(Anti-trust legalities aside) Wouldn't this just open the door for other promoters to just say to the top players, "Those guys don't want you in their event come play in ours". Telling a top player that you're not playing next year because you missed this year is pretty much cutting off your nose to spite your face. Most businesses don't do that. My guess is that if BB fails life in the pool world will be business as usual.

I agree with the nose/face thing. My example is based on people getting pissed off. When people are angry or feel threatened noses and faces can become separated.

As stated before I think its a bad idea.

Managing that many players for six months is a unique dynamic that has me fascinated. I have an opinion of how it will go but I have been wrong before.

Does your opinion look something like this:

I haven't really paid attention to the previous Bonus Ball threads, so sorry if it's been asked already.

Did all of the pros participating in this league relocate to Vegas, or do they fly in for the matches each week? Is there a schedule posted somewhere, or is it just week 1 that has been set?

All they need to do is hire hot babes and other YOUNG 'beautiful people' to sit ringside and look interested plus rent some time on a third rate Cable Channel, lie about the ratings and it will TAKE OFF!!

Cant miss Im sure of it.

And dont think these ideas came from a lame-o like me. This was inside info i was able to obtain from a BILLIONAIRE!!

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I believe that Nathan has put his heart and soul into this BB venture. As well, he has probably, like some other so-called "industry members," invested a lot of his time and sacrificed some things to make this happen.

As such, he posts in defense of what he believes. Nothing wrong with that. I hope he realizes that when you have AzBilliards clique(s) taking turns at posting verbal kamikazes from everywhere, it's a no-win situation to reply. You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.

I am reminded of my dear old father who took his bar exam. A group of his law school buddies studied together for days. After the grueling exam, they each came out and asked each other how they answered such-and-such question. When my dad gave his answers, several of them replied, "Oh, Joe, you're not going to pass. You answered all of those questions wrong." Well, as it turned out, my dad passed, and a couple of those Debbie Downers, his buddies, did not pass. ;)

In this regard, I think Nathan believes BB is going to pass with flying colors after it launches. I hope he enjoys the BB ride for a long time to come and proves every single one of the Nervous Nellies, Debbie Downers, and naysayers, including myself, wrong. :p

Don't let the forum beat you up, Nathan. People will always express their opinions. It's easy to pick out the warts and flaws. As long as you follow through, that's the best you can do. I wish you good luck! :)

Thank you Jam.

In all honesty, as an employee, there are elements that are out of my control. As such, I realize that it's unrealistic to conclude with certainty that the WPBL will succeed.

I do know however that Dave and I have done everything possible to sort out the mess that was, prepare numerous innovations that we hope will help the game catch up to other professional sports (live stats, replays, etc), and alter the business model to something completely outside the box from what has been tried in pool thus far (contrary to assumption, it's not the silly PPV model).

In the end, the product that we're about to release is much different than what people suspect, but you're absolutely right when you say that I believe in it 100%. We can't please everyone, but I do expect to surprise many.

Only time will tell. In the meantime, I'll keep pushing forward. :)

Reading this, I have to ask : Why not making the game more popular by streaming it for free if the PPV model is silly ?

It would bring way more viewers and better coverage for the players and the potential sponsors.

The Thursday night matches are all free. Plus it will be free to watch on TV (depending on what country youre in), although the TV broadcasts will be delayed.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention the weekly highlight, recap, and behind the scenes show that will also be free each week.

I read already about the thursday matches, I thought it was a good idea; A mix of free and PPV makes a lot of sense, that's what TAR does and it probably triggers more than a few buys.

What I was asking is, why rely at all on the PPV model if it's not the core of the business? So from what I get, you're still counting on some revenue from it. It's part of the business model after all. Not so silly :)

Weekly highlights, recaps, BTS each week : You're not going to get a lot of sleep  !

You do embody that ridiculous city: absolute sleazeball behavior and proud of it. Lends you credibility on this topic, so I read with interest.

no i made about 100,000,000 there and lost 80 something % of it when the realestate market crashed and moved out, havent looked back.I hate Vegas, never did like it, but I made it work for me and I used it for what it was good for. I got a PHD in Vegas culture, gambling, the good old days of Vegas , a R/E Brokers license (now expired). I learned everything i could about it, Had monster inside juice with the City govt paid bribe $$$ oh yeah i'll talk now its been long enough ago that its ok, wont name names. I left unscathed except the $80+ million that evaporated -casino's didnt get a dollar of my $$$, thats for suckers.

Yeah i'm proud of what I did, I did the shit most people see in movies, I lived it, while the rest trade hours for dollars. I didnt bang the whores myself, dont like them, dont do dope, never tried it, dont hardly drink, either. I just used a city for what it offered when it offered it to my advantage, thats Hustlin real Hustlin, big $$$, movie type shit. andI lived it for 20 years, and now i'm real real comfortable. Went to jail once for 3 hours on a computer bug, thats the only beef I caught, didnt lose my freedom or asset seizure to the govt or anyone else. Why? cause I played by the rules. Paid all my taxes didnt cheat the IRS, or any henkey jive biz like that. Suckers cheatthe IRS ask Westly Snipes how that worked out for him. LOL

Vegas is a disease, its a infection, and there was a time it was the best place there was to make $$, problem now is its lost its edge, there is gaming everywhere, so that diluted its edge. So I left. I straight pimped it out, WITHOUT falling for it and the tragedy it creates, i watched more people lose their marriages, homes, life savings, sanity there than I care to think about, all behind those pretty flashy lights. See I'm not the sucker, I'm the guy that played the suckers.

pimps up hoes down,

and no I didnt pimp girls, too much drama for me, LOL

+ a billion.

When Shane and Alex were playing a TAR match at the Riv years ago two out of the three days the seats were 50-70% empty. Only the final day when Alex made the comeback did it fill up. That was with 7000 people who paid to come to Vegas with the main focus being to play pool LITERALLY across the hall. If they wont walk twenty feet they aint getting in a cab.

People ask why our studio is so small. I tell them all the same thing:"The money is online. Why would we spend money on a big space that we cant fill ?"

But then what the hell do I know ? We keep hearing about all this gee whiz stuff no one else understands or knows about so I stand by to be amazed.

I learned that the hard way, remember my house ? duh? I threw a party once and got maybe 50 people, if I had that house in LA I could have had 2000 people easy(yes it was that big-JCIN knows this), point is I thought having that house I could over come the strip and that didnt work. a $60,000,000 (cost) house that's 11 minutes from Mandalay bay and I couldnt get 100 people over with a open bar for free. wow. I only lost $20,000,000 on that idea, well $30,000,000 cause I had to earn 30 to get the 20 afer tax's to blow on it, nice huh? one of the most expensive lessons of my life.
