ABR Special Report - French Press Conference

For more than 20 years now I have helped and supported many world class players to play in big tournaments. Plenty of times I have taken nothing but on the occasions that I have made money the deal was that I took care of travel, hotel and entry fees.
These were deducted from any winnings and the balance was split 50/50 with the player with no contract, only a handshake.
But if anyone decided hat they should have a right to know what our arrangement was I would have told them to mind their own f******* business.

Forum frequentees do not have a Divine Right to Full Disclosure unless those involved agree to do so.

These pseudo challenge matches are almost at the end of their lifespan specially now that people can no longer be sure that they are genuine.

Tap, tap, tap!

I think for anyone to say that he was promoting a fake match would imply that he knew it was fake since the beginning and continued to promote it. No one knows when he knew, if he knew, and what he tried to do about it except Al and some people who were actually involved in this debacle. And without actual information we're all just speculating.

Sure, it'll be nice if he came on here and told his side of the story but I don't think he as an obligation to do so as so many seem to think. And there's so many people screaming for his head for this one mistake when all he's done previously was promote pool positively.

I think, like everyone involved, he got into a bad business dealing with John French. It's my understanding that on the FREE NAPL stream he had over this weekend he mentioned that he also is out money that he cannot recoup from the cancelation of the DO/SVB match or with his dealing with John French.

Maybe he got scammed too. Who knows? That's my point.

Loud tap, tap, tap!

Tap Tap Tap Huh? Yes let's by all means keep the good old days with saves, fixes, and dumps & chops were the rule of the day. I get a kick out of people on here that scream, "Clean up pool", and when a friend or someone in the industry that they might get a few but's from is dirty. Then it's better to sweep it under the rug. Johnnyt

I suppose its possible Al didnt know what was going on. I just find it a little hard to believe since I knew what was going on two thousand miles away before the match ended. Its difficult for me to believe a guy sitting twenty feet from the table didnt have the same line I did.

All he had to do was say "There are backer problems so to save the match this is what we are doing. Anyone who would like a refund please contact me. Now on to the match."

Thats it.

But instead its been deleting posts and now the turtle routine. Its a shame because Al does do a lot for the game. The whole "I was just a streamer I didnt know" does not pass the smell test though.

while he promoted the events he didn't put the event on. he didn't get the two players together, he didn't decide on the amount, etc. the match was negotiated and he was brought in to provide streaming for the match because there's not a lot of people who do it.

in the middle of providing this service, and again we're all speculating here, he found out the match isn't for as much as advertised. what should he do now?

he was hired to do a job...walk away from the job in the middle of it and lose out on his expenses? inform everyone and probably not get paid and lose out on his expenses again? sure his integrity will be intact, and all these guys on azb will respect him, but that's not paying his bills. what to do?

is it still a good match between two top players? are they still playing hard? are people still enjoying the stream and the product? what to do?

the point i'm trying to make is that it's not a black and white situation. making these calls in hindsight are easy. sitting here and writing about these events and what he should've done, the integrity of the stream, etc. that's easy too. when that shit's going down and you're in it and you gotta make that call...that ain't too easy.

Upstate Al has provided quality pool streams for a while now, both free and ppv. i'm okay giving him the benefit of the doubt because i like pool and i like to watch it. i'm not going to say i'm not going to buy the next ppv unless i get answers because, in the end, that's only going to have him stop providing streams and that hurts everyone.

Was the match ever suppose to be for 10? Did Ko really only show up with 2500? Or was it always just an exhibition?

That would depend what his integrity is worth to him.

If the story were true that Ko only showed with 2500 and they altered the bet because of that then tbere would be no problem telling the viewers. Steinway is not going to fire him for telling. He doesnt have to walk from the job. No lost pay or expenses. No problem at all. Which makes me wonder if it was ever really for 10 in the first place.

I feel bad for you that your pool memories are tainted with such a large amount of negativity.

My pool memories of the "good old days" consist of a lot of cool happenings. They weren't all bad. In fact, thanks to the advent of digital technology, i.e., the Internet, the youth of today can never appreciate what we -- what I experienced. And that's okay. There are new memories to be made, but I will not stereotype the "good old days" in pool the way some do on this forum, THANK GOD!

The final day of the SVB/DO match would've been on Feb 14th...Valentines day. Think of all the relationships JF may have saved.

I would hope that's not true. You have to wonder if the other streamers in the industry are going to take a beating over this with their numbers. I know its soured me on certain streams i will support until the air is cleared. And it won't just be Steinway's and Al's. If these guys are misleading us to pump their numbers i would be better off just watching wrestling. At least they are honest about their product being fake.

:clapping:

So true.
I already had plans on bringing the laptop right into the dog house and watch out there to preempt the inevitable.

From a guy that most of his streams are free, this (your first paragraph) is what people are using as a defense of what transpired here? Try again.

'Merica is a very forgiving place. You could create another whole 300 post thread giving examples. If Al had knowledge - and I for one can't believe he didn't - than just say he got caught up in the hoopla and shenanigans of JF and next time I'll be more careful.

I don't know upstate personally but I'd have a hard time believing he ran a hustle like this. His mistake was falling for French's stuff.

Did French actually show up at DCC and take Orcollo's room away from him? Does anybody know French's background?

I agree, just say something. Even if its "I too got wrapped up with JF chaos, it got away from me, I assure I have learned something"

I would have no issues with this response and be happy to support him.

Going quiet and removing your last login date, is not the approach when you run a business.

really easy to say that now and, again, I was speculating. I don't know what happened. no one really knows what happened - when he knew, if he knew, etc. - except Al I guess.

In the end, did he deliver on what he was paid to do? Did we all not see a good match between two world class players?

If it is for sale, then it is not integrity.

He was selling something. That something is not what he said it was. If you are cool with that good on you. I'm not.

Its pretty funny being told how hard it is to make a call on a stream. I've been in the middle of more bullshit than Al has ever thought about. I managed to come out of it without lying to customers. It doesnt really matter in the end though. This whole clusterfvck is about at the end of its lifespan. In a month most people will have no memory of it and certain people will be free to continue selling the dream.

I don't see him as the person selling something. To me, that person was John French. He organized it, etc. That's the person I'm holding accountable for this b.s.

And, yeah, hopefully it'll all go away and no one needs to ever mention John French again.
