Diamond Ten Ball Invitational

Jay has been helping me with many functions at the DCC for years.

From the One Pocket Challenge to the Fatboy Challenge.

He has been working for much less than he is worth in the past years.

And this year he really stepped up.

In the tradition of Bob Jewett and Fatboy.
(I know I better be careful because there are others not named at this time).

Anyway it was Jays idea for him to reach in his pocket and add $8,000 .

We had a little chuckle between ourselves as it wasn't long ago we were

discussing a salary raise for his help. Ha!

It was stated that his sponsorship would

be for this year only, but he would consider making it an annual

sponsorship as He was snickering and wanted to make sure he wasn't

having a senior moment.

All I can say is Jay has been a blessing to the DCC and pool in general.

There are many people who have helped make the DCC what it

is today and I'm sorry I haven't thanked them as much as I should

have.

Thanks to you as well. Greg!

ps...I want a bank re-match from the whooping you laid on me at Michael's in Fairfield!

Hope you like mine..

Cheers and Merry Christmas

The Quintessential 10 Ball Open

(in years to come you can simply call it and it will be known as 'The Q' .....not to be confused with your cue :) )

by definition:

quin·tes·sen·tial/ˌkwɪn təˈsɛn ʃəl/ Show Spelled [kwin-tuh-sen-shuh l] Show IPA
adjective
1. of the pure and essential essence of something

2. of or pertaining to the most perfect embodiment of something

most typically representative of a quality, state, etc; perfect

Here's an idea I had:

The Quintessential 10 Ball Invitation

joking Watchez.

You can he this one too..

Remember, it's not an open ... it's an invite only...

Some damn good names here. This is gonna be tough. An update for our player list. Oscar Dominguez is out and Jeremy Jones is in, as well as Shaun Wilkie.

Open....Invitational.... whatever word fits. But when a player states they want to play and then play, seems kind of Open to me.

There is the US Open in golf ---- but yes, you have to be invited to play or Earl could think he could walk on and tee off on the first hole.

Same here, I won't just let anyone enter this event. They must be a "qualified" player, and by that have some record of success against other good players. For instance I couldn't play!

I am more interested in this event than any other at dcc. This is what pool is about, 1000 dollar entry fee, 10 foot tables with long races. The best should rise to the top in this event. This is what pool needs, more BIG money events.

Jay,

Thanks for all of your ongoing work for this big event.

Regarding a moniker for the event, apply the K-I-S-S approach, something easy to say, easy to remember, like:

............Derby Gold .......

I like the ring of saying someone won the Derby Gold last year, or that someone is planning to play in the Derby Gold next year. I also like the event title to be linked to the Derby City Classic name in some fashion.

The winner each year could be presented a gold ring as well as funds for winning the event, in the same spirit as a Super Bowl ring.

Will, maybe you can back me if I get the call to go to the Derby Long Stretch Invitational next year. ;)

There are or certainly use to be Qualifying tournaments for the US Open (Golf) all over the country- open to anyone. There is an 'invite list' also based on some formula or ranking.

The DCC Grinder 10ball - for its long sets and difficult playing conditions

Kinda a catchy name when shortened too - "you playing in the grinder event"

No, not just anyone; you have to have a handicap index of 1.4 or less to even play in a U.S. Open qualifier! In other words, you have to be darn good.

Jay, thanks for everything you do. You are an enduring credit to our sport.

Look forward to seeing you next month at the Derby.
