Alex Pagulayan vs Dippy for $20K This Thursday. Watch it LIVE on TAR

Who was the guy doing commentary with Justin in the later stages of the match? I thought he was very good, but so is Justin. Live streaming of pool matches has created a whole crew of talented commentators. These matches are like an underground art form. This may be where live pool finally catches on. The answer could be staring us right in the face. This is becoming a "main stream" internet sport, maybe the first!

The other guy with Justin was AZ Forum member 'Spanky79' and yes I have to agree he was really good and impressed me as well. It seems some people are just natural at it

I completely agree.

Aside from making some nice banks from time to time, Dippy's shooting was very unimpressive. Maybe he was sandbagging, laying the bait for his next potential victim.

Alex, despite having a little difficulty with some of the short banks, played real strong. He is a pleasure to watch.

Thanks, TAR, for the stream.

Best,
Brian kc

Game not there. Tries to out gamble. You won't be around long...setting traps that snap on your own foot.

Let's not forget.... he's getting 18 to 4! There's a reason for that spot. It's because he can't play very well.

If someone told me they were giving another person 18-4, without ever seeing that person play, I would think they would

1. miss easy shots at any given time - nothing is a guaranteed
2. go for crazy shots that sell out at any given time
3. not very good cueball control when moving, therefore selling out a lot
4. not have a lot of patience... after a couple of bunts back and forth, they're going for something
5. they know the general idea of what to do, but can't execute most of the time
6. I would expect them to make some spectacular shots every now and then, to run their 4 balls every now and then and to make some good banks or good takeouts every now and then.
7. when he has a good shot at running his 4 balls, there will be a lot of 1 and stops, because he will get out of line and have to go on the defense.

Dippy is not going to outmove Alex and he can't wait for Alex to make a mistake before firing at his hole. He has to take some chances and there will be balls ran by Alex when he fails to capitalize on those chances.

I'm sure Dippy played a little different with it being streamed. Depending on his motives, he either wanted to show off his skills to impress, or show off his non-skills to impress:D

Either way, it was a glimpse into a outrageous spot and how that is played out by either player.

Excellent post!! You made some very good points.

Hi Red;

My comments, more or less, were based upon the fact that Dippy beat Alex last time they met with the same spot and, also, that there has been some chatter recently that Dippy's game has elevated some since he's been playing more frequently.

I never kidded myself into thinking that anyone needing an 18-4 spot could be a very good pool player but there were expectations that Dippy could hang in for at least a little while. No matter how you slice it, that's a whole lotta nuts to outrun and, even with that enormous spot, Dippy was never even a remote threat to Alex.

So, basically, Dippy didn't show up for this match.

But at least his chips did.

Best,

Well, no one can say Dippy doesn't have gamble but ....damn, he's just giving it away! I guess when you play with large sums of money allot (in poker & pool) what Dippy did probably didn't seem to crazy to him. I would love to have of had a piece of that action...............................

Dippy didn't get a free scratch this time, also he just had surgery...

Dippy had his share of terrible shots, but I honestly didn't expect him to know the game and move/kick as well as he did for a guy getting 18-4. All those easy hangers he missed before Alex settled in hurt him a lot ;) I may be taking Dippy in the near future.

You do know that Alex got a little ass whoopin last time they played, right?

You got a piece then...pay up.

Something I didn't think of...

The Dipster has improved with all that time in action...
But so has Alex.
He hasn't had enough 1-pocket experience so he is getting better.

Told him in his early 20's he was gonna flower in his mid 30's.
Couple more years you can say hello to the new Reyes.

Only thing he'll be over-cutting is the cards....

always a chance, right?

That's the beauty of 18-4, the underdog always thinks he has a chance. But we all know he doesn't. The man giving the spot knows what is too much, obviously it isn't. Alex loses only if he plays badly, dipper can't play good enough to beat Alex's best game.

Shows what I know. I picked the wrong side again! Who was the guy doing commentary with Justin in the later stages of the match? I thought he was very good, but so is Justin. Its gorilla stuff to be sure and TAR is a big-time pioneer.

Kevin

Last night they played with the break rule that if you made a ball on the break you couldn't keep shooting (maybe this only applied to Dip). Know if they played with this rule the last few times they matched up? Pretty good for Alex to throw that in there with Dip only needing 4 balls.

I'm thinking he meant guerilla, not gorilla. I'm a pretty big guy, but I wouldn't be calling Justin a gorilla.

Johnny

Johnny

Is it guerrilla ?..like guerrilla theater ?

I'll bet you are right, I'm going to Google.

But yeah that's how I meant it, grass roots stuff, basic without the hype and polish.

Thanks

Kevin

PS: Of course, what was I thinking?

Alex lost the second set. Just spoke to him in Vegas. He's the greatest! What a personality. :thumbup2:
