Top 8 Mosconi picks announced!!!

You cant be serious

Really you think hall,Bergman, sossei, Schmidt an everyone is a better player then Dechaine? Only player better then mike is SVB. Yes he is cocky an arrogant who the hell cares but he ain't the 9th best US player. Jeremy is a Connecticut boy so let's c what would happen if he an mike match up even 4 the cash. Jeremy is straight up getting robbed even, an he knows it

When Matchroom gave Mark the Mosconi job they trusted him to an unprecedented degree because that is the only way that this could work.
So he set about creating his squad of 8 players. That they are on the list shows that they can play a bit but he interviewed a large number of candidates. He was looking for character traits which would enable them to mesh together to bring out the best in each other.
He is confident that he has found that mix and these players will spend the summer together both competitively and socially. No amount of lobbying will see that change.

Personally I would liked to have seen Mike Dechaine in the squad, But that would have been good for MD but not necessarily good overall for morale. He could have been given the ultimatum to Shape Up or Ship Out but Mark probably thought it was not worth that risk. But I back Mark's judgement on that.

Any player who excels this year will most likely get a call next season. But should that call come then they will know what is expected of them

I'm not on the list and prolly wasn't even thought about
But bring Corey to Columbus he can play me even 10 ball there
In fact leave Shane home I'll play the whole team

I wish Mark would have given you some or more consideration. When forming a team players to fill roles are sometimes needed. I think you could have added a lot in the heart/competitive/grit area and you play as well as them too. Acting professional and representing the country well is another area you would be fine.
Playing some of the doubles I think your gambling background gives you an edge in knowledge and staying focused playing with others.

Interesting comment about playing Corey even 10ball. Something I think might surprise many posters on here.

One thing Mosconi-Cup-Team discussion brings to light is how wrong are the countless pool players and fans who always think it's about the money.

It is and always has been about respect.

Even those who play champion-level pool and manage to stay under the radar want respect from a certain peer group for playing champion-level pool while managing to stay under the radar....

respect...

Sorry guys, just another stupid question. Why is ones ability to gamble more important than ones ability to play pool at the highest level? There are quite a few players who rarely if at all gamble yet they are some of the worlds best. Just don't understand the point. What's better? Big heart or big talent?

I would not necessarily equate playing for cash with heart, we saw supposedly good money players fall apart like a cheap suit under the Mosconi pressure.

not a stupid question, just not on topic...

I really hope the Mark can create a good team with these players. I've heard good things from some of these players, so it's a great opportunity if anything. I will support anyone who makes the team and has the heart. See you in Blackpool ;)

The backer usually has more at risk than the player in a cash game. In the Mosconi the pressure is all on the player.

What Bartrum has is almost exactly what the USA has lacked in the past several years and there are MANY players of those 8 that have shown a serious lack of heart and grit and nerves in their last trips out to the Mosconi Cup.

There are guys on that list of 8 that had to put their underwear through the washer twice before they could wear them again after their last Mosconi Cup experience...

The USA needed to pick "guts" to send these guys into the shark tank that is Blackpool, and Mark skipped picking the gutsiest player in the USA.

Why does the player lose money in the Mosc cup ?
They get money win or lose
When you gamble you have to win to win money
Lose and you lose your money plus your friends money
At the Mosc cup loser gets 7500 each winner gets 15 k each from what I been told
Seems to me gambling is harder

You are assuming it's the money

It will definitely be the atmosphere that gets the heart thumping, the $ will have very little to do with it. Wishing Mark and the USA team the best of rolls!

Truth is that most of us might have done one or two things differently than Mark, but so what? He has picked eight solid players using the criteria he deemed appropriate and will take the job of preparing his team more seriously than anyone that has ever coached Team USA.

Some of these guys are truly in great form right now. I love the Justin Bergman choice. After all, after looking solid at the Derby, he took down a killer field at Hard Times about a month ago, beating Biado in the final. Another player to get excited about is Jeremy Sossei, who was 7th in the US Open 9-ball and second at Turning Stone. In truth, most, but certainly not all, of the eight selected have played well of late.

It can easily be argued that three of America's five best players (Dechaine, Archer, and Morris) will not do battle for Team USA this year, but that said, I think we need to give Mark Wilson the benefit of the doubt, for he assembled a group of guys he believes can succeed together, and the fans need to get behind him and his selected players.

Good luck to Mark Wilson and all eight players selected in bringing home the cup.

2 questions - and i might have missed this somewhere in all of the threads:

1) is Mark Wilson on AZB?
2) after 8+/+ days of Mosconi plus "training/exhibitions" downtime, wouldn't Bartram clear more than $10K (loser)/$20K (winner) simply doing what he does, here?

Mark Wilson is not on AZB - although he does read what is posted here.

I can let you know that Mark was looking for players that were wanting to play for their country, not based solely on the money. If you want to break it down to money, chances are you would not be playing with Mark Wilson as captain.

It should be about playing for our country
Good luck to our team
