Shaw/ Bergman- OFF

This match was heavily promoted, months of hard work and promotions, event merchandise was made T-Shirts drinking mugs. Jeremy was brought in and paid to do the commentary.Professionally done posters and banners,

I know the fans were really looking forward to this match and so was i, Shaw and Bergman both great players.Very disappointing to say the least.

LOL! A collectors item for sure...might as well laugh. Crying does no good.

If Jayson is really pressing the issue of a Vegas match on Facebook, after pulling the no-show, that is truly classless.

Ahhhh, more to the story. Per Shaw himself, he has the text messages with whomever he was communicating with to arrange the match, so it appears that what was told to Shaw when arranging the match was that it was NOT to be a tight table, but a standard Diamond....if of course Shaw is not making this up...

You would think that the person that was communicating with Shaw about the playing conditions would come clean and admit that they possibly "mislead" Shaw....

If he has the proof that he was mislead about the table he needs to post it to protect others who might be tricked into a gaf game. It's only fair....

This is why gambling matches imo are no good “for today’s streaming world”. It’s much better if the promoter makes all the rules, equip picks, etc, and offers 2x to the winner, and 1x to the loser. (Or whatever odds). Otherwise, it’s just herding cats.

It's not like it happens daily. Just post no show money and be done with it.

Maybe his wife told him(Shaw) to call off the match.

I'm not buying the they change the table specs story.

Corey is damn good at 8b on a 7ft. Surprise to see Berg giving 3 games on the wire.

I wish Roy would send one of his horses to go play Bergman. Biado or Chua would be a crazy good match for Berg.

Would like to see DD.

Dayne Miller the room owner who was putting up some of the added money for the match also was betting on Shaw and had 10k of his own bet on that posted up.So who does he think was trying to pull a move, that same table has been used for tv matches for months in the action room there.

I really don't know what Shaw is thinking happened here.

The table they were going to be using had been posted many times over last few months in several different places. I even posted a picture of the table and pocket size few times here on AZBilliards in a another thread.

Maybe in Shaw's mind he really thought something fishy was going on, i guess he's the only one that really knows that for sure.

The last time Bergman played Shaw in St. Louis after he lost, he claimed they pulled a move on him for changing out the spot on the table.

Cancellation of this match is the very last thing that the room owner and stream provider wanted to happen. Tons of work and money were already invested in making the match a success.

seems kinda silly

Three on the wire in a race to thirty on a bar box seems a little silly. Either player is quite capable of running three racks or more in one inning. If I were into prop bets I'd bet fifty bucks that no set is decided by three games or less.

Chris Bartrum is staking Corey, he said he thinks Corey can win playing even at that game, but why not take games on the wire if they can get them lol

Bigtruck posted this picture of the table, looks like a standard Diamond pro-cut to me, did Shaw wanna play on a league cut table???

jUST IN CASE EVERYONE MISSED IT....dayne miller ,the promoter of this match, was the SILENT BACKER of jason SHAW. So anyone who now thinks a "move" was being pulled??? Dayne was staking jason and told he he would do"whatever needed to be done to make him happy" and for what its worth,i was betting shaw too. But enough with ANYONE thinking dayne miller and ANYTHING done at the steakhorse, would ever be anything but 100 percent on the square. Dayne can,t get to where he wants to be in the pool world by being shysty!

It used to happen enough that JCIN from TAR wrote about it a bunch of times, and that was one of the main reason he switched to the exhibition model where he put up ALL the cash and paid both players.

Pat with his Make It Happen series does basically the same thing.

what I guessed ...

I figured that is what it amounted to. What the heck, if you can get a spot why not? I think the odds are long that they will matter but those three games on the wire could end up being worth a lot of money.

FWIW ... on the fargo rate calculator, Corey being a 781 vs. Bergman a 794, in a race to 30, Corey has a 36% chance of winning. By giving Corey 3 on the wire, Corey becomes a 52.5% favorite.

So it seems that, according to the Fargo rate calculator, the 3 games on the wire are quite significant in a simple race to 30. Now, since they are playing best 3 out of 5 sets, the significance of those 3 games would be even bigger.

I understand the argument that the fargo ratings for 8 ball on a bar box might not be as relevant, but I don’t think would materially reduce the significance of those 3 games.

Finally, I believe they are playing “take what you make” which should reduce the number of packages. But even if the packages reduced the effective race from 30-27 to 10-9 (implying that every time you win a game you are a lock to win 2 more), Corey would still be a 42% dog per set.

In short, I think the 3 games on the wire is significant.

Of course I have not had a chance to independently calculate the odds, so I am basing the above on the accuracy of the Fargo rate calculator.

That looks like 4 1/4"' to me. Also that table cloth is considerably worn. Was the agreement for new cloth on standard diamond?

The cloth is worn but the gap looks just like my Pro at 4.5”. That old cloth will certainly make the table play tight for someone like me....not for Shaw:wink:

IMO with Shaw being the number 4 ranked player in the world that he would be favorite to win. Bergman is the 26th ranked player. The tighter the table the more it should favor Shaw. He should be grabbing his cue and saying let's play instead of looking for an excuse not to play. If I was Bergman he would never get a chance at any of my money ever again.
