2023 World Pool Championship, Kielce, Poland

I just saw Billy Thorpe's match against a Vietnamese pro Nguyen Tuan in progress, and the Vietnamese pro pushed out. He didn't say "push out," and the referee called a foul, giving Billy ball in hand. Billy won the frame but then had a dry break. It's now 7-5. Referees are on the ball here.

I had wrongly through that all nineball events were standardized. Any idea why there is no shot clock for the streaming tables in this tournament?

Someone might correct me, but Candela's play might be the slowest ever recorded on video for a rotation game. It an (unwatchable) masterclass in sharking Shaw. I liked his move where he would get down on his shot, get up, slowly walk over to his chair, walk back and get down on his shot again, and then get up again to waddle to his chair to do nothing.

I think I could only get halfway through that act before someone cracked my skull open.

Got torched playing him some 10Ball a few weeks back in town, I was star-struck playing him and didnt rep my game well, but he was real cool and made a new fan in me for sure! He missed one ball the whole time we played. I did win that game though

shot clock will be used in later stages. imo the ref in that match should have warned candela

He chose not to go. Too far and too expensive for a single tourney. He is doing well in the improved pool scene at home in the Philippines, with more tournaments and nightly cash games. All the young guns want to test him.

We had a discussion about going and his response was too many good players who all can win at 9-Ball. He needs to make the final eight to make even small money. It was just not worth it compared to the opportunities he had close to home.

We are currently in talks to open Robocop Billiards in Quezon City. I’m heading to Manila next week to check out a prospective location.

Glad to hear he is doing well in the Philippines.

Hope he can make it back to the US before the original 5 year ban that was mentioned.

I don't think they are hotel chairs. They look pretty fancy. I think MR specifically bought them for the player's chairs. There must be European Player's chairs available for a decent price.
 
Neither Thorpe nor Tuan deserve to advance. That match was painful to watch.
One of the worst pro matches I have ever watched.
It can't be the pressure since they are not on the main table and there are not many if any fans around.
It was just bad pool from shot selection to shot execution.
 
I can’t believe this, Alex and Filler draw each other for tomorrow

Do we know the full rules for the break? They seem to be (edited twice):

winner breaks
9 on the spot
template
random order
break from the box (about 8 inches or 20cm to either side of the long string) -- "base of the ball"
"you gotta hit 'em nice and hard" or else!

(The exact width of the break box is 20000/1259 inches, as it is defined by lines on the table that include the locations of the head-rail diamonds. That's about 15.8856 inches.)

I'm not so sure it's a wise decision to not attend a Marchroom event at this point, when they could be on the verge of something big. If anything the aging pros may only get one more shot at the big time.
 
Good showing for USA. The best in many years. Five guys through to final 64. Shane, Oscar, Wolford, Hunter and Tyler. Now let’s see how many get through the first round of SE.

- box about 20 cm (a bit under 8") to either side of the long string (I haven't heard any knowledgeable statement on this, I've just measured from the screen)
