Fake cue! Iam sorry even iam fooled

Just curious why you have it listed on your site still as a Mottey?

My guess is for the same reason Bill doesn't have the Guses up on the site. I think it takes Bill time to edit (or have someone do it for him) his website.

Surely you don't see it as somehow nefarious when Bill is coming to AZ and announcing that the cue is a fake?

Kevin

d) there;s no way this cue should have fooled someone that sells as many cues as you do Bill, there's absolutley 0 Mottey about it, more older DP than PM
I could be wrong but it looks like the cue has rounded points. It may just be me, or the pictures but I didnt think Paul made any cnc cues?

Not everyone in the cue buying world comes to this site before they buy cues. I am not saying that if someone wanted to buy it Bill wouldn't be a stand up guy about it. Just find it odd that he would not have taken it down or edited it before his post.

I could be wrong but if Bill is coming to AZ and announcing that he just learned that a cue on his site is a fake, the odds are pretty good that if someone tries to buy the cue he would be telling them the truth also. I just have trouble seeing it make much sense any other way.

Bill is slow getting his new cues up (which is why he announces them here) and I'm betting its the same process for him to get them down (which is why he announced it as a fake here right?). My guess is that Bill uses someone else to maintain and edit his site or that in any case, adding or deleting cues for him is a bit of a process. Again, hence he announces cues here long before they make it to his site, and the same may be true of getting this cue down.

I just don't see how any of this can get spun in anyway way other than to be impressed with Bill's honesty.

Thanks

Kevin

Yes my site is maintained by someone else, and I wanted to let people know that there are counterfeits out there to beware of unscrupluious sellers, and the cue will have mottey sanded off,it will be told to my web company tomorrow.when they get in the office. And as for allowing me to be fooled. Many cue makers have done out of the norm type cues by either request or in trial just starting so I had no reason to doubt a signed cue

I am sorry this happened to you Bill. Thanks for being honest and forth coming and not passing it on to the next person.

Bill,

You handled this entire event with class and forthrightness, and your candor is appreciated. We all know that you will not be making money on this cue, nor will you be trying to buffalo someone who contacts you directly about the cue because it is still on your website for a short bit.

AAA+++ kudos to you on this one. And may you be bucks ahead in the long run for your honesty.

Take care,

Will Prout

Anyone have any idea's how a procedure to authenticate cues could be done. If I am buying a cue over $ 1,000, I would gladly pay a source to id the cue. Most cue makers are happy to take a look, but, I'm sure if they are receiving a number of calls or emails to id the same cue, that would be old to them in a hurry. I feel for anyone who gets ripped off but as several traders have mentioned, the person coming forward here stopped a chain of bad events getting worse.

Grassly got fooled
who doesn't
Grassly made it right
that is class

He and I entered a deal that was a big disappointment to him,but he never tried to blame me or even let me reverse the purchase

He eventually came out good and I was happy

I found out why high cue buyers like to buy from Bill

Bill ain't perfect but he tries to do the right thing
And I admire him for it

My take on it

We all like to talk and speculate and dramatize, some in small amounts, some in large. Point is Bill has competitors that would love to knock him down. This is a perfect example of why he stands strong... He never intended this and once it was discovered immediately corrected and apologized for it. I treasure his stepping up to the beating cage and taking it. I'd do business with him any day.

Just my take.

Bill, keep up the good work

Is not the 5/16x18 thread pin a dead giveaway? Personally I have been into cues for more than 20 years and it is extremely rare to see a 5/16x18 pin on a high end cue. Balabushka, Schon, Szamboti, Mottey, Scruggs, etc.... all use 5/16x14 and have done so for as long as I have been following cues. 5/16x18 has always been associated with the production cues such as Meucci, Huebler, and low-end overseas models.

Counterfeiting is rampant and the joke goes that there are more Balabuskas for sale than Mr. Balabuska ever made. And I am speaking not of the Adams Balabuska line. Personally I think I would at least file a police report for fraud and theft against the original seller.

I would agree with you except I believe that there is one exception to the 5/16x18 rule. That exception is GinaCue.

I understand. I think that my point is more that anyone who is familiar with cues and makers should be fairly cognizant of which pins are associated with which makers so as to be aware if red flags pop up.

Are all Gina cues made with 5/16x18 thread pins?

Agreed. Nothing about this cue looks Mottey-esque to me. Points... pin... signature... Nothing.
