Just read the front-page news on AzBilliards Main Page, and it looks as if Ronnie Wiseman, Corey Deuel, and Shane Van Boening are the three American players in the 8-ball tournaments in UAE.

There is quite a player roster here:

I have heard of some of the players, but there are quite a few whose names I am not familiar with.

Only one member from England, which is Daryl Peach, of course, since he is the current WPC champion.

Philippines has four representatives. I have never heard of the Elvis Calasang player before from Philippines. Does anybody have the rundown on him?

At any rate, it looks like a well-rounded field. I am tickled pink to see Ronnie Wiseman's name on the roster.

Doug Gordon, you better take some pictures for inquiring minds back home.:D

So, do you see a favorite in this player roster or maybe a dark horse of this event? USA, all the way, as they say! :p

Elvis Calasang wins his spot through a qualification tournament. You will find more HERE

Four Europeans, including Jasmin Ouschan and Dimitri Jungo win their spot through a qualification in Paris last month.

It will be another qualification for the World 8 Ball Pool Championship in Fujairah next 10 to 16 April.

Atta Girl Jen. Still as jingoistic as usual. Well we have good news for you - Jerry Forsyth will be there as the voice of Runout Radio, the Face of AZ-TV
and the lens of the WPA. So you should get all the info you seek.
My tip - Jianbo Fu

Very, very nice, Doug. With Jerry there, we are sure to get all the updates, pictures, and pool smut at the event. That is great news! :)

Jianbo Fu? Hmm, I will have to keep an eye on him and check out his progress in the tournament charts.

That is a GREAT player roster. This has all the makings of one fine event! I am looking forward to reading all about it. :)

You can always count on quality updates from Jerry Forsyth - IMO he is the hardest working man in pool -

I think this will be a great event - I'm kind of bummed that I don't see Darren Appleton's or Karl Boyes' name on the roster - this tournament needs some GWAPO and DYNAMITE -

Darren, (If you read this) was there a schedule conflict, or did it come down to World Ranking points or a qulaifier? Just curious.

Hey JAM, how are the cherry blossoms this year?

Hello David
Darren and Karl are only two of the 40+ hopefuls who take part in the qualifiers. The miss the first day because of Euro Tour committments. So do Marcus Chamat and Fabio Petroni.

I did not find any names from Australia.I thought that my friend david Reljic qualified to represent Australia.

Interesting you should ask. :p

The Cherry Blossom Festival starts today! They are in full bloom and quite beautiful, I might add. Thank goodness the rain and wind didn't ruin it this year.

Today, there is a kite-flying contest down on The Mall. I would love to go, but somehow I don't think I can drag my counterpart to go with me. :D

Jefferson Memorial, tourists, and cherry blossoms in full bloom shown below. :)

I am not sure if the player roster is set in stone yet, being that the qualifiers are being played still, I think.

It is quite remarkable how this event has grown each year. I remember it 5 or 6 years ago, and it was not this big.

I am glad to see pool have another high-profile event in the mix. It gets the competitive juices going, and that's a good thing.

USA, all the way, I say.

I like either Orcollo or Souquet to win. Dennis is hot right now and Ralf is THE MAN in Europe! My slightly darkhorses are Niels Feijen and Ching Wu. Except they ain't that dark. :)

For some reason I just don't like Shane in this spot.

Just tell him that the kite flying will be 7 furlongs and a mile & 40 and all on the turf............... with wagering encouraged.

( then....put on your prettiest hat and sunglasses and warm up the car ) :)

Im surprised that Efren being one of the great all time 8 ball champion isnt on this list. Hasnt he won the title a couple of times and come out on top money winner at the IPT.

I agree with Doug re Jianbo Fu who is a big talent and has to be a lively dark horse in this. The last time I was stupid enough to come out of pool retirement, in Shanghai a couple of years ago, I drew him in the second round and he kindly allowed me to sit in my seat and watch while he effortlessly broke and ran frame after frame of 8 ball. I wouldn't even have had the option of talking him off his game as his English was more or less non existent and my Chinese is so 'good' that the last time I tried to order sweet and sour chicken in Mandarin they brought me a bicycle pump and a newspaper:p :)

There are apparently 8 places in the 64 up for grabs in the qualifying tournaments to be held at the tourney venue in Fujairah UAE between 12/16 April, open to anyone who cares to turn up and it wouldn't be the first time that one of these late qualifiers have then gone a long way in the event proper, for example Joven Bustamente last year, so don't rule out the possibility of one or two names not yet on that list coming through.

I'm driving up from Abu Dhabi to play in The Ras Al Khaimah Open Golf Championship on 11/12 April in the neighbouring Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and am currently negotiating with "she who must be obeyed" to get permission to then stay on and nip over to Fujairah straight from there and stay for a few days as its too far for daily travel to/from Abu Dhabi. Doug has threatened to lend me a cue with a pedigree so that I have something of quality to lean on during the inevitable humiliation if I am stupid enough to come out of retirement while there.

There are others much better placed to give advice regarding the actual event (I've never before been to this years qualifying tourney venue myself, it's not the same place as the actual finals venue for the last 64) but I do know that the local organiser Mr Ahmed is a very amiable and nice guy. Anyone planning to visit UAE who might need any advance advice about the country/airports etc in general etc before or after arriving or who would feel more comfortable if they had a contact number while visiting these foreign parts please feel free to PM and I will give my e mail address and mobile number.

I'm with you Darren. You are a far superior Eight Ball player to over half this players in this field. Come to Phoenix in late April and then play In Vegas in May, if you can Charile to let you in. He says there is a waiting list.

Uae

Taliking to Shane 8-ball is his favorite game but he seems to dominate in the rotation games, I wish him the best of luck in the tournament and he has the game to beat anybody in the world right now...

During the tournament, there are supposed to be live updates at:

http://www.wpa-tour.com/

The list of players is also there, but not with as much info as the one JAM found.
