best in canada

I think Tyler should be mentioned, he's an all around strong player for sure.

Go Canada eh?
:)

Interesting to note that all these champion Canadian players...Tourangeau, Tyler Edie, Edwin Montal, Kevin Cardinal...all come down to little Bozeman, MT to play in a little $50 entry barbox tournament every Thanksgiving weekend! Sometimes they win...sometimes they don't...but it's a great tournament. I might just be there this year.

Bernie Mikkelsen from what i've heard , but i was still in diapers when he was in his prime ,so i wouldn't know his top speed.

He was insanely good in the mid-90's. At that time noone in Canada really wanted any of him. Bernie at his peak was IMO a hair above the best of Canada today. But back then Even Bernie went second in calcuttas when Dan Louie showed up. That guy won every tournament in the NW for about a friggin decade. Boring to watch but I dont think he ever missed a shot in my time watching him in person.

You got it BB. That is who I was thinking of. Maybe not the best but very formidable just the same.
Thanks.

Stan Tourangeau is who I was thinking of

Stan's not too shaby.. Lost to him 7-3 the one time i played him and had no idea who he was until later. I thought he was a chump till he put a 3 pack on me

Very nice guy aswell

Who do you think is the best all round pool player in canada

Is Simon Pickering Canadian , saw him playing 8 ball against SVB , he looked pretty good . When CJ Wiley and his partners had Champs on Gaston in Dallas a Canadian named Paul Potier worked there , think he was a Canadian snooker champ at one time , is he still playing ?

Not yet. He's promising, but not there yet.

I believe he will get there, I know him pretty good and if he dosent screw up he will get there. And I dont think he will screw up. He is a good friend and serious about being the best player he can be.

He might be the "best player" in Calgary, but not in Canada.

When Edwin was actually playing pool about 3-4 years ago in the Canadian 9-ball tour that Jim Wych set up he proved pretty clearly that he was very possibly the best in Canada. He won way more then his share of the events against fields full of the best players in Canada.

And in the last month he put up a 10k challenge to Morra straight up 10-ball, race to 100. The only condition was Morra come to Calgary, which seemed fair since Morra has been playing serios pool in the USA in big matches and Edwin has been 9/10ths retired and playing poker.

Truth be told you have proven by your posts on this forum you know very little about the pool scene or the players "Calgaryplayer". You would not know how good Edwin actually is or how good the others that might be in the running would be either.

Any of the top players at full speed are going to be tough to beat but I must say that I was playing in many of those tour events when Edwin was dominant and there was a reason he was crushing the fields. He just brought an all new level that very few players had a chance to keep up with.

Another guy who played fantastic and never seemed to crack was Brady Gollan.

I've had the chance to play just about everyone in western canada at one tournament or another and the two guys who impressed me most were always Bill Ganne and Bernie Mikkelsen in their primes though. I had the misfortune of having Bill put a 10 pack on me in one tourney and a month later Bernie hit me with a 9 pack, both of them ran out sets that I was leading.

1) Jason Klatt (Ive said this for a while)
2) John Morra

Im not sure who I would put as number 3 but its not Tyler or Edwin.
Other players who probably make the top 10.
Chris Orme
Erik Hjorleifson
Tyler Edey
Edwin Montal
Alain Martel
Raymond Cruz

For the record, Im the second worst. I taught my wife how to play but I taught her how to play with her wrong hand just so I would have someone I could beat some of the time.

Agree! Jason is #1 now.

Bernie ran into Ramil Gallego in L.A. on his first trip over from the Philippines. He got a pool lesson he will never forget!

How bout old jumpin joe lawrence...I remember he had a pretty strong gear..He was telling me one time years ago how he tortured Mark Jarvis when Mark was in his prime...was a funny story how he told it...I heard him talking bout their match and i said man you must have not missed a ball..I watched Mark practice banking and he mighta only missed 2 banks in about a hour...Joe says...Man that Mark banks like God..never misses a bank...it's unbelievable...But it's kinda hard to bank when you froze behind the 2.

No mention of Danny Hewitt? He destroyed Edwin at the first Stan James event that Jim Wych hosted. Jerry Forsyth was there watching the match. Danny also won a 10 ball open event in Vegas against the likes of Bustamante and some other "names". Is Danny not playing anymore?
