Dropping out of TAR and Best of the West.

Thanks for your words of support we appreciate them. This was just an occasion where everything that could go wrong did. In hindsight we probably should have just canceled the whole match and took the hit.

We learn something new with each event and this one taught us some things that we thought we had figured out already. One thing that continues to amaze us is the level of support from people like yourself and all of the supporters of The Action Report who understand that we are going to screw up now and then. We will use these lessons going forward to make a better product.

IMO, TAR is the best thing going on in pool right now. It's just a few bumps in the road - it will result in having more experience in what you do, and in the end you will learn and grow from it. Keep moving in the same direction with the same motivation. Everybody that I know is extremely appreciative of the matches you guys have provided us with over the past year. Just learn from this and move forward.

I used to do a lot of reporting, recording of proceedings I guess you'd say.

I'd have to lug my heavy equipment to each venue, get there an hour ahead of time to set it up, and then wait for the festivities to begin.

I cannot tell you how many times things have gone wrong, and sometimes the recording party has to do things on the fly. Sometimes they work; sometimes they don't.

The only thing one can do is to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. It ain't a perfect world out there.

I think TAR does just fine, especially in the pool environment. I cannot imagnie how difficult it must be to get good audio and video in a pool room. I can't stand it if somebody crackles a Twinkies wrapper in my courtroom, ruining my recording of the proceedings.

When it comes to business, I learned a long time ago that it isn't a good thing to pay attention to what other people say. I have always trusted my own instincts when it comes to my expertise, and 99 out of 100 times, I've been right. Before TAR, the pool viewing arena on the Internet was scarce. Today, it is blossoming into a new industry. TAR's innovative idea has created a new market, and they will always be the pioneers.

Much like Pat Fleming and Accu-Stats has been to pool tournaments, TAR is to the action.

Its seems that some people had there opinion of me and why I dropped out of these two thing. The truth of why I pulled out of the Best of the West was because I was NEVER in the Best of the west. I was told while I was in LA just to show up and I might be able to play If the alternates didn't show up. That was ok with me I had no problem that and made other plans before he decided to put my name on the flyer.
The TAR match with Bartrum. Wow only if you knew. I noticed things weren't going well before for the match and they fell apart big time an hour before. 3500 got stolen from our room while we I was at the poolhall. The people I was with check into the room, put the bags into the room and came back an got me. Woke up the next day and the money was gone. They tested the door and only two times that the door had been opened was by my partner (at the time) and his bother with the only two keys. This started to get FISHY when all my shit was searched and hour before I had to play. Then I was told they were backing out of the set. My mind was out if it. But that is what happened. Making me look bad was the only thing that happened those two days. I will play chris soon with people AROUND me that I can trust. Next time don't jump to conclusions.

The simple solution is you should never have had $3500 sitting around in the room. Most hotels have safety deposit boxes...

Hey Mike, Chris wanted me to let you know, once you find some people that "you can trust," and you round up 10k or more, let him know. He would love to give you a rematch. You were obviously under alot of undue stress and pressure and it might have affected the way you played. He just wants to be able to match up with you when you are playing your very, very best. I'll even put my own two cents in and say, we don't even have to film it, as I am sure that put added pressure on you and you only to perform under the lights.

I was thinking that iin the future the stake horses in these matches should send the money to TAR... They are obvious stand up people.. If they are going to bet it any way, they should just let them hold the money for there buisness reasons.. That way they can advertise with all the trust in what they say..

Tar made the right calls all the way down the line. 2% of the people will always complain, have no idea the decissions buissnesses have to make under pressure. FOLLOW YOUR GUT IT'SBEEN RIGHT SO FAR. Invariably the complainers are the ones who follow the leader and never have the nerve to try something new on there own, but are quick to criticise others. This thing is on a learning curve but has been the most exciteing to happen to pool in years and deffinately puts some fun back into the sport.

If I'm your backer and it was my cheese you'd stand good for it because you brought the malletheads to the party. As far as I'm concerned your recoarse is with them.

And to take this one step further........ at the risk of being "Mr Obvious (or Mr. Late to the Party)" . Is it possible that this was an inside job meant to look like an inside job? Was the $ stolen from the room given to the player from the stake horse to hold? Or was the $ stolen the actual players money? It makes a big difference as far as who I might look upon as a possible suspect. Just some thoughts.

The other day at my bank, I deposited $3,200 (cash & checks) and had to show my ID. Then the teller had to get her supervisor to sign off as approval. I questioned why as anyone can freely deposit into my account. The teller explained that it was due to the large amount (I guess $3,200 is now considered large) and that was their policy. I asked what the limit was before the approval needed but she wouldn't tell me.

The limit is $2,500. They keep a record of it for 24 hours only. But if you withdraw or deposit a total of $10,000 or more in a 24 hour period, the info is sent to the IRS. I've had to cash in over $10,000 in chips more than once at casinos. I will cash out maybe $7,500 one day and come back a couple of days later to cash out another $7,500. If you win big money in a poker tournament, it doesn't matter if you ask for all cash. They already got your I.D. and Social Security number before you got paid. It will be reported to the IRS and you better declare it on your taxes.

If anyone from the IRS sees this post, I can (and have) show them losses against winnings. No big deal.

Believe me inside jobs happen. I was ripped off at a Hotel by an employee who was fired the day before. He had a master Ving card got into the room and stole $50 while I slept.

Nobody on the room is much easier.

First of all, let me say thanks to Justin and Chad for their efforts. The Bartam/Dechaine match certainly had it's pre-match drama (understatment of the decade...). I have been fortunate to see several of their "productions" live. And to everyone in internet land, they make it look easy. Until you see them unload gear for 2 hours, spend another 2 hours setting it up, and another 2 hours dialing it in, you really cant appreciate what they do. The word production is key here. The positive from the Bartram/Dechaine saga is that the show went on! I felt at the time TAR was very generous in offering a refund to the current PPV customers. But, it is obvious that they take their "business" very serious and did not want anyone to feel slighted due to the change in the match. I again tip my hat.

They have definitely made GREAT strides in their production and pre-production format. And I think they certainly had a learning experiece from this event. We love 'em here in KC. And I'm sure their next event will be smoother.

The money issue....

Why would anybody leave 3500 in a motel room, free for somebody to steal? Where was the exact location? In the future, if the matches are held at Duff's, would he be willing to keep the money in a safe at the pool room or something? These are just a few questions that come to my mind while I read this.

Quite simply it comes down to this. A teenager made a mistake in judgment by by leaving some money in a room because he didn't want have the whole roll on him in case something happened. He thought he was being prudent. I dare any one you to tell me that you made every decision correctly when you were a kid.

The bottom line is that the owner of the money never lost a dime. The money was made good to him.
