C.J. Wiley VS Keith McCready - What's The Line?

I understand your thoughts and respect your choice. I'm quoting your post again, though, to mention this.

For every single donation to this American Road Player reality series, the donor will receive products based on the amount of the donation. These products, many of them, are donations from the sponsors.

Every donor, no matter what the amount, will get a free tip picker device on a keychain by PoolDawg. As the donation amount go up, the free products given to the donors go up, and they include Hustlin' USA Clothing Co. baseball caps, T-shirts, towels. There's also posters and bumber stickers.

There's also free passes to the Derby City Classic, if you're going. BTW, Keith told me that he spoke to Greg Sullivan yesterday. Greg is 100 percent behind this project.

I guess what I wanted to say and why I quoted you again is that for each donation, the donor will receive something back. If the American Road Player reality series does not reach its goal of $40,000, all donors will receive their donations back in full.

My point is this is quite different than the IPT, Bonus Ball, or other pool-related mishaps. This is not a tour or a tournament, either, that ropes in players and promises them the Moon. This is just a fellow pool enthusiast's attempt to make something positive happen. If there's enough interest, then there will be a green light to move forward. If there is not enough interest, well, at least they tried.

Vince Lombardi's famous quote rings true here. There are three kinds of people in this world: those who make things happen, those who watch what happened, and those who wonder what happened. The Americanr Road Player folks are trying to make things happen. I'm pulling for them to succeed.

Very good post JAM. I'm donating to ARP. I very much want this to succeed...... In my opinion they couldn't have a better plot and with Keith involved it just makes it that more appealing

That would be Jimmy Vernon - you can still see him around Popular Bluff.

I've been to that bar in Hayti, right off the highway. It used to be have a 3 x 6 bar table and they would play 6 ball and break from the middle of the table. Stopped in there with Lil Ricky on our way to Memphis. They had put a legitimate 3 1/2 x 7 bar table in but you could still see the break marks from the center of the table so they still played that same game. Ricky told me to get up there first and get them playing. So I got a couple of games for a drink, then $5, then $10. Then Ricky took over, soon we were playing for over $200 a game, side betting with anyone willing in the bar. Ricky noticed they closed this back door while he was playing. We busted the guy out of about $2100 and he said follow me to the next town and his brothers bar. We said ok so we could have a safe exit from the bar. Following the guy down the highway, staying close behind, he pulls off the highway towards the next town. Ricky keeps following him and then at the last possible second whips back onto the highway and away we went.

Last time Danny Cook was in St Louis.......ok I won't tell that story.

Ricky was always upset that some kid named CJ beat him when they were both younger.

I believe the bar just off the highway was The Idle Hour. While you and/or CJ were playing in this area did you ever wander over to Caruthersville?

I called him "Doc Watson," he carried a "cane cue" and wore a white, panama hat

The "Idle Hour," what a spot, I haven't heard that name in over 30 years.

I can't remember all the names of towns and players, there was a tremendous amount of action in that entire area of Mo. and NE Arkansas.

Jerry Watson from Canada came around Farmington when I was hanging around. We played in some guy's basement and I beat him 2 sets.....he was a great player and I was probably the under-dog at that time (I was 17). He had just been over in Louisville Ky during the Derby and cleaned up on the bar table.

I called him "Doc Watson," he carried a "cane cue" and wore a white, panama hat. He still contacts me from somewhere in the Philippines (on FaceBook).....he told me if I went over there where he is I'd never want to leave.....wonder if he was "hustling" me. ;)

Good. I'd like to know why you find the topic of Keith McCready so damn interesting that you feel the need to share your thoughts on someone you know nothing about.

Of course, I already know the answer to that. Keep on keeping on what you do best on this forum.

Selective reading at it's finest, Jam.

This isn't about Keith. It's about players that have past their prime, and do not perform as well as they once did. Luckily for Keith, you can still play pool at a high level even at an old age. But forgive me for not thinking he'll be the same player he was when he was in his 30s.

It's called getting older. It happens to every player in every single sport. Just look at Kobe Bryant in the NBA. From age 22-30 (in his prime), he averaged 28.6 points per game. From 30 to now (age 36) he's averaged 24.4 points per game. Why the sudden drop? He still loves the game and has the desire and drive to play well, yet his numbers still declined. It's because age and injuries are finally catching up to him.

I look forward to watching Keith play again, because I know he can still play well and he'll still be entertaining. But I have no hopes that he'll dominate players like he used too. The only people that think that are those with bias. Just like biased Lakers' fans that still think Kobe is the best player in the NBA.

I'm sorry... I'm coming into this late and don't see a link to a donation option anywhere in your post. Could you post a link?

Okay, Jon. I got a little line on you now. I would like to know why you feel the need to continue to write about Keith McCready, someone you know absolutely nothing about.

Why not post a little about yourself, so I can analyze you?

Waiting with bated breath for this information, so I can provide an in-depth analysis, like you are about Keith, again, someone you have never seen play pool and know nothing about.

Thank you for your interest. They have several donation categories. If this projects goes through and reaches the goal of $40,000, you will receive product from pool sponsors based on the amount of your donation. If the goal is not reached, you will be refunded your money.

Thank you so much. I sure do hope the goal is met for Keith's sake and the others. He was looking forward to this project, as I am sure everyone involved is. Time will tell, I guess. I appreciate you taking a shot. :)

What are you talking about? This is a forum about pool. Keith McCready is a pool player. People are allowed to discuss pool players here.

Quit taking everything as a criticism. Saying a 50-something year old man isn't going to play as well as he did when he was 20-something or 30-something is totally acceptable. Stop trying to harangue and bully everyone who posts something you dislike. Please. It's tiring at best.

Personally, I have little interest in seeing two players who are past their prime match up. Give me a European robot (who can play the game at the highest level) any day of the week.

You and the other trolls have something in common.

There may be others on this forum who would like to see Keith McCready play pool. I hope you never have that opportunity.

Exactly how am I (and others) trolling? By disagreeing with you? By agreeing with the sentiment that people's skills in sport generally decline as they get older?

If other people want to see Keith McCready play pool then good luck to them. I'm not jumping on them for expressing that opinion. Unlike how you're responding to people posting anything even approaching criticism of this "project".

I am responding to knockers and nits who are providing an opinion about a pool player they know nothing about, number one.

Number two, those, like you, who have expressed they don't want to see Keith McCready play pool in 2014, I realize most of them are multiple-identitied members and trolls. In this regard, I need to consider the source.

I will continue to respond to trolls and anonymous members expressing an opinion about Keith McCready's strength as a pool player if I deem them to be not competent ot make such an opinion.

You and I have danced before on this forum, and you continue to jump in and out of threads challenging people with flippant remarks and sarcasm. You might think you're being witty and cute, but I find you pathetic and a disgrace to this pool forum. And that's *my * opinion.

Sure, people can have an opinion about a pool player's capabilities, just like they do a horse at the horse races, but this pool player is a member of this forum and is somebody I care about. I respect opinions backed with a solid foundation of knowledge, but I cannot respect opinions shared by anonymous members who have a track record of contributing sarcasm and flippant remarks to other members on this forum. Therein lies the difference.

As far as the "project" goes, of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I totally agree with this. My reply to you and the other anonymous member posting has nothing to do with the "project."

Who are you talking about when you say "multiple-identitied members and trolls"? From what I can tell, that's no more than an ad hominem argument you like to throw out when you're struggling to counter somebody's actual points - like the point that a 50-something year old man generally plays worse than he did when he was 20-something.

You and I have danced before on this forum, and you continue to jump in and out of threads challenging people with flippant remarks and sarcasm. You might think you're being witty and cute, but I find you pathetic and a disgrace to this pool forum. And that's *my * opinion.

So because this person is a member here and somebody you care about, people aren't allowed to comment on their capabilities without being shouted down and labelled as trolls? Because that is exactly what has happened in this thread.

And honestly, I wonder how much of a member Keith McCready actually is. I know he has an account, and I've seen him post on it himself, occasionally. But in my opinion, the majority of posts from that account are directly from you, and have nothing to do with Keith outside of his name being at the top of them. And that's *my* opinion.

As far as the "project" goes, of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I totally agree with this. My reply to you and the other anonymous member posting has nothing to do with the "project."

And yet my post and the other post you responded to both had something to do with the "project".

If enough people want to watch this thing then it shouldn't matter if I, and others, aren't that interested in it. People are allowed to be less than enthusiastic about something containing your other half, and they don't deserved to be labelled as trolls for expressing that sentiment. This is a discussion forum. There has to be some discussion on here outside of just agreement and backslapping. Surely that is the whole point of this place.

As far as Keith posting on this forum, it is because of members like you that he does not post here as often as he used to when he had his own subforum in the Ask the Pro section. The climate of AzBilliards Discussion Forum has changed since 2003. In some respects, the news coverage has gotten better and better, but the quality of posts in this Main Forum aren't as fun as they used to be -- well, at least for me. I can't speak for the entire forum who were members back in 2004 on up.

If somebody posts an opinion based on their knowledge, whether I agree with it or not, I can, and do, respect it, but I do not respect posts written by established knockers and nits on this forum who continue to jump in and out of threads posting flippant remarks and sarcasm. That is you. This is the category I believe you fall into. It's not just me on the receiving end, like it is this morning. It's anybody who you believe you can take advantage of and exploit, writing assine remarks that oftentimes have nothing to do with the topic of the thread to begin with.

Best thing Keith and I both can do, I think, is to not contribute to AzBilliards Discussion Forum anymore. Even when Keith does contribute to the forum, his words are sometimes met by knockers and nits and those, like you, who believe it is me writing my thoughts, as if I am Keith. Nothing could be further from the truth. Keith may have expertise in shooting pool, but it just so happens I'm good at converting the spoken word into print. That's my expertise.

The negative energy that is generated by posting on AzBilliards Discussion Forum isn't a good thing for me personally. Life is too short, at least for me, to subject myself to this type of experience. I take hiatuses all the time. I say the Serenity Prayer. Life goes on . . .

Do you know how to read?

For the bazillionth time, this is NOT ABOUT KEITH MCCREADY.

There, did you get it that time? This is about the fact (yes...fact) that every single player in every single sport in the history of the world loses a step or two when they get older. Especially the ones that don't even play competitively for an extended period of time. You're defending a person for something that need not be defended.

Would you prefer that I replace the name "Keith McCready" in all of my posts in this thread with the name, "Mike Sigel?"

All of my posts would still make sense, and maybe you wouldn't cry as much.

Edit: Thank you for the red rep, Jam.

With all the talk of hustling, gambling, road players, reality shows, etc., what is the "line" if there is a match of CJ playing Keith in a long race of 2-foul, old-school 9-ball?

Both of them are still capable of hitting the balls rather smartly, given enough notice and practice.

I'd be interested in hearing who people think may take home the cheese if this could be set up and played out.

Aloha.

IMO, Keith McCready, got a bigger gambling heart than CJ's ; therefore, KM will show CJ who is the teacher.. i love you CJ, best of luck to both of you old school!!

Don't kid yourself, CJ has had an impressive gambling career.

Grady said that Keith was "practically unbeatable" for a few years.

And the old pros in my old poolroom said that CJ was "the best in the country" for a while.

These guys are more alike than probably either wants to admit.
