An Over Looked Part of The Game

How many times have I heard that the break is the most important part of the game.......

The break IS very important in rotation and 8-ball games, but if you can't control the QB to play good postion to runout...it won't be enough at the higher levels. Johnnyt

Hmm......

Cleaning shaft and balls? NO

Buying a lotto ticket to offset loses? Maybe

Paying your bar tab so they'll let you come back?

The most imortant thing... Living to play another day

without that nothing else matters

Depending on where you play this can be easy or hard

ArmorAll

I think the single most important thing you can do to increase your chances of winning is covering the cueball with ArmorAll.

Sportsmanship

After ArmorAll, which really is the same thing Chris said re cue ball control, with the added benefit that your opponent cannot control it, I go for Sportsmanship, a la Jonathan Hennessee.

Critical self evaluation. Way too often people tend to blame a poor shot or loss on a bad roll or bad luck. If they continue to look at it as bad luck they are missing some of the best opportunities to improve their games. Instead of thinking that was bad luck, they should be thinking how could I have played that differently to get a better result.

I have seen players get stuck at the same level for years because they already felt they knew everything so anything less than acceptable execution was because of bad luck or someone three tables over distracting them

Remembering to breathe to reset your nerves and calm yourself of whatever is on your mind to help focus with a reasonable playing pace.

My other choice is forgiving your own mistakes and moving past them.

Answer

I have an answer and I am sure it is the right one, but I will let you guess what it is, and maybe someday, I will come back and tell you what it is...
