pocket (the shooter's left side of the six ball). Hitting the wrong side of the six will usually stop the five in place and the six banks in off the pocket facing.

The bank is so-so. Its easy to make the bank combo, but also missable, and also can get the 4 stuck behind the 5 as you will see happened.

Thank you for the advice. I tried it several times (from a short distance to test the concept with accuracy). It worked very well. The 5 stayed in the pocket after the 6 fell. Also several times the 6 double kissed off the 5 before falling, but the 5 still stayed right in the pocket.
In my opinion, the shot to practice is to cut the 4 in the corner smoothly with about a tip of right, playing off both side rails to the wide open area of the table. There are no collisions and therefore no surprises that way.
I tried that with a hair of right, just enough to miss the 8. Probably a half tip on the first video I think. I think it went too far up table, and left too long a shot on the combo. If I had played it with a full tip, I think the CB would have ended up on the end rail.
What about throwing it in the corner with a little bottom right (maybe around 4...5 o'clock), and spinning out 3 rails towards the 5?
I tried that at the end of the first video, but I lost the video it glitched. Anyway I tried it about 5 times. I couldnt get the CB to the short rail. The best I could get it was to scratch in the corner.
