As i write this i am doing so with a very heavy heart and i know it should be in the NPR section. So please allow and forgive me for putting it here.

As alot of people on here already know my beautiful and wonderful wife and best friend for the last 32 years has been very ill. Well this past Saturday we had her taken by ambulance back to Albany Medical Center Hospital because of problems breathing. We thought that she had a bad cold or maybe bronchitis at worst. We have since learned that she has had a total right lung collapse. Right now she is on a Bi-pap machine and undergoes respritory therapy every 4 hours that involves tapping on her back to try to loosen up the mucas. The Doctors feel that there in no sense putting an NG tube in and going in afterward to try to correct any problems, given that her underlying problems are what are causing the breathing problems in the 1st place. They feel that her neuromuscular diseases have invaded her lungs. We also made a discovery that since last January 2007 she has had a partial collapse of the same lung. I am saying my prayers every night with her and for her which ever way it turns out. Sometimes i cannot but help thinking that her passing would be a blessing in disguise but then again i do not want to lose her. But i also have to face the realization that that day is coming. So in closing, could who ever reads this please say a little prayer for her......thanks again for letting me post this on here.................mike

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife Mike, I hope things work out for both of you. I went through a similar situation with my mother a little over two years ago. I was faced with making life and death decisions about her health care, and she did not pull through. Thank god I was completely aware of what she wanted, and I followed her requests. However, I still have feelings sometimes that something may have changed and she may still be here. But, I have come to a recent realization about my feelings, they are wrong. Because my feeling were based on what I wanted without considering the cost through pain she would have paid. The decisions I made have effected me profoundly and I am certainly a different person today because of them. Finally I realize that to make decisions for another, you can not be selfish, and you must completely put yourself in the other person place to see this clearly. Sometimes what we do in situations where our decisions concern the loss of some one dear is refuse to admit that this is what they want, and the selfish side that we all have has comes to the surface.

I wish you both the best!!!!!!!

Mike,

I will offer a prayer tonight for both you and your wife. There will be many more prayers from people on this forum that will be given to you two. God bless y'all and I hope it all comes out alright!!!

I've been following your situation since you initially posted about your wifes condition and I just want to say what you are doing for her takes a lot of courage and I respect that immensely. Your wife is lucky to have someone like you in her life. We are always here for you. Take care buddy and be strong.

Mike,

I'll send up a prayer for both of you - and I will add in that I have admired you for the love and patience you have exercised throughout this trying time towards everybody - not just your wife. You are a special person, and a husband/friend that all of us should emulate - someone that all of us could learn a lesson from by observing your heartfelt generosity, kindness, and understanding within the midst of the storm. We all love you very much - if you need more than prayers - just ask.

David
