first report from Galveston

The Saw...Wow, you listed a whole 7 names...out of hundreds, maybe thousands of American pro players, over the past 3 decades. You're certainly right about the Filapinos...they've been killing us for decades, and your reasoning is correct. That's why some Americans have gone to the PI, to get into action, trying to improve. But overall, my reasons are sound, regardless of what you think. If you look at the recent jumps in the Europeans and Chinese players, it can be directly traced to training and coaching. Oh...and btw, who is Siegel? Oh wait, you MEANT Sigel! LOL So I guess Tiger Woods using a coach EVERY WEEK has no value either, huh?

Sure, some of them may have a coach/trainer but what value does that really bring them in pool??? Want to know why the Fillipinos play so much better? It's not because of coaches/trainers, it's because they get in the grease and gamble with each other day in, day out. So it's action, not trainers, that make them excell.... Same with most of the Asian players. Did Johnny, Earl, Keither, Buddy, Lassiter, Siegel, Varner ever have a coach trainer? No!!! A coach/trainer gives a pro caliber player zero advantage over another and is most likely a hinderance if anything.

Scmidty has you pegged....

By now there must be a bracket somewhere for the one-pocket. Does anyone know where this is? Or at least a players list?

I would assume the brackets will be on INSIDE POOL website, however they are probably not completed right now.I tried to enter insidepoolmag.com and for some reason I was unable to.
Is anyone else having a problem with insidepoolmag.com?

I just tried it and explorer keeps shutting it down with a big
red X. A bunch of us had the same problem during DCC trying
to read their front page.

I have come to the conclusion that Joey A and the others are all in a topless bar in San Diego having a big joke on us. There is no tournament at all. :)

try inside pool mag .com

I don't know what you are trying to access. The homepage pulls up although there is no info on the event thus far that I can see.

just got off the phone with JoeyA and got a bit of a update.

They just had the calcutta for the 1p and he could only remember a few of the high bids and they are-

Scott F $900
Efren $600
JoeyA $10

The 1p tournament is slated to start at 6:30pm and he also told me they are setting the cameras up right now for the stream. We all know how streaming can be so if you don't see anything on tonight be sure to check back tomorrow.

just got off phone with my buddy Nick A from Houma...he's in the amateur event..said the amateur event had as many or more pros than the pro event..lol..Chris B Ronnie W Cliff Joiner are just a few notables...Told me my lil buddy Gary abood sold for $10 in the 1 poc calcutta...I know Scott & Efren can give him 3 balls but still..He don't play that bad of1 poc..lol.don't sound like it will be too big of calcutta with them kinda prices...Least he said Gary was feeling a lil better & stayed with them at the condo last night.

A little update

Just got a call from JoeyA. He won his first match in the one pocket and faces Oscar Dominguez at one PM tomorrow.

John Hendry lost his first match one pocket as did Gulfport Doc.

The live stream will start at one PM tomorrow, no idea what match will be featured.

My battery was dying on my cell and I was getting a lot of garbage on the line. Hopefully all of this info is accurate.

thx for update hu !

One Pocket matches start again at 10 AM tomorrow. I play at 1. Joey played good in his match. A pretty good player he was up against. 88 or 89 players total. A pretty strong field. Maybe a dozen top filipinos here. I got there late for the Calcutta but still got a piece of Ronnie Wiseman, Lee Van, Larry Nevel and Mitch Ellerman. 25-50% of each. Oh, and half myself

Quite a few players in the Amateur divisions too. Only 30 women in the pro 9-Ball. That was a little disappointing. Still a very strong field. Mostly favorable responses from people today. How they handle the prize money will tell the tale. A good distribution with money added will make everyone happy. If they do the right things here, this has the makings of another DCC. I would predict a 128 player One Pocket field in year two.

9 Ball Amateur

I just got word in from a friend in the 9ball amateur event.

He said they changed the rules on the fly to make all the top players in the amateur 9 ball go to 9 instead of 7. Several complained and they booted all of them. Final number in the 9ball amateur. 89 Players

What happened was that there were about ten or twelve known pros in the amateur 9-Ball. They really didn't belong in there. I won't put their names on here but you would recognize them all.

don't know how to call that

They defined amateur far too loosely. Whatever they did or didn't do next was going to be less than right. There are going to be some problems with this first event. Hopefully they learn from them and get better with every event as problems come up and are resolved.

They lost a LOT of players by opening up the field, myself included. If they had made the current stance back then instead, I would be playing right now!

This will be hard to erase from the credibility meter, imo.

Questions for Jay and Bigtruck-

Jay you speak as if the added money is defined. So are you saying that this is still an unknown? They have 90 players in the tourney and no one knows what the payouts are?

Also, how can they change the clarification of what an amateur is AFTER players traveled to get there. If they didn't think it thru and the advisors that post on this site didn't help them, oh well they should correct it next time but not now. To also change the race is very poor.

Glad to hear that they finally got the pool tables setup - that is definitely a good idea if you are wanting to have a pool tournament.
