Awww man, this is terrible news. Thanks for dropping in and letting us know, Jennie!

BTW, this is true news, and not a misunderstanding from Facebook or other social media, right?

The person who was taking care of him just called us up this morning on the telephone to inform us of his passing. He was in ICU with family throughout the evening.

Yes, the news is confirmed, sad to say.

Very sad news.. I read an interview he did once about his life starting out playing in Oklahoma, and the first tournament he entered, and won, in San Fransisco at Cochrans in '61. Must have been a show watching those guys on a 5x10 table. I remember one of his quotes even years later:

"No one ever taught me anything, I learned by playing five hundred a game". --Ronnie Allen

Truly sad news. I know ppl can't live forever, but it's always a sad loss when it does happen.

Thanks for stopping by the forum, Jennie.

When I heard that Ronnie was in the hospital in Vegas, I called Artie to ask him if it was true. He said he didn't, but, would call the local hospitals to find out.

He found out what hospital, and went to visit him, this was Sunday. Artie called me back to let me know that Ronnie looked really bad, his lungs, feet and hands were really swollen, plus, he had fallen down and hit his head. Artie thought the way he looked and could hardly speak, that he wouldn't last long!

Artie went to see him on Tuesday, he stated, Ronnie was in even in worse shape, he didn't think he would last through the night, well we all know the rest.

Another truly GREAT player has left the rank n file, his suffering is over now!

R.I.P. Ronnie, Bugs and Grady put your quarter up for the next rack!

Jen,

Last time I saw Ronnie in Vegas was last May at the BCAPL event. He was riding an electric scooter with Tony Rila in tow. We've now lost both. Along with many others, I tried to convince Ronnie to have his memoirs written down or video'd. There are SO many stories lost forever now. Very sad news indeed.

I'm sure of one thing though. As every set of golf clubs he ever left us as collateral was missing the putter, bet he kept one for the great eighteen in the sky!!!!!!!

Lyn, I had to let you know that the visual of that brought a smile to Keith's face just now. :)

He said Tony had five scooters, and he let Ronnie use one of htem. The two of them scooting around the long hallways of those Vegas casinos together must have been a sight to behold, both of them heavy hitters when it came to gambling.

Keith played online poker with Tony every single night, even the night before he passed. I know that Tony and Ronnie are probably up in heaven laughing at all of us right now.

Well, at least that's what Jimmy Reid said. Jimmy has discovered text-to-voice messages, and that's the message Jimmy has just left us after he received news of Ronnie's passing. Jimmy probably said it best in that Ronnie is in a different dimension now and is fine. He said we should not worry about him or feel bad. Always admired Jimmy's positive outlook on everything in life, to include pool.

Thanks again, Lyn, for lifting our spirits today. I cannot tell you how much it helps heal the wounded heart. Maybe Jimmy Reid is right about Ronnie.

Lyn (and all):

Obviously, Fast Lenny's series of interviews with the Great One(TM) don't hold a candle to the idea of Ronnie having actually documented (written a book), but I hope it's one small part of remembrance for him:

Man, as San Jose Dick says on OnePocket.org; it's kind of hard to swallow when that game ball drops!
