CSI PRESENTS: US P[en One Pocket & US Open Straight Pool Championship

La Quinta: 860-623-3336

Quality Inn: 860-62-3944

Fairfield Inn: 860-627-8333

Double Tree Inn: 860-627-5171

Motel 6: 860-292-6200

There is also a Hampton Inn within 3/4 mile

More info upcoming..........

I prefer the Hampton or LaQuinta... the Fairfield is a walk out the door and through the parking lot. The Motel 6 is the cheapest, and for the weaker players its hourly... :)

I think Darren makes a great point.

Make it 600 entry, double the 1st place prize and probably still be
Able to pay 20 deep.

The prize scale could probably be given more thought.

10K 1st
5K 2
2.5K 3-4
1K 5-8
600 9-20

not enough time..

the top 16 seeded players should get the bye based on certain rankings etc

bull-shee-toe.

If you pay $350/600 to enter an event, and I pay $350/600 to enter the same event, my money should be as good as your money.

I have posted about these 'forced byes' tournaments at least 3 times here the last month. They are simply dumb.

Lou,
CSI has no plans to seed the one pocket. Never have.

It was decided for 48 players because of days involved - plus past field sizes. Plus time for the straight pool. First year- then we'll grow.

Thanks for everyone's support - and we'll see you there.

Thinking of playing the one pocket event. What is the break down of my dead money entry? How much goes to the prize fund and how much goes towards "registration fees". How much is the credit card fee and is there a late fee after a certain date? Thanks.

You better dress appropriately so ask about the dress code. :)

I won't be playing in either one of these events, but as a fan I'm super stoked especially for the Straight Pool. This will be the first U.S. Open 14.1 since like 2007 right? And it sounds like it will be a proper one at that. I'm sure Darren likes his chances in that event, and he should. Will be fun to see all of the best 14.1 players of this era duking it out for the title.

Yes, but better than no tournament at all, which is the case on the senior one pocket tournaments.

I like the idea of using seeding in these kinds of pool tournaments, especially with byes. If the top-seeded players get the byes, not only are the top players spread out, but the weaker players are more likely to play three matches instead of just two. They don't have to play a top pro in their first round, and if they lose their first round they won't play a top-seeded player in their second round either. I doubt CSI will do it, just because it invites more people to complain and accuse. But it would be the right thing and the smart thing to do.

I'd imagine going two and out isn't an issue given there will be a round robin stage. They may indeed seed the groups but that won't need to be the primary motive. ;)

From what I have read:

The One-Pocket is a standard double-elimination event with 16 byes in the first round.

The 14.1 is in two stages like the "World" events -- a round-robin stage (8 groups of 6) and then a single-elimination stage.

I'm sure you have to wear a tuxedo. That's no problem. Anything to look like a valet attendant.

Be a step up from your usual look.

Short notice for a major event. Will this be scheduled in advance in the future?

Yeah, Duane. I see these events conflict with a couple you have up at the Carom Room.
Too Bad for both events.

This event will probably be scheduled right after the SBE again for obvious reasons.
