Didn't work.

However, the time has come that the horse is ready to leave the barn and run. After deliberations, it was decided that the long-awaited and prestigious Derby held each year in January may not have been the right venue for his return to the racetrack. For too many years, this thoroughbred was racing hell for leather at a lot of different track configurations.
A year-long-plus retreat was imperative in order for him to continue his racing career, which would allow the harmful substances, like Lasex, to get out of his system. If he had not taken time off, he most likely would have fallen over dead in the middle of a race. It was just plain ol' good horse sense to work on getting healthy as opposed to riding roughshod over someone, something the track rats may never understand.
In sum, don't underestimate this thoroughbred from California. Just like Seabiscuit running at Del Mar after his hiatus, the Earthquake will be back in full force, raring to go, and you heard it right here from the horse's mouth!
