Gold Crown time capsule - part 1

Table is complete. Not bad looking for a 46 yr old table. Still need to get a light, hang the wall racks and put the second set of chair together.

Jack does do very good work and has learned his trade very well. He's one of the best students I've ever worked with, and for sure one of the fastest learners I've ever shown some of my trade secrets to, he did a great job with your table.

XIANMACX,
It was a pleasure installing this table for you. Easily the nicest Gold Crown I've ever seen! Not a scratch or ding to be found on the Formica rail tops, which is very rare especially for a table of that age. Castings and aprons were also immaculate.

REALKINGCOBRA,
Thanks for the kind words and training you've given me over the years. Much appreciated, sir.

QADDICTION,
Thanks as always for helping with the install. Couldn't do it without you!

Great restoration and install. Table looks brand new.

May I ask, what are the size of the room you have the table in? It looks like you have plenty of room around the table for play.

Ian;

Your table, racks, and chairs are all superb.

Son of a gun, it is gold and not tangerine. My eyeballs are getting a little fuzzy, I believe. :o

And to your mechanic, Mr. Zimmerman, what a great looking job you did. Your comment about the formica not even having one blemish supports what a fantastic table this is. I have a similar setup but my formica has the telltale signs from mechanic's hammers missing their mark when trying to set the feather strips. In your opinion, was this the very first recloth for this table?

Ian, now it's time to enjoy!

best,
brian kc

I'd get incandescent lighting, easier on the eyes. I would of LOVED to have seen the slate frame sides up close when you removed the FIRST set of nails that held the first set of Cloth on the table. I would also have saved the cloth and used it for Something, like shelving or the backing of a cue wall rack. That table looks like the ones we played on in the Midwest Collegiate Finals at IU 69-70 the skirting/acrylic was the same, with orange cloth next to the bowling alley ball racks, and poor lighting.

The room is about 25 x 15. Plenty of room on the ends and just enough on the sides.

Brian,

Yes is was the first recovery. It was installed in '69 new and touched very little since. If you look at some of the first pics, you can see the original tacks that were used to attach the cloth to the slate.

Ian, those pictures are like porn for Pool Players, especially ones who appreciate vintage gear . Thank you for sharing them.

It would seem all the very kind and selfless help you gave me in my odyssey for a home table has come back to you in karmic spades (as well it should) with what has to be one of thee most gorgeous tables and home rooms I have ever seen. I'm very happy for you. Enjoy!!!! -S

Absolutely spectacular, you did a great job!!!!! I love those tables. How about directions so we can stop over and try it out with you??

I am fairly certain that I don't like you very much......

But, I love the table!!!

Scott <<== kidding about the first statement

GC2S were in production from 72'-74 GC1S ran from 61'-72' and all the changes that came out on the 2's, came out on the 1's first, including the adjustable leg levelers which came out around 63'.

I had a GC1 10-foot snooker table that had slates dated in 1959. Is that unusual?

Table

Is possible to get a new table today with 30 day or many year old mined slates, the slates are well seasoned in storage.
The GC 1 was made from 1961-1974 and the GC 2 was made from 1974-1976.

for all the hullabalu I hear about the diamonds I'll bet 50 years from now there won't be any restorations that look as good as this one or will play as well either.
