Should there be full disclosure in PPV matches?

He may be talking about this https://youtu.be/QuD4TeR3iLU which was ufc fighters and team mates competing in abu dhabi, a submission wrestling tournament that paid prize money for stuff on the side like quickest sub. But there have been no instances where a ufc fight was a work afaik. In Japan things are different.

As for the pool match... was the Ko/Dennis match a real gambling match or was it two players under contract with the same promoter much like in boxing? Imagine Don King putting on a fight and taking all side action betting against one of the fighters. Who do you think is going to win that fight?

Boxing promoters pit their boxers against each other these days. It's so common now .
But, they are not allowed to take action.

Are people suggesting Ko dumped this match ? Is he that shady or starved for little money from dumping ?

Boxing promoters have had both fighters under contract for a long time that is nothing new. The UFC has both fighters under contract also. There is nothing wrong with putting together a competition where you have both competitors under contract imo. The problem comes if someone puts on an event like this and pretends that he has one of the players while someone else has the other and he is willing to take on more bets. I am asking if this was a real gambling match or not because I dont know. Im sure someone out there knows. If it wasnt it looks very suspect.

You can put lipstick on this all you want...it's still a pig. The casinos hear this sort of thing and any thought of taking bets on action matches and pool get put on the back burner for another half a century. That pisses me off. Johnnyt

When John French is asking pool rooms and streamers to submit offers to host and PPV matches he is involved with, I can imagine (and somewhat know) what is being offered.

Maybe this did happen a few times .
But from what I know 1 k is high.
Like Justin said I didn't get to play the tar matches at the end so I'm not sure how much they paid out .
 
I remember being told "if you don't know the guys you shouldn't bet on the match."

Given that was not a PPV match. It was in person where people could set you up and one guy could lay down. Seems like everyone trying to make a quick buck, over priced cues, and over priced PPV.

Full disclosure, is that where everyone will have to check a disclosure box before they watch a match? All of the backers, promoters (and players) explain their future plans and past history. I personal don't care.. if I want to watch a PPV, that's all I want to see. No drama.
 
There's no way Ko dump the match like some would like to suggest.

This guy is World 9b, World 10b 2015 champ. He doesn't seem desperate for money. He's able or is sponsored to travel to the U.S several times now and at many international tournaments. There's a lot of pride on the line for him to lose just to gain a few thousand dollars.

I would like to think he's a very competitive, high character pool player. Dennis just plain and simple played better than Ko for those 3 days.

The only one I can think of actually in the UFC would be Taktarov vs. Macias back at UFC 6. There may be others I'm forgetting, though.

I'm not saying people have to post their tax returns. Just basic things like what is actually being played for and if both guys are on the same team or not. If you dont care thats fine. I know a lot of people who buy a lot of PPV's who do.

Why do you think the NFL won't let owners have more than one team? Ever heard of team orders in F1 racing? Its common sense why promoters should be up front with basic facts of PPV events.

Now in regards to the French - Ko Brothers as a team. Yes, it should of been announced. I lost a decent chunk of change but that is regardless of the fact that something just smells fishy here. This has also translated to me not wanting to make side wagers on the SVB Dennis match, or any match that has French involved. I think its great that French is backing players and making matches happen but the aftermath of the ko/dennis match is poor form.

I'm pretty sadden by all of this to be honest...

See I'd still bet on the SVB match because Shane wouldn't dump, nor is he going to lose. He has Dennis' number and is gonna shoot his heart out.
 
JCIN, you have my money if you decide to do another match. The older Derby stuff was some of my favorite stuff in watching pool online. Tough on you and Chad but great for us.

Not to entirely derail the thread, but I recently tuned into Justin on Rogan's podcast, and I can't recommend it enough. It gave me a new appreciation of Justin. Seems like a straight up nice guy.

I'm glad you're still around to give input to the current state of PPV.

I lost $100 on the match betting on Ko. I paid as he lost the match, but the idea that he might not have "lost" the match in quite the way I was betting on sucks. It is pool so this part of the nature of betting on the sport.

That said, will I "ever" bet on a match that John French puts together again or watch it/buy the PPV? Probably not.

Ditto.

The end result was a negative. Forget about me losing my bet. I bet for the sheer pleasure of betting. And in the end, there was enough smelly fish going on that betting isn't going to make it more enjoyable in the future.

That would be nice to know but why would they admit it if they are robbing the rail?
