160K Stakehorse Challenge!

This could be a terrific tournament, and definitely a reason to check out DCC next year.
I want Shane, you can have Mika

Sent you a PM Mr. Mars. Ty

Yiiiikes. This sounds amazing. Hopefully 2015 will finally be the year I make it to my first Derby.

Keep us posted and great idea!

I've always said that no matter how you feel about gambling and pool, it is the only thing I can see that will save pool for the top players and fans. IMO thjs can help pool in a big way if promoted right. Things like this and legalizing online gambling on pool events. Good luck with the "Stakehorses Race To 9.". Johnnyt

Hear, hear. :)

2015 will be the first time I attend the DCC. I have never been to any major pool event. I have been reading everything on AZ for over a year now and it sounds like an absolute blast. Ideas used at the DCC, like the one in this thread, are genius. If pool is to grow as a sport then these guys are front and center propelling the industry forward. Smart MF'ers, they are....I can hardly wait to book my room. Im already excited about next year. This is how you create a buzz and get people interested!

The only thing discouraging would be you already have SVB & everyone else has everyone else. LoL
I know anyone can beat anyone on any day.
Wishing you Good Luck.

I like the idea, but like you said "Shane is the automatic first pick" in my book and if I was wanting in he'd be my pick! Good luck MarsMan with your Stakehorse match. I hope I can go next year to see how this turns out!

I do not understand the purpose of the 40% of a random player and only 60% of your player. Of course everyone who doesn't stake SVB would love a chance at 40% of him but why anyone else?

It is $20,000 to enter - although $1,000 worth of rooms come free. So each place will pay 60% of 75% to the stakehorse.

1st Place
Player $25,000
Actual stakehorse $45,000
Random stakehorse $30,000

2nd Place
Player $15,000
Actual stakehorse $27,000
Random stakehorse $18,000

Remember that in the above each stakehorse is investing about $19,000 of the money collected. With this format at least 4 bettors will nearly break even but only taking first place pays any better than 2:1 on the money, and you are laying $19,000 to win $7,000 that your player takes second.

Good luck and I hope it really takes off.

This sounds great, and just maybe the shot in the arm that, Pro Pool needs. The worlds's top guns, from all over the planet, playing for gold and glory. A good theme song would be
" The Boys Are Back In Town".

I hope it takes off too, a little too rich for my blood, I'm getting a distinct "small fish in big pond" feeling.
There will be between 2 and 4 winners, not exactly 4, you could in theory win $63.000

Like the Tennis Majors/Rolan Garros/Wimbledon etc.

“COLORADO EXPRESS”

Single elimination:

Five or Ten or?? minute break between sets

Sets….best 3 out of 5….Race to 5 or 6 or 7 or 9 or ?? TBD

Lag for who breaks first set....then alternate breaker/racker

Alternate breaker for each set

Alternate racker for each set

Do this till match ends

Break from Three inch Four inch or?? Head Spot Giant Head Spot Pad

If both players are tied at two sets apiece, tiebreaker (like tennis) in effect. Then lag for break and alternate break with first breaker breaking one rack, then opponent breaks two, and two to other opponent till the end.

Final Match race to 9 Or???….must win by 2 games or first to 11. Or some other length

Finals could be played on two tables, side by side. Have referee rack the second table immediately after first tables rack is completed to speed up breaking of second rack of breakers turn at the table. Alternate breaker for finals only.

24 second shot clock, one 24 second extension allowed per rack

Bathroom break, one per set, Not allowed during opponents inning at table, exceptions….see TD

This would be exciting, especially the finals and give players time to rest/plan and prepare for each round.

You need to clarify the 60% 40% thing a little. The way you have it, it sounds like the backer who lucks into the winning extra horse gets 40% and yet the original backer would end up losing money because he has to pay the player.

Not exactly.

$20K is $20K, $20K is not $19K

If the same better gets #1 and #2, and the other better has #2 and #1 only 2 betters win.

(3 betters can win as well)

It isnt at least 4 win, it is up to 4 betters can win.
