R.I.P. George Fels

How awful. I used to eagerly look forward to reading George's column. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. You will live forever in our minds Mr. Fels.

What a loss – truly a sad day for pool.

When I see people post questions on the forum like "what's the problem with pool" or "why isn't it pool more popular", I think of all the reasons why these things are true. After some reflection today, one of those reasons is there aren't enough folks like George Fels...folks who speak intelligently and eloquently about the game, who love it solely for the beautiful game it is, who navigate the sport with a kind and generous demeanor to anyone they meet. Imagine the change in what pool is today, if more of the things George exhibited were consistently seen and associated with game.

I didn't know George, but I did meet him once several years ago at one of the recent World 14.1 tournaments. It was great - you could tell how much he loved the game. It was a pleasure to speak with him even if it was only for a few minutes.

Sincerest condolences to all of his family and friends - there are surely many of you out there tonight feeling a great loss.

I will not post for 24 hours to honor the memory of Mr. George Fels. It is my way of remembering a great human being who loved this game from the depths of his soul. I will take this time to think about what he meant to me personally and to the game he so loved. 9:11, how fitting. Thanks for that George.

Getting my monthly BD delivered is just not going to be the same. I always read the magazine starting on the last page :)

My sincere condolences. It's like a lightening bolt struck - and a legend was taken. Life is so fragile. RIP George.

RIP, Mr. Fels.

I never met George or saw him play, but knew him to be one of the most thoughtful and eloquent voices in billiards. My copy of How Would You Play This taught me a great deal about shot selection, just as his Billiards Digest column deepened my appreciation for the game.

My thoughts are with his loved ones.

RIP Mr. Fels.

Your legacy will live on through your amazing work.

I met George several times in passing and he was always a perfect gentleman who was a great ambassador for the game. He will be missed.

I always turned to the last page of my BD when it arrived; your column was tops.

Shocked

I read this in disbelief.

I was fortunate enough to meet George several times over the last decade old so. Several times at Derby and recently at Mosconi Cup and HOF

One time he went out of his way to come talk with me - I felt honored.

He was a giant in our industry - always a gentleman.

He will be missed - RIP Mr. Fels.

So sorry to read this news. I have only met George a few times at various pool happenings, but I got to know him on this forum through his contributions to various threads and colloquy with me.

I remember one time, I replied to him and called him "Baby Cakes." He said nobody has called him "Baby Cakes" in a long time, and he was absolutely thrilled. :)

George Fels is a rock in the pool world that will never be washed away. His legacy will live forever through his words of wisdom he shared for many years. RIP to George Fels. May he rest in peace always. My deepest sympathies go out to his friends, loved ones, and family.

What an awful way to begin the new year. RIP sir and my condolences to your family.

This was an unbearable loss for me. We had been pals for 52 years. I was so looking forward to hanging with him at DCC.
Sorry, but mere words cant express my sorrow at the moment. I just know that I am going to miss him terribly.
