Earl, Earl, Earl

He played well and they both had trouble with that pocket. Its hard to win when everyone is hoping you self destruct and it was a good match...there both great champions

He needed to take an Archer moment(s) and then shoot. Too bad, was rooting for the guy.

Most of us were rooting for him, that pocket is extra tight, needed to hit it a little softer, like Mika did.

He hit it bad........

Dogged the CHEESE

Hit it too hard and into the point.

If he hit it pocket speed it would have fallen in.

I feel bad for him, he played good.

I was sitting front row with my wife through the whole match and saw that debacle with my own eyes. Earl just hit it bad. even if he hit it pocket speed im not 100% sure it wouldve gone. Earl just dogged it for the cheese.

the match wasn't over

The match wasn't over when Earl missed the shot. The balls were laying where it was a fairly tough cut into the same pocket for all the marbles or I think the bank shot might have been easier. We learned that OB Cues does a good job on the glue up of their splices when Earl whacked the ball but that was premature. I think Francisco would have made it but he did set the shot up afterwards and miss so who knows?

I was happy to see Earl calm and showcasing his still very impressive skills until the very end of the match. I have to admit that what I will remember most is that he quit before the dealing was done.

Earl conceding like that really p*ssed me off. As Hu mentioned, that shot was far from a gimme. I've always taken Earl's poor demeanor with a grain of salt and loved him anyway, but giving up like that is unacceptable.

His over-emotional reactions to things cost him again. It all stems from ego. It was ego that caused him to miss the shot.. not taking time to be careful, even with his huge amount of tournament experience, is all about ego thinking it doesn't have to take time, this shot is easy. And, it was ego that reached out and pulled the plug.

Strickland Vs Bustamante

It was hill hill and Earl dogged the 10 for the match. Goto ustream and the insidepoolmag channel

Sounds like another Earl "moment." If only he could keep his emotions in check. I noticed him practicing while I was there, and when I watched him play against Efren he still had that same fluid stroke. The one big difference in his game from before is that now he misses more balls, plain and simple. That is the bottom line in pool!

When the score was 8-6 in favor of Busty, Earl went into (the now all too familiar) give-up mode. Rushing to the table when it was his shot, taking about 2 seconds and firing the balls at warp speed. Only when Busty made two or three mistakes did Earl try to recover and get back in the match. He made it to the ten ball on the hill-hill game, and a little voice whispered, "Earl, you don't deserve it."

I've always been a fan, and continue to hope he will overcome his problems, but that hope is getting dimmer.

Hu,

Thanks for the confidence in our equipment, but I have to correct you. Earl does not play with our cue shafts.

A couple of years ago, Earl did start using a heavily modified OB-1 cue shaft. Mike Gulyassy fixed them up for Earl, and he played great with them. He even asked us to sponsor him at the time. Unfortunately, Earls antics and demeanor are not quite what we choose to put our name on so we had to decline. I would love to see Earl gain back the respect that his game had acquired him long ago, but his actions have lost for him now. If he were able to do that, I might consider the request again. Earl is a great player with tremendous talent. I hope he gets the rest back together soon.

I just watched the shot a couple times, and I don't feel that Earl dogged it.

He hit it with only a medium pace, and it looked like the pocket should have accepted it but did not.

After the match he set up the same shot and hit it with a slow pace and the pocket accepted it but it almost looked like it didn't want to.

I watched part of the Nevel/Archer match earlier and Nevel got burned by the same pocket so many times, it looked like he was about to go postal :P

dog it

Yes i to feel for him, as i am sure if you have played this game long enough you have done the same.i know i have several times. he is only half human at the moment!!
