Thanks for coming forward! I have a suggestion and others may as well! Explore the female history of the sport dating back to Mary Queen of Scotts in1587!

She loved the sport so much her servants brought her lawn game inside for her and pool was born! Upon her death they wrapped her body in the pool table cloth per her request!

This history and origin of pool has so much to do with female history. Odd it is dominated by males!

Sad to say that this 1 looks like a dud. I looked at their site and I haven't seen a single 1 of their shows. Hope I'm wrong and all goes well. GL.
 
Well, I certainly hope it goes into production. I will be a regular viewer. I also hope it will have the result of bringing more people into pool rooms. I'll also tell you my humble opinion of why it's a good thing.
When I started playing pool, it was basically a man's world. Now when I play, there are a lot more women, and more and more of them are really good players. They take it seriously and work very hard to develop their skills. Without being sexist, some of them are very attractive young, and not so young, ladies. Besides adding to the numbers in the rooms, by their presence in the room, they draw in more men players who come to see them, and play them.
If this show inspires more ladies to play, it can only be a good thing.
 
Imagine you go to the local pool room and there's this monster greyhound bus with colorful swirly letters
on the side that says

HUSTLE BUS

You think that might tip off any of the marks?
Maybe they park in the woods nearby.

"Reality" shows like this are scripted. TV production is too expensive to leave outcomes to chance. (using the example of Pawn Stars, all the sellers are selected and the negotiated price is agreed to in advance; all the "contestants" on The Bachelorette are actors). No one is surprised.

Even if you didn't see the bus, I doubt you'd miss the intense lighting and crew of 10 handling cameras, sound booms, etc. You'll know it's not your average day at the pool room.

It'll be neat to see what they do. If they've got someone in their camp that knows how to match up (and post), it can be pre-planned and still be entertaining. Shoot- half the entertainment is matching up.

We have developed and produced shows that have reached air for SPIKE TV, REELz, NATGEO, A&E and TRUETV. We don't go into a project lightly, nor do we look to waste our time and our money doing so. Not all Reality TV is "real". Most of the times, they are "reenactments" of events that have already taken place. Sometimes, they are not, and yes, we do have camera crews follow individuals around for weeks to capture the right footage.

We had a choice of "sports topics", Monster Trucks, Bowling and Billiards. Once we met Blair Thein, he made our decision easy for us. We expect shooting to start in about a month, but I can guarantee you, you won't see this on air until next spring.

This is a process. It takes time in order to do it right.

Look, we have a Priest that jumps out of planes to marry people; we have a guy who was bit by a King Cobra trying to rescue it and was in a coma for 3 days; we have a former wise guy whose group rescues animals; we have car shows (both serious and corny), "Vito" from the Soprano's, former Playboy Cyber Playmates, ………..so a Billiards series…….. we would;t be putting our money up if we thought the networks would;t be interested in it.
 
Mixed Emotions

I have very mixed feelings about an endeavor that showcases the "hustling" side of pool.

On one hand, I know that virtually every interview I have ever seen or heard in popular media contains a question about "hustling". It is THE very intriguing element of pool for those that don't really know anything else about pool, so its very easy to latch on to.

On the flip side, I personally feel that as long as billiards is perceived as a "hustler's" game, it will forever be relegated to a lower tier status and prevent true growth of the sport.

Understand that there I draw a difference between gambling and hustling. Gambling could increase the popularity of the sport immensely, but only if done on the up and up (see vegas odds). Hustling carries the connotation of grifters, back room games, a lack of integrity, and unsavory characters.

In the absence of popular elements that are elevating the sport to a higher level, I wonder if shining a spotlight on the hustling aspect of the game is really going to do the overall image of billiards any favors.
 
There's a lot of things going on in this show. Seemed interesting from the get go, I read up on it quite a bit as they contacted my girlfriend to be on the show (As there are not a lot of personalities like hers in the pool world).

Here is a brief update on the show. SHE SHARKS is now under development for one of the largest national brand cable networks that also have global reach, and many international affiliates. Initial footage is scheduled to start shooting mid-February in Florida. The cast commitments are as follows: RACHAEL ABBINK, DAWN FOX, KATHRYN FAIRCHILD and AKIKO KITAYAMA. We are waiting for confirmation on 2 more, high profile female players and will let you know when the cast is fully in place. There is another show on a smaller cable network that is being developed, and while that network is home to some of the most ridiculous (actuality) programming on TV, we are hoping they do right by the sport.

SHE SHARKS will explore the world of pool through the eyes of 6 female pool players as they trek across country on a 10 weeks tour. The show will feature many celebrities, professional football and baseball players as well as major pop music stars. The show will be shot through the eyes of the players and follow their trials and successes in this 10 episode series.

There is a bit issue with having a show about pool without some stories about gambling.

Here is how a standard tournament story would go.
"So Earl, tell me about the US Open you played in"
"well, I walked in the place, and I played a guy. First I made the 1 ball, then the 2 ball, then the 3 ball, then the 4 ball, and a 5-9 combo. Next rack I made the 1 ball, the 2 ball the 4 ball to the 9. Next rack I made the 1..".

Not a lot of TV or even radio material there.

Now here is a story about some action.
"So Earl, tell us about the time you and Bustamante played in Russia with those guys that wanted to kill you if you did not appologize for something you did not do".

Bam! You're straight up in your seat listening to the story.

Gambling is the best thing about our game. It's the reason our game even has the name "pool". It was the theme of the two movies that created the two booms in pool. People who are drawn to play pool, do so to win money more than any other reason. People keep trying to shove the gambling aspect out of pool but it's the biggest draw we have and it's only digging our own hole. Gambling isn't a bad thing. Embrace it.

Great news, I really hope this takes off. Will it be enough to make me get cable TV again? Comcast sure hopes so.
 
The name " Axius " was trademarked by the Brunswick corporation in 2009.
