Emily Duddy VS Ine Helvik match Amway Cup March 2013

Really? You're JUST now discovering that the pool world is full of Arrogant, Pompous Assholes???

Oh wow, the acronym for that would be ..............APA!!!

Maniac (disclaimer: this being a tongue-in-cheek post)

I knew there was a reason I quit that!!

The whole "great player" term is something she attributed to herself in this post:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=4092028&postcount=1

"The player's that have been attacked the most in these forums are Myself (Emily Duddy), Borana Andoni, and Jennifer Barretta. The 3 of us are great players, we continue to put in the time in on our game, we compete non-stop putting in our own $, and give back to other players, leagues, and charities as much as possible. We also put ourselves out there to further pool. "

If you're going to call yourself great then you better back it up by playing great. Unfortunately, Emily doesn't. She plays average / slightly above average. She's is not Pro speed and definitely out-classed by a large percentage of the players playing in the Amway Cup - many of whom are at the world class level and a whole lot younger than Emily.

Concerning the video vs. Ine Helvik:

Was Ine injured? She reached for her shoulder numerous times after a shot.

Are you people actually watching the match objectively? Cause this is by no means a highlight reel of Emily playing great.

Emily indicated she's made a big jump in the last 6 months - Amway Cup was just last month wasn't it? Hmmm.

Emily won 10 total racks in the round robin stages at Amway. That's the 3rd lowest total for the entire event.

Great? Not even close.

Case closed. All the rest is just support, belief and hope.

Stay objective, folks.

The whole "Great player" thing is being taken entirely out of context.
This isn't muhammed ali saying "I'm the greatest, nobody can beat me".

Basically, she gets publicity pics taken, and immediately some insecure guys go out of their way
to portray her as a pretty face who can't play.
Or in some cases they go out of their way to say she's ugly and can't play.
She didn't even post the pics.

So of COURSE she feels defensive and feels obliged to say "look, I really CAN play."
That's where the "great" comment comes from.

And I know you remember and understand all this, you seem like a bright guy.
You have a choice to look at that context and take it for what it is,
"ok, she was set back on her heels when she said that,
and feels like she's getting random unwarranted criticism. So now she's trying to prove something."

But inexplicably, bafflingly, you choose to pretend she's a stuck up person who
completely overrates herself and needs a reality check.
I'll never understand that mindset. It's needless antagonism.

Needless antagonism? Did you read the original post in the other thread? Read it again and tell me she should get a free pass.

Dude, you have no clue what so ever. She never said look at me. She mentioned she has been working on her game, that she knows she gets out of rythm now and again, and she needs work on her pre shot routine. She was here looking for help and suggestions. Instead she got pompous limeys ragging on her cause she wore cool shoes

She did NOT proclaim herself to be a FANTASTIC shot. And you and the other haters have to stop comparing the men to the woman. Just because she might be a "b" player in a mens' tournament/leagues means nothing. She has to be judged with ONLY other woman players, and she plays right sporty. Is she in Alison Fisher territory, nope, most likely never will be, but who would ?? Can she hope to get better by competing against some of the best in the world? Yep.

She is out there doing what a lot of men dreamed they could do... hold their own against their peers in a pro tourney half way across the world.

Does that about sum it up ??

Not really, no.

Tis true she did not say she was a "FANTASTIC shot". She did say she's a great player, however.

Do you think she's a great player? You're an instructor - would you classify her as one? If she really has been playing for 11 years, I would advise against such self-aggrandizing ASAP.

And I'm not aware of a single limey on this thread that criticised her attire. Indeed, there were several moments on the video that I had to watch over a few times just to be sure I approved of what she was wearing. You know the ones. ;)

Well, lets go to the tape then.

You said this about Emily, and I quote;

Agreed. The gawkers and perverts in this thread who think that "Less is more!" are not interested in your professional career.

But then 2 seconds later say YOU this about Jeanette Lee';

She looks very stylish and professional...and hot too.

Yep, your consistency amazes us all...well played sir.

I'm afraid you're confusing me with someone else, old chap. That was PoolSharkAllen. Close!

Look, I'm not a hater nor am I a nit. Emily started this thread ASKING for us to critique her game according to a video link. Some of us (as per HER request) did just that. Some others simply wanted to talk about her attire/looks. If someone wants my opinion and wishes me to be brutally honest, then that's just whay they'll get.

Emily plays good. That said, there are 5-10 players in my regular poolhall alone that play better than her (all men). Every once in a while I see a woman there that plays about her speed. There are some in the area. I am talking about one single poolhall in one small city. There must literally be thousands of players in America alone that plays her speed. If we are only talking about women players, then it would be hundreds that plays her speed. I cannot with all honesty describe her as great without "watering-down" the many other women that are truly great players. She is good. She is dedicated and determined. She works hard at it as far as I can tell. But from the LIMITED amount of video (I've seen three different ones) I've watched, I know that she has a ways to go. I've described what I thought were her weaknesses in a previous post (this IS what she wanted, right?). I have no reason to believe that she won't improve some more. I have been playing seriously now for about 8 years and I am still improving somewhat.

Please don't label me a hater or a nit. I'm really a good guy and if you ever met me, we'd be friends. I'm just giving her what she said she wanted, and that is constructive criticism. I wish people would watch me and give me FREE advice (and Lord, give me the intelligence to know the good advice from the bad :o).

Post your video. You'll know it's good advice if you improve.

Maybe...

...she should work on her cue ball control.

Yeah. Even if this were a last minute change of plan, it was a really POOR choice. But I'd just chalk this up to really letting whitey get away from her. By A LOT.

Like I said earlier... Emily should spend less time walking around the table and taking looks from different angles, etc.. Stop worrying about looking the part and just PLAY the part.

Needless antagonism? Did you read the original post in the other thread? Read it again and tell me she should get a free pass.

OK. I'll say it again: yes, she should get a pass on calling herself a great player.

Y'all are getting serious tunnel vision on that single word, and using it to justify
pointless, meanspirited posts, like the one where some troll digs up footage of her getting skunked.

All this done under the guise "hey, I'm just being honest, and she started it by making wild claims!
She said great in the same sentence as her own name! How dare she! Burn the witch! Put her in her place!"

Again willfully ignoring the context... it's obvious she didn't say 'great' thinking she's
hot shit and can hang with Shane, but rather to defend herself (and other female players)
from the usual treatment they get on this forum.

Even now when she speaks with a humble tone, admits mistakes, admits the need for
improvement... we STILL have guys going out of their way to dump on her playing ability
with no constructive feedback.

Apparently some guys can't get through their day until they shit on a fellow human being.

What kind of treatment do women usually get on this forum??? I'm confused by this. Sarah Rousey was a regular here some time back. She often frequented the other forum too. Everyone treated her with a LOT of respect ...because she earned it! Because she had the game! Because she never tried to hype herself or market herself as something she wasn't.

If Allison, Karen, Jasmine, Kelly, Monica, etc., etc., etc. were posting here, they'd ALL be treated with respect. This has nothing to do with hating the women players or disrespecting them. Its more about someone who seems to care more about LOOKING the part than actually getting her game to that level. But if she truly DOES want feedback for the sake of improving, good for her! There is plenty of it here as well as in other threads. As for hurting her feelings or just "sh!tting on a fellow human being"... not so. People are just being honest. Even still, these are Emily's words from this very thread:

I am constantly seeking to learn and improve as a pool player, and however harsh some of the banter regarding my play may be at times, it often holds some truth. I am grateful to receive feedback that is positive or brutally honest because I choose to listen to the useful parts and stay emotionally neutral. I think every person should always strive to evolve and become stronger in all aspects of themselves. I'm not scared of the truth, i use it to my advantage.

Seems like SHE can get past the 'hating'. Why can't you???

Hey Creedo, I'll let you in on a secret. No matter how much you defend her, she still isn't going to sleep with you.

1. Lets put it this way, she wouldn't have to worry showing her ass off for the world to see if she had appropriate attire.

2. I think you are obsessed with gays, and probably you may be "in the closet." :D

Well Doc, lets examine the facts. I for one, fully support female players to wear mini skirts, and you are against it because she may "show" her arse to the world. And you think I'm in the closet.... Doc, you might need to heal thy self ;)

Look what it did for Jeanette Lee. We live in a culture where sex appeal sells. It's good for business, and it's good for pool. There is NOT one person at work that plays pool, but they know who Jeannette Lee is.... why is that exactly ??

Actually, I think that's a little harsh - I'd be drawing that ball back there all day long. Admittedly she probably didn't get into the CB enough to leave herself good on the next ball, but some players prefer follow and some prefer bottom.

C'est la vie.

There is no way in hell she wanted to get there, the angle is going away from the next ball which is on the short rail. You play a stop shot on the 5 or draw back a foot, and follow a bit on the 6 for the 7. Playing that with more draw or however she hit it to play the 6 in the side is really bad.

BTW, nice pictures whoever made that

I would have a couple questions to ask Emily

1: Single?
2: Drink?

3. Favorite breakfast meal?
4. Can I see the butterfly tattoo?

Hey RJ - you mentioned Alison Fisher, whom Emily is actually on a team with.
But I'm pretty sure you meant Allison Fischer, who would steadily whoop Emily's shapely arse. No big deal, just wanted to rib ya bro ;)

Agree on the pics, disagree on the rest. It's looks easy enough to draw it back to the middle of the table area *IF* you can cue a ball. You get no argument from me that she's not capable of hitting the ball good enough to do that, however.

The shot is makable - it's just she can't make it. Either way, it's her choice and besides, the outcome is better than being stuck on the side cushion with the stop shot, or behind the 9 with the two rail run-through. Judging by where the CB ended up, there must've been a slightly unfavourable angle, making it a harder shot than it appears on that caption.

My point is, there are many more worse positional shots than that one!

Agreed. Draw 4-5 inches and play the 6 in the corner with follow. It's practically straight in anyway. She even looks at that shot and points to the spot on the table she needs to get.

Playing for the side leaves waaaaaay too much room for error. If you short it, have to play the corner anyway and the CBs natural path is away from the 7. Go too far (like she did) and the CBs natural path is again away from the 7. All of this is a moot point though because she got where she did by mistake.
