I highly recommend he read a book called "Healing Back Pain" by John Sarno. Worth a read, particularly if you have exhausted most avenues.

Regards,

Doug

Has he been diagnosed with anything yet? Has he had MRI's? I have DDD and some other back problems. If he hasn't gone down this road already- tell him to avoid opiate pain medications if possible...they can destroy your life.

depends

Any medication can be abused and some are plain destructive at best. However the myths and fears of addiction kept me in far more pain than I had to be in for years. My doctor contends that if you truly need the medication it isn't addictive. So far he seems to be right and we have almost a twenty year history including trying me on drugs that can be highly addictive. Abusing drugs can destroy your life. Using them as they were meant to be used can be a great benefit which is why they are still out there in legal usage.

Mainline morphine bites for me though. Due to an intolerance of other painkillers, I am given morphine for a few days after every surgery. My withdrawal symptoms from just a few days mainlining morphine are nasty!

Fatboy,
I never met you, but I like you from reading your posts. You're my pool brother. Keep up the good fight. There are plenty of great days ahead for you. You'll have your share of tough times as well, we all do. But, your mind is what determines how you react. In pool, we have to show heart. Life is even more important!
Romans 8:28 is a promise from God. If you can trust and believe in Him, something good will eventually come out of this for you. In fact, that's starting to happen already. Read these posts here for you!
You're in my thoughts and prayers. PM me if I can help you in any way.

Virgin Island Professor,
I think it was the two at a time that has really worked him over.

Prayers sent your way Fatboy.

Remember.... abstinence. It shouldn't be hard for a pool player. :D :D

Good thoughts coming your way.

I also have back problems, cause me to stop playing for 12 years.
In 2003 my Chiropractor was on vacation and my back was really hurting, so I went to my sisters chiropractor and within a few days I was feeling much better, he was way better than my original guy. It turned out my hip was out of alignment.

I had an MRI last year and I had some herneation at the L2 and L3 and some Arthritus. He told me to take this stuff:

I take it everyday, and go for adjustments on my back every few months, and I can play pool again.:)

Fatboy

Get well soon my friend. I have never met you but I enjoy your post. Talk about back problems, I had a dear friend that was in a car wreck. Screwed her back up sumptin awful. She was a prostitute. Doctor said she would be alright as soon as she could get back on her back. :D
Humor is the best medicine my friend. I will also send my prayers your way. I hope you feel better soon.

Hey Fatboy!

Good luck with your back bud. Have you tried acupuncture? I'm usually not a alternative therapy person, but I know some people that swear by it.

Cheers!

Hey Fatboy, hope your back problems get fixed soon!! I've never met you either, but I too enjoy your posts around here. I wish you the best of rolls for a speedy recovery.

I hope somebody can figure out a way to help you. I fractured a vertebrae in my back a few years ago and I couldn't sleep more than a couple hours before the pain woke me up. I'm not trying to advertise them, but I bought a sleep number bed and that helped a LOT, I was able to get a good night's sleep and it finally healed up.

Our prayers go out to you Fatboy for a speedy and complete recovery.

Thanks for your interest in the site. Your contributions are very beneficial.

Best of luck with it fatboy.

Back pain can be some of the worst stuff out there. Even after surgery you can be out of commission for a while and it seems like the only meds that can touch the pain have some rough side effects (but as SA says don't suffer needlessly, use 'em if you can keep a handle on them).

My friend recently underwent surgery, and it's too early to say how it'll come out, but already he's happier and once the post-op pain is gone the relief will be tremendous. Don't put it off once you've got a good diagnosis.

As someone who suffers a fair amount of pain I can sympathise. Keep your chin up FB & make the best of the good days. Also, keep up with your great posts!
