"CSI has already begun sending invitations to players selected not only for their proven skills and accomplishments, but also for the respect and dignity they display as professional pool players."

And fair play to CSI. Stick by your principals!

It's similar to Bigfoot DCC event, I guess. All applicants need to be approved and/or invited. :)

And it's "principles," not "principals." :D

Jenny and Scott,

Know you both have degrees in poolology but linguistics as well ;) :sorry: ?

You're right, but it's my guess that CSI will also stick with its "principals" as well. I don't see Mark going anywhere lol.

I learned the difference between "principle" and "principal" in the second grade (1950), and I doubt I'm the only one...

Nothing to be ashamed of in being able to spell, or not being able to spell. But being literate has its advantages.

We'll get lots of good matches with format. Only top level pool. Nice to see this format.

I think the interesting part will not only be who are in the line up for these tourneys but who are not in the line ups. I am sure we can all guess some of the names that will be missing.

Start with Rodney Morris, Archer, Charlie Williams, Raj, Stevie Moore. Who else do we expect to be on the uninvited list?

Maybe it's just me but I can really care less about a player's respect and dignity they display. I don't have to live with them. I see it as more of a we are taking our ball and going home kinda additude. And btw, this will not even move the needle in terms of the rest of the worlds perception of pool, cause tuxedos worked so well.

Donny, I was once in a meeting and when the discussion got around to distributing information I piped up with "We need to decimate this information everywhere we can." I wanted to say 'disseminate this information' and I misspoke BADLY! A couple of people gave me a funny sideways look and finally one guy graciously corrected me. To say I was embarrassed is an understatement. Where was Grady when I needed him?

Damn Donny,

Thought I was an old fart!!!! In 1950 I was only in the first grade. I think!

Have to admit. My spell checker is a life saver. Without it, I'd be totally unprincipled :D !

Something about this seems to rub me wrong.

"By invitation only" sounds more like a Country Club event than a legitimate sporting event to me.

There may be some venues where a select field makes sense, but for the most part an OPEN tournament is the real deal. You don't know who will show up. And the possibility exists that the best player may be one you never heard of.

I understand that this years US OPEN will not be an open, but a Country Club event instead.

Don't mean to defend un-sportsman like conduct detrimental to the sport, but I have concerns that the baby might be getting thrown out with the bath water here.

I'm of the belief that any contest that wishes to crown a champion can only be taken seriously if it is open to all competitors.

Sometimes there are more than two sides to the coin.

Personally I'm more curious to know details about the plans for these events, than specifically who or who is not invited.

This is the start of the new direction CSI has spoken of and I'd like more insight into their vision. Looking forward to more details about the seedings, etc. With smaller, invited fields the competition should be stellar. There won't be the usual dead money, easy draws...every match a potential "stream table" match. Also sounds like you won't have to devote 5-6 days to attend each event.

It will be interesting to watch how this plays out.
