Help ID this old cue? Cortland wrap, etc.

Any ideas on who made this? It looks to be 20 or more years old.
It is 58" with 8"+ points that end within 3'' of the joint collar. Joint collar is black phenolic with what looks like ebony & maple slotted ring. Veneers are maple, green, blue, and purple. Joint is .840, A-Joint is 1.05, and Delrin buttcap is 1.29 with a beveled end. Cue has a 5/16x14 piloted pin, ivory capped ferrule, Cortland wrap and a black bumper secured by an allen head screw.

Maybe a Schon, at some point I think the buttcap was replaced which took the name off.

Sorry I can't identify this cue but I believe the wrap was known as a shag wrap, it was popular in the early 70's. It was usually orange or a avocado green. Sorry I couldn't resist. Cool looking veneers.

Sorry- it isn't a "guess the cuemaker" for my own amusement.
The writing on the shaft was not done by the cuemaker.

There's a good shot it's a Szamboti. The points look a little too long to be Schon. Keep your fingers crossed! There's a $4000 or $5000 gap between a Szamboti and a Schon.

This looks pretty close to being the same one - check the veneer colors:

Like Joe says, definitely worth a look at by Barry.

If it were a Schon, it would have a changed out buttcap - but look at the difference in the gap between the joint of the Schon R-6 and the end of the points - much more than the sub 3" on this cue:

I would guess it could be a Szamboti. Take what is left of the wrap off and see if there are any markings. Cue makers often write stuff under the wrap.

The outside veneer looks like GUS'S black veneer (they turned purplish with time) from the mid 70's. There's a chance...

My second choice would be JOSS, but, the points are a little too tall and the veneers a touch too tight.

Ok, what does it say on the shaft? That information could be helpful, and canyou remove the bumper and take a photo of the bottom of the cue and the weight bolt?

I would guess it could be a Szamboti. Take what is left of the wrap off and see if there are any markings. Cue makers often write stuff under the wrap.

Macguy knows his stuff, but hold off on removing the wrap. This is also a Szamboti identification thing, he wrapped the cue in the opposite direction of most makers - at least that's what Barry told me.

The dashed rings on my Schon are off center like this one, but on my R series cues the points are exactly 3" from the bottom of the ring. So my guess is all R's were made to have a 3" gap, whereas your cue looks to be in the 2.5-2.75" range.

My guess on this cue would be a Gus also. I would send it to Barry. If it's not a Gus, all you're out is $50 in shipping...

You must have had a RARE one if yours were centered!I just pulled my R6 the points are 3" from the bottom of the collar,where yours is 2 3/4"!Ron
