2012 Mosconi Cup U.S. Team members....

It's all nice and well that Johnny made the team, but I think Oscar should have got a shot. This wild card bullshit is ridiculous. They get a wild card in other sports, but it for the next best teams. Not just some guy who has big name. I like Johnny and think he is good for the team, but I still think Oscar got screwed!!!! (I don't know Oscar from Sam BTW) Seems like Oscar had a pretty decent year, and played his way into the top five, in my eyes he earned it.

Jeez guys, I wonder how we can change the image of pool...

best,

I just saw something online saying the team was announced. The team is...Shane Van Boening, Mike Dechaine, Johnny Archer, Dennis Hatch, and Brandon Shuff! I really hope this is true because I think this is a very solid team for the USA!

This is correct, a very strong team imo.

I think Hatch and Shuff should have been replaced by Deuel and Strickland. If not Earl for the high probability he will go "on tilt", then Rodney Morris- he played well with SVB in a team tourney reccently

All these guys break really good, and I'm not a big fan of the "cut break", so hmmm......
.

Hi CJ, congrats and thank-you for representing USA! I realize that many Europeans are going to be dialed in with the 9 on the spot breaking from outside the box. The Americans are certainly at a disadvantage as I would imagine most all of them practice the break differently. I'm sure much time and emphasis will be placed on the break, but we absolutely got crushed last year on it. We didn't have a chance considering how well they were breaking and how poorly we were breaking. I recall them making a ball nearly every time, often making both the one and the wing and extremely rarely violating the 3 ball rule. I know your knowledge far exceeds my own and I realize that not all tables gift wrap the wing ball, but I don't see a way to beat them without cut breaking. Could you please elaborate on why you're not a fan of the cut break? I think it takes away from a superior players advantage when so much rides on the break and the wing goes in like clockwork. I would rather see the better player win than the better breaker and for that reason, I am a fan of breaking from the box -especially in 9-ball. But hey, if they're gonna do it and considering how well they did with it last year, shouldn't we fight fire with fire? And thank-you for posting in the forums and keeping all of us informed.

So you want to see the 2010 team again?? How boring is that?? How bout giving the young guns their chance to prove themselves on the world stage. I love earl and rodneys game but come on already!! This team is plenty strong and has a ton on fire power to rattle the Europe team. I'm predicting the final match score at 11-7!! Mark that shite down!! :grin-devilish:

Posted this in the wrong thread.

I'm pleased with these selections. Team America is highlighted by three twenty-somethings in Van Boening, Dechaine, and Shuff, and rounded out by two elder statesmen of the game in Archer and Hatch. I think it's a nice mix of youth and experience and Team America should have a good shot.

Some were displeased with the Archer pick, but not me. He played rock solid pool at the just-completed US Open 9-ball event, so he's in good form right now. Also, let's not forget that Johnny beat Van Boening in two out of three races to 25 in TAR 26 in May. That might not have earned him any Mosconi Cup ranking points, but I feel it should be weighed in evidence when considering his worthiness. Johnny also beat Van Boening in the US Open 10-ball event.

Good luck to CJ Wiley and Team America in bringing home the Mosconi Cup.

Do I really have to wait six weeks for the event to begin? Geez, that's a real downer.

I tend to agree, Hatch and Shuff game swings from perfect to poor not sure why. What ever i wish the best of luck (they need it)

I personally think there should be one alternate attend for each team in case of illness or emergency. What would happen if one of the players lost a family member or became violently ill?

Came in here to post this. Oscar has been a part of a winning mosconi cup team and has played well in lots of events around the world lately.

So you want to replace solid players for one that will probably go "on tilt"??? That is just stupid.
Deuel may be a good pick, as long as there isn't a golf course near by.

Hatch and Shuff are solid players and will represent our country well.
Go U.S.A!!!

Congrats to CJ and the rest of the team. It is a good team and you should do very well.

However - I must admit that I don't exactly agree with "the process" of team selection....

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but is it not true that an overseas promoter gets to hand pick who THEY want on the AMERICAN team?

That ain't right.

This is a hell of a team. I actually think USA has a fighting chance this year. I think they should lighten the load on SVB. This year will be fun to watch for sure. If Melling gets picked I'll be looking forward to a Melling Vs Shuff match, that's going to be a very entertaining show down.

Don't put me on blast for this comment
It's just how I see it. Why Shuff? I have seen him play more times than I can count. Shuff is a up and coming player IMO I have seen him play great pool but not the caliber of hs teammates . Has he had a great year and won a major that I missed? Well anyway good luck Team USA . Not trying to out Shuff just curious

Euro Team players???

Snipped from Matchroom Sports:

"Only players finishing in the last 32 of each event will be allocated points and at the conclusion, after the 2012 US Open, the top two players will automatically gain entry to the Mosconi Cup side.

The remaining three players will be Matchroom Sport wildcard picks although the ranking will play a part in this.

The Ranking

1. ( - ) Darren Appleton (GBR) - 66
2. ( - ) Nick Van Den Berg (NED) - 65
3. (↑2) Chris Melling (GBR) - 56
T4. (↓1) Oliver Ortmann (GER) - 54
T4. ( - ) Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) - 54
6. (↑2) Dominic Jentsch (GER) - 51
7. (↑5) Albin Ouschan (AUT) - 48
8. (↓2) David Alcaide (ESP) - 47
9. (↓2) Mark Gray (GBR) - 46
10. (↓1) Bruno Muratore (ITA) - 45
11. (↑5) Dimitri Jungo (SUI) - 40
T12. (↓2) Ralf Souquet (GER) - 38
T12. ( - ) Daryl Peach (GBR) - 38
T14. (↓3) Niels Feijen (NED) - 36
T14. (↑2) Artem Koshovyi (UKR) - 36"

Daz and VDB are in for sure. Then there's 3 wildcard picks. I think Melling is a lock for one. Then I'd imagine Ortmann. The 5th pick is really a speculation. There's a ton of great players to choose from: Alcaide, Gray, Souquet, Peach and Neils among them.

If the 4 I chose are in, then perhaps Alcaide gets the nod so Matchroom can get a a larger Spanish audience. Cause all the other guys I mentioned are from countries already represented.

When do they announce the Euro team?

Perhaps they should consider picking a form horse.

Everyone has their favorite players and the players whom they believe will make the best Mosconi Cup Team.

Shane, Brandon, Dennis, Johnny, and Mike Dechaine are a great combination of youth, experience and talent.

If you had been at the New Iberia, LA tournament that Emerald Billiards put on recently and saw the major comeback that Johnny put on Shane, NO ONE would say that Johnny doesn't belong on this Mosconi Cup Team.

In my opinion, Johnny Archer is SUPER SOLID and despite my desire to see up and coming young talent like Landon Shuffett take part in this event for reasons that I have already shared, this is going to be a GREAT team for CJ to Captain. Besides 60% of the USA Mosconi Cup Team is YOUNG SUPER TALENT!With CJ's stewardship, the European Mosconi Cup Team had better get to practicing.

I might also mention that Chris Bartram is not to be overlooked in the future for the Mosconi Cup Team. While Chris has made his way in the pool world as an action journeyman, he has shown extraordinary resolve in tournament play.

Oscar "Ozzieman" Dominguez has been mentioned for consideration as he should be.

Justin Hall, in the future, if he continues his dominance in tournament play should be a consideration as well.

And if the current USA Team prevails as many of us hope and expect, I don't see the need for any changes unless it is for the television viewing benefit, providing the players continue to excel throughout 2013.

THIS WILL BE ONE OF THE MOST WATCHED Mosconi Cup events to date.
