A look inside Efren Reyes' house

Thanks for sharing the video. It's a neat look into the private life of the Magician.

Not quite dirt floors & thatched roof I envisioned when Earl berated the DCC crowd for "rooting for a guy that lives in a hut in the jungle".

Interviewer- What's the most you've won in one game.
Efren- Largest prize 500,000
Interviewer- Pesos
Efren- Dollars
Interviewer- $500,000

Love it! I am only able to catch a few words here and there. But the end I understood just fine!
Thanks for sharing.

Not quite. The first display rack had his old trophies before he became a pro ( 1983 he said ).
Some highlight material:
He said he started playing and gambling when he was 8 yrs old. By the time he was 10 yrs old, backers started picking him up from school. He'd all night and they'd take him back to school. He slept during school hours ( they called him Sleeping for that ).
He sold/rented comic books for some 90 pesos a month but he said he was making that on one match in pool. Guess which gig he stuck with ?
Thanks for link Kid.

Here's the gist of the interview..

I didn't translate the portion where the other guy was talking. But here are the parts where efren spoke and the interviewer:

Q:How old were you when you started playing?
Efren: I started playing 8. But I started gambling around 12.

Q: GOod thing your parents let you?
Efren:Hey don't know. I would sneak out to play. Because I go straight to play right after school.

Q: So you basically grew up playing?
Efren: Of course! I basically slept on top of the tables. When people came to play, I just moved under the tables to sleep.

Q:So thats where you grew up and thats where you learned to play and it became your profession?
Efren : Yes of course!

EFREN ON TROPHIES:
Here I got these trophies from all over the place. But a lot of them are from the Philippines. This one is new. This TV I also won it and now we watch my matches on this TV.
WHen I started playing and when I started winning trophies was around 1976. I became professional in 1983. These trophies even though I had many, I still wasn't famous because at the time billiards (pool) was still not as popular.

AT THE DINING TABLE:
Here in my dining, this is where we usually get together. When there are visitors, this is where we get together.

Q: At what point did you become "big time"? In your estimation?
Efren:WHen I got a manger! He took me around.

Q: Oh so you had a manager? Oh so he set you up in matches?! Thats how it works!
Efren :Yes of course
Because I go to school up from 6 am to 3 PM. After 3 PM they meet me outside school and take me to play until next morning.

Q: Straight? No sleep? What about next morning what about school?
Efren:Yes straight to the They just drop me off to school the next day!

Q: So how do you sleep?
Efren: I slept at school. They used to call me "Sleepy" at school haha!

Q: Oh no wonder! So how far did you get in school?
Efren:I got up to second year only (highschool Sophomore)

Q: What is the biggest prize you won from playing?
Efren: It was in 2006 that was the biggest

Q: Was it here at home or abroad?
Efren: That was abroad at Reno Nevada. It was for the world 8 ball for the IPT. My prize there was 500,00

Q:Pesos?
Efren: Dollars.

Q:500,000 dollars?!?!?!
Efren: Yup that was my biggest prize.
