Follow-up between Hal and Thingie (Joel)

Hi guys,

I have been asked by Thingie (Joel) to serve as a neutral party in the resolution of this matter. As most of you know, Hal recently bought a SW from Thingie, found a ding and a warp, and is now requesting a refund from Thingie. Thingie has asked Hal to ship the cue to me, and once I have confirmed receipt, Thingie will issue a refund to Hal. I will then also be taking pictures of the ding on the cue as well as the butt warp and posting them here. Subsequently, I will be taking the cue up to Ed Young in Chicago to ask his expert opinion regarding the damages on the cue and also request a re-finish to be done on the SW. The cue will NOT leave the USA.

Please note that this thread is meant to help salvage Thingie's reputation and is not intended to be a ground for flame wars. I will also only be posting events as they happen and pictures as I take them, and not my personal opinion in the matter. I have no personal interest in the sale of the cue and no say in Hal and Thingie's monetary transactions.

Thanks for reading and like everyone else, I hope that this situation will be resolved amicably.

Thingie has two choices:

1. Refund me a cash amount that we both agree on and I'll keep the cue.

2. Refund me $2050 (full refund minus the $50 already received) and I'll return the cue.

If we do what's suggested above, I could end up without a cue and cash for months. I'm not doing it. If he want's to salvage his reputation as a seller, he needs to do what's right and issue a full refund. Today.

Are you saying the butt of the cue is warped? If the butt is warped I don't see what good any kind of fixing will do. How could the seller not see the butt was warped ? How could you pay $2,000.00 for a cue sight unseen. We have a bridge here in Brooklyn I might be able to interest you in ......

I don't understand when Hal purchased the cue was a neutral member needed,if not. Why now is one needed ?

Did Hal pay before delivery or after? if he paid before just refund him his money and he will send the cue out ...

???????????????

I see it like cuejoy: In the begining Hal sent Thingie money for the cue. Now Hals got the cue and Thingie sends him money. If the cue was misrepresented non of this BS would be necessary so send Hal his money an every thing will work out fine. Hal is know to trick no one. Lets get the show on the road an everyone can forget about this deal that has gone
bad. This is begining to sound like a pain pool deal an that ain't a good thing.

yeah i think a full refund is what should be writen as an option, not 2050.00.

and as to that crack about buying this bridge in brooklyn, people on here do a lot of business that involve buying things after seeing pictures of the product. there's a lot of trust here, i myself have done thousands of dollars of business here. i don't think there's anyone here trying to screw anyone over

TRUST is IMPORTANT

IMO, Joel and Hal are both great guys! This is an unfortunate situation to be sure.

In Joel's defense, I recently purchased a Peter Ohman J/B from him.....it's GORGEOUS and better than I could have imagined by looking at the pics :) Yet, I have also had a couple of very positive dealings with Hal --so for my $$$ they are both GOOD GUYS to deal with here on AZ

So, that said, IMO I feel like the fair thing to do is for Joel to refund Hal 100% of his money. Hal should then ship the cue (at his expense -- as a gesture of good faith) to whoever Joel would like to have inspect the cue and, then Joel may have the cue refinished if he deems it necessary!? If an insurance claim needs to be filed then that would need to be addressed too!?

It's just my 3 cents folks and, I really do wish you both the BEST and hope you can resolve this unfortunate situation, post haste ;)

I'll ship the cue to Tim Buk Too or wherever; As long as I get my refund. And yes, I will pay for the shipping. He can trust me to send the cue. It aint like I'm going anywhere. I make about 25 posts a day.

Just to clarify:

Thingie told me before I paid for the cue that he would refund my money if I wasn't satisfied with the cue. Well guess what? I'm not satisfied.

This was on Sunday. The only other contact I've had with him was on Monday when he told me to ship the cue to Raemondo.

thingie said:
I will refund you as requested, minus shipping fees, which come up to $2000 as I have paid you for the ding repair (which has not been done).

However, I can only paypal you in a day's time. I have to speak to the original owner of the cue to release the money to me before I can pay you.

Hal,

We have done several transactions in the past and if you say it is white, I don't have to question it. Never a grey area in any of your transactions here, and I hope this works out for you ... AS IT SHOULD !!!

Thingie knows what should be done here, Let's all hope he moves forward and cuts out the bull of assigning an intermediate to handle his problems

True, somthing stinks here. No reason spoken of so far that these two would have a problem with this. To this point Thingie has had a good rep trading on here and so has HAL. Personally, i would not send 2K to Singapore. That alone was a leap of faith on Hal's part. Now it is time for Thingie to take one. I could drive to KY to get it back, but there it is just GONE. So, that being said, i guess that is why so many peolpe wont deal with purchased directly overseas.

The cue was clearly misrepresented, no body disputes that.

But wait....! Lets get a third party involved, someone Hal does not know or agreed to become involved with.

Thingy holds the money for an item he sold that was not quite exactly what Hal was told to hope for, and in the meantime we'll leave Hal "Holding the bag" so to speak.

Thingee is wrong for not sending the refund. The cue clearly is not as it was represented to be. Hal is unhappy and wants a refund. Thingee said before the sale he would refund. Thingee is done selling stuff if he does not follow through and do the right thing. There's no reason he should not trust Hal to send the cue back. I send money to people for stuff I buy on the net all the time. That's the way it's done and that's what's happening here.

Come on thingee... do the right thing!!

Hell I've even sold stuff and shipped it before I got the money. Aint that right Purdman?

The one mistake I made in this transaction was purchasing the cue from overseas. I will NEVER make that mistake again. And to think, I passed up that beautiful tulipwood SW with the cork handle just so I could buy this one. Geez.

Hal sent the full price before he had cue in hand, with the understanding that a full refund was going to happen if he was not satisfied.

Joel can do the same thing. And needs to do exactly that.

Sounds like a stall to me. Thingie said he would refund, but then said he has to get the money back from the original owner. Who know what the original owner is doing, but it looks like Thingie is stalling until he gets the money back, if ever. I bought a cue once from Singapore and insisted it go through Proficient's escrow, which it did without a hitch. Good luck, Hal. Hope it works out!

refund

I know neither person other than reading their posts here, but am certain the $ should be refunded immediately...what kind of a person would it take to not do the right thing? Two grand is a low price for one's integrity
