You only get to pick 1 favorite vin, Yang (16-1) and Effie (14-1) are both
favorites. Earl (33-1) is a good dark horse though. So, who's your long shot?

Wow... Don't want to get invovled because they have a statistical advantage, and I don't know enough about the players at this moment (how they've been playing, how the feel, etc)....

Now, if this was a One Pocket event, I'd take Efren and GIVE odds.

this is a tough one... efren will always be the favorite, but i will pick yang since i think he is having a really good year ;)

It is amazing how many people don't understand

1) Favorite most like to win
2) Dark Horse Not likely to win, but has a chance
3) Long Shot Will only win on a very slim chance

1) Francisco Bustamante (14/1)
2) Thorsten Hohmann (33/1)
3) Mike Davis (150/1)

Just my pix.

A little birdie told me who Stan James used as a one-time consultant when handicapping for odds on the WPC! :D

Suffice it to say that some of these odds look like they may have come from the European point of view.

As such, a lot of those odds seem like they're not quite where they should be, IMHO.

Maybe Stan James would be better off consulting AzBilliards vBookie who seems to be a better handicapper than whoever Stan James is using.

My favorites would be a tie: Alex Pagulayan, who now got a little killer instinct because of the recent BSCP injustice, and Ralf Souquet, who came so close last year and may want this win more than any other player in the tournament.

My dark horse or long shot would be Edwin Montal.

As an aside, there are quite a few names on that list that I have never heard of before! :o

JAM

My bet will be ROBERTO GOMEZ from Philippines, with 50/1. (But he needs to qualify first, though)

I think he will be a world champion sometimes in the future. Keep your eyes open for this player!

I also see Norwegian Roger Lysholm on the list, but he ain't playing this year ;)

Ronnie O'Sullivan is listed with 250/1. Will he play or is this just a trick from the bookies to get bets on a famous cueartist? ;)

Favorite: Reyes, Efren --- 14/1
Dark Horse: Van Boening, Shane --- 40/1
Long Shot: Schmidt, Michael --- 175/1
:p

stan james should fire their odds maker before he causes them to go bust!!!

Over in another thread, there is a discussion about there being fewer good players today. Looking at the players who didn't make it into the top 10 on this list is a good argument against that. (But maybe the OP in that other thread was referring to his local pool hall which has become infested with leagues, dates and parties to the exclusion of the action players.)

In any case, my long-shot money is on O'Sullivan if he plays, favorite = Wu (he has to have gotten better, right?) and dark horse = Archer.

Yes JAM obviously different form students and handicappers take different views of all sports and there's no secret about who has advised Stan James on pool odds in the past, but the last thing anyone should want to do is give Stan James hints re where they might have got it wrong:)

If betting at this stage the punter should just take the odds SJ are presently offering on any player whose chances they fancy and who in the punters opinion SJ have on their list "too long" and bet on anyone the punter thinks SJ have "too short" with any other firm offering better odds in due course;)

I say "if betting" because, for the record, on a quick calculation this 160% betting percentage book demonstrates appalling overall value and is so heavily 'over-round' in the bookmakers favour that it would do justice to having been compiled by Ebeneezer Scrooge. The wisdom of any bet at all is therefore highly suspect.

Providing they can attract a reasonable spread of bets SJ are highly unlikely to lose on this book which is grossly 'over-round' in their favour.

Kevin Trudeau is more likely to be appointed as your local friendly bank manager than Stan James Bookmaking Group is to go bust;)
