Earl gave a great interview after he played Shane. He was honest about his play, Complemented Shane-explained why he won, he said it was years of experience(I agree). He said he "Knew what he was doing when he set this up". And he was right, they put 860 on the bed 760 on the rails etc.

Shane had huge balls to step up and play, props to him. But the lession is "Dont play another mans game". That was Earls & Company plan,


I really respect earls interview, and props to Shane for stepping up. I hope that there are more games on this table, Both Earl and Shane said the slates are a little funny, the box needs more work. And Mike and Mike are gonna do it again, I would love to see Alex or Darren play. Earl was right "That table will slow anyone down". Earl is brutal when he is playing but he does give class interviews. I have awalys liked Earl despite his temper when he plays(I dont like that, but thats Earl). I met him in a elevator in 86 and he has awalys been nice to me since-I dont know him well. But it was a cool event, thanks to Runout Media, JCIN, Nathen, and Crew.


Congrate to Earl, I'm 44, he is 49 so I still feel like I have a big chance to improve my game, thats huge for me.


And SVB if you read this you gave him hell and showed huge heart buddy.

Well said Fatboy.....I do believe that 10 fter's are the future of pool....what a great equializer though for being young and ballsy vs. experience!!!

Earl's gracious in victory, equally not so gracious in defeat. It's almost a relief to see him close it out, you feel like the guy's gonna stick his head in an oven if he somehow dropped it and lost.

The interview shed some light on some things. I didn't expect shane to just openly admit "I can't beat him on this table, probably nobody can". Shane sure isn't one to make excuses or say stuff like "I gave that to him" or "if I had my break working it woulda turned out differently". Shane did mention the mild gaffy-ness of the table and for sure if you're gonna have a big table, the pockets should be right. That was interesting about the slate too. You couldn't roll balls in cuz of the slate, but you couldn't fire them in because of the pockets. Earl found the sweet spot in between.

I love the rules taking the luck factor 'almost' out of it. It's pool at it's finest.

It's just what Earl needed.....you think it won't boost his confidence level?

And about the "Dont play another mans game"....Earl realizes it, and really don't want Shane on a 9 ft table. (who does)

That interview was strong, moral of the story is Earl was right about 10 footers being awesome to see matches on and really making people want to watch pool. Winner and Loser who cares, Diamond needs to make a 10 footer with a heated bed and 6 legs and with some pro cut pockets and a one piece slate for the rematch. Oh yes I think there will be a rematch at some point.
 
This can only help the Earl vs. Archer matchup. Earl will be pumped, both will be miked. It should be very entertaining.

There's a lot to take in from this match. From Historical to Hysterical...

One thing I took away... In the post match interview, the part Rick references above...

Both warriors here have a ton of respect for each's game.

that line inspired me to write this thread, but Earl was right.

It was a great match, Earl has never lost his ability to play, you aould have to chop off his arms for that to happen, Earl has got in his own way a few times, and I have compassion for that because its a chemical imbalance in his brain, i'm not being insulting, with proper treatment he is fine. Also after 30 + years I understand how and why he gets frustrated. I seen the behind the scenes of long time pool players-who depend on winning/playing pool for a living, it aint their hobby, they get burned out. Hell I act out like Earl sometimes, and I dont need to win to eat. So I dont care what anyone thinks or says having compassion for his difficulties isnt wrong. I dont condone what he has done or support it when he acts up, I feel bad for him. I like Earl-awalys have awalys will. He has treated me good everytime we spoke.

as far as all the gadgets, I think its cool, do what ya gotta do to win. And its fun to see what he comes with next. How the hell he dosent get tired with that weight on his arm is beyond me, I felt the thing once its HEAVY, after 30 minutes my arm would go limp. LOL

I liked the event, I especially like how cool Justin was when he opened the doors to anyone to watch on the stream. But not because he opened it I was paid day one and on day three had no trouble at all.

He said "I'll pay people back for the last day if they paid up already." That is honest right there. I feel like my 25 bucks went to a good cause so...I'm cool with them making it free for everyone else.

Secondly, Congratulations Earl.
 
EArl did give a good interview, after he won. The thing is, there has always been "2 Earls". Away from the table, Earl can hold court with the best of em. he can be conversational and engaging. On the table, in the heat of battle? IMO, Earl can be bat chit crazy.

First off, How you doin buddy. Been a whle since I talked to you. You should give me a call and we can go shooting like we've been planning forever!!!!

Now on the above comment. I agree. I think a lot of people thought that it wouldn't be as hard as it was to overcome the advantage that Earl had due to the conditions because of how Shane was able to overcome the game with Donny on his home table with the rack your own nineball.

After that, people were like, damn Shane can beat the nuts... so they didn't even think about it for this.

Now, I also think if Shane could've ever gotten a decent lead that it would've ended completely differently.

In a lot of ways I'm a lot like Earl. I am still respectful to my opponent (but sometimes disrespectful to myself) but if I"m in the lead, I have no problem staying on my game, but get me behind and I have a tendency to implode mentally.

I usually will always bet on SVB when he's playing but this time I didn't bet any money and bet a few V dollars on Earl. I just thought that people were underestimating one of the best players of all time on conditions specifically tailored to his game.

I wasn't able to watch ( I forgot all about it) but from what I've seen in the past the crowds at Earl's matches tend to instigate #hit in the hopes of setting him off.

As far as the comment on wishing to be deaf like Shane. I would have to hear it myself to know the context that it's in. I know that I'll wear ear plugs to help block distractions and it IS an advantage in playing pool. Would I truly wish it on myself or anyone else? Hell no, and I would never say it to SVB or any other hearing impaired person except if they were my friend and never in the middle of a match with them.

I have had a good friend in the past that was hearing impaired and beat the $hit out of someone for making fun of him; however, again I would need to see the context to know what the intent of the comment was before passing judgement.

Anyways congrats to Earl, I hope he'll have the balls to step up and play Shane under conditions of Shane's choosing now that Shane has stepped up to Earl's conditions.

Diamond should make a 10 footer with at least three setup options - billiards, snooker, pool.

Earl' eyes are obviously still razor sharp. Like a lot of very talented pool players I've met in my life he seems to be unsettled as to which side of sanity he's on - moment to moment. He is still a GREAT player. As is Shane.

Eric...I have been saying this for years and years. Once somebody gets to that "elite" level of play, you just don't "forget how to play". Lots of people have talked big about Earl being 'washed up' (or too old), and many of us (me included) have called BS on that. Earl still has the skill on the table to win another world title. Whether he has the mental control is the only question. Like you, I believe he could benefit from some supervised medication. Often people are reticent to accept that they have any kind of "condition" that requires medical supervision. JMO

mikeyfrost...I feel certain that Greg, Chad, and Mark would happily accept your "investment" dollars, to allow them to 'redo' their manufacturing process, to allow for a "10 footer with a heated bed and 6 legs and with some pro cut pockets and a one piece slate"! Just step up son! :D

One relatively new problem that Earl is going to have to deal with is his eyes are getting weaker (presbyopia). He even said so himself in the pre-match interview yesterday that he can't see that well up close and he needs reading glasses.

During his match with Shane yesterday, I noticed that he misplayed at least two very easy shots because he couldn't see well up-close. One shot, for example, was a very easy stop-shot safety but the object ball didn't even hit the rail, for a foul.
 
Good interview..When we were watchin I told everyone that he really conducted this interview like an athlete..No diff then espn..Good shootin Earl..

760 is a faster cloth...

A bigger table helps to have faster cloth on the rails, of course I don't know why they wouldn't just put 760 on the whole table though.... :cool:
