**BARRY SZAMBOTI**New**SHOULD THIS GET CHALKED

Steve,
I vote play with it, but carefully! I play with all mine. This is one of the BEST I HAVE SEEN! Ron

hey

I thank everyone for all the kind words on this Barry cue. I will treasure it

Here are pics of my three Barry Szamboti cues together. Right now they are all unplayed

So then.... why did you order them??? Just seems like a waste of a LOT of money to me.

She is a beauty

I would use it sparingly, but I would use it. Thanks for posting these cues... I was starting to miss seeing pictures from your collection.

Steve,

What a masterpiece...you are right some cues are work of arts and some are as a player cue. However, Szamboti's legacy that all of his cue has to be played :) ..congratulations again ;)

If you can afford Too..

If you can afford to do it..LoL I would have two more shafts made for it, set the original two aside, and play without concern. my buddy Burt Kellerman used to buy his cues with two shafts he would use one to enjoy the fine cue with and keep one unchalked. he really got to enjoy his toys that way.
Burt is dead and gone, But I bet he's glad he got to play with all those kick ass cues!
R.I.P Burt.

... I have waffled on this, saying I will be playing with it..........but I just cant do it. Check it out and tell me what you think.

Of course you're going to hit some balls with it -- and with these original shafts, not others.

1. Any wear or damage from use is repairable.

2. If you or your heirs sell it at some future date, would having it unused at that point be of any financial significance to you or them?

3. Would the maker (or his father) be more pleased to have you use it or just show it occasionally as art work?

4. The butt diameter is 1.21". That's smaller than typical for Szamboti's. So you ordered it that size to fit you in use, right?

5. Does Jay Leno drive his cars?

6. Do Stradivarius instruments get played?

I think you're just teasing us.

That's an extraordinary cue. Just beautiful! If it were me I'd play with it, occasionally and carefully, but it's just too great a weapon to stay a virgin!

Why have Barry use 22 year old shaft wood from his Dad, if never to hit a ball? "New" shaft wood could have been used and the "art" of the cue would be the same. I own a Barry as well and he personally told me to play with it and he could fix anything I did to it. That being said, I occasionally hit balls with my high end cues in my home or my friends home, not in a pool hall so no worries about theft of someone carelessly banging it, ect. I think its better for the cue to see some play once every few months or so. I think its important they don't sit in the exact same position in a case forever. Its always such a joy to hit a few balls with some different exotic cues, like enjoying a fine wine. I always hit with both shafts initially to identify a favorite then usually only use that one and preserve the other. If you ever decide to sell the cue shouldn't you be able to at least describe the hit? If you are going to keep it forever, are you preserving it for the next owner? Sure, keep it "low miles" and "like new" but part of the "Art" is the playability. Experience the cue.

BTW, I really love this cue and all of your collection. I get excited when I log on to AZ and see you have a new post. Thank you for sharing.

Brian

Play with that thing like you're living your last day on earth.
Beautiful cue. Play with them all, man.

If resale profit is your goal, don't play it. But that cue looks like a high end player that wants to be played. So I would probably at least play one shaft if it were mine and keep another shaft unplayed.

I don't think there's any cue that you should just hang on your wall like a piece of art - all cues should be played with, and if they don't hit well, who cares how fancy they are? If you don't hit with them, they're just art-sticks.

Imagine yourself on your deathbed.

Are you *REALLY* going to be saying "WHY? WHYWHY WHHHYYYY Did I play with that BZ? WHAT WAS I THINKING??????????"

lol - If you are, then I would say your buying a class of cues you can't afford. (no offeense)

I think the reality is you would probably spend your dying moments wishing you had been nicer to your family (Is there ever nice enough?) and played the @#%# out of your BZ collection, which you are probably going to will to someone anyway?

Another way to look at it:

Your dead and gone. Some day that cue ends up in the hands of some uber-rich *****. You know he is going to bust that cherry. Are you going to let him do that to you?

Could not have said it any better than AtLarge! These cues were meant to be played!!!
