Congrats John Schmidt

All right John!!!!!!!

Way to go John!!!!! Great that you were able to get the chance to come from behind and step off the top of the hill and take the prize!

Thank you to all at AZB who made it possible to see it happen "live" from Valley Forge. Unfortunately I was only able to be there Friday for a few hours and this made it a lot more tolerable.

Way to go John!

Once again, just like DCC, I wanted to bet on his opponent in the final but couldn't find ONE guy that wanted to bet on John. 500 people watching the stream and no one liked John.

So, I did the same as at the DCC One Pocket final and thought what the heck and put my money on John instead :D

Thanks John. I might have learnt now, and will start betting on you right away. Maybe people will offer me odds also :D

I totally agree with Jay about best American All Around. How does he play bankpool?

That was based on 64 players, but only 47 players in the field.

Can anyone recap the last rack? Who broke? Was it a B&R? How did the final rack go down?

The entire match was interesting. John broke dry on 6 racks, most of which he didn't get back to the table. Corey had 2 or 3 break & runs so John didn't shoot in at least 8 racks. But, Corey was off most of the match. He played a few bad safeties at the beginning of the match that gave John an early lead. Then after JOhn started breaking dry, Corey got to the hill first. At 12-10 Corey leading, John broke dry with a completely open rack. Corey missed a routine 1ball. John ran out and then Corey cratched on the next break giving John ball in hand and he brought it even to hill-hill. John breaks dry again and corey runs to the 5 and missed. John wins.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick rundown, I missed the finals.

What a class act. I was one of ten members here who staked him in the Open, He sent me my stake amount back even though it was more than my share. It's nice to see one of the good guys win it.

Congrats John...

Nothing better than a hill-hill match in the finals. Thanks to John and Corey for making it a fun afternoon and thanks to AZB for streaming it for us.

Yes a hugh thank you for AZB streaming...I love it!!!

You all have a great week!!!

In that last rack (I was watching the stream, wish I could've been there), Corey had a routine out, easy path from the 4 on the foot rail to the 5 sitting maybe a diamond off the long rail uptable, but went a bit too far and it looked like he had to cut the 5 with inside to go back across ... maybe it was skid as was said on another thread, or maybe he pulled off it a hair and threw it into the rail, maybe both, because it never got to the pocket.

Pretty average shot ... in fact, I was a little shocked when I saw Ignacio Chavez duck on about the same shot in a local tourney final a week ago.

Corey overran his position to get on that 5 and someone said it skidded but it looked like it just missed. I felt bad, he was down at one point 3 or 4 games and then came roaring back. John would play great when he got to the table but corey kept getting out and suddenly it was hill hill. Then when john got to the table on his first important shot he amped it overran position too. But john made his and on several shots played phenomenal shape, in some cases using paths people didn't predict. His speed control is just spooky. I never saw him take a bad shot or make a halfassed effort, and it's amazing to see someone shoot that good and almost lose. Corey of course didn't make any halfassed shots either and looked firmly in control except for that one crucial loss of position.

Also just as he was really rolling he got kicked into the corner on the break. But both players suffered a few of these. It's always the corner for some reason and it happens enough that corey will probably analyze the break to figure out if it's happening the same way each time and how to avoid it. He was breaking pretty well and not all that soft.

Those who saw the live stream (and even those who couldn't make it) should take a second to email thanks to those who made it possible:

ivan@simoniscloth.com; info@predatorgroup.com; corey@tigerproducts.com

And of course buy their goods :) They made 6 or 700 viewers very happy.

Kind of like a skid and he pulled to the side a little. As stated I am new to pool world. So take this observation lightly. Pool taking second place to my other hobby. I think both of these guys were class acts...Was it chilly in there or was it just me ? Did anyone find the host funny at all..Lol..He was ok though..

John "mudbug" Schmidt

 Last week John was in New Orleans and Jamie Farrell and I took him to eat some crawfish but he wouldn't suck the heads. Great shooting John, I've been saying for the past 5 years you are the best US
player, now maybe those sponsors will get wise and give you some help. :)

4 years ago, I told John he was the best all around player in the world - but that he just didn't know it yet. Many of us noticed his unlimited potential long before John did. I think he's starting to see it now.

That was the first time I'd seen John play and was quite impressed with the way he looked so relaxed and played with lots of confidence.

That win just validates John even more. Well done.
